Do we have the worst under 25 in the Comp?

We are just very poor at trading, we trade out qaulity players for peanuts. We then trade in b grade players and pay overs. Even our drafting is poor. Cant remember our last draft success outside of father son picks or academy

Out trading has been fine overall. Hill, Cameron, Mitchell, Lipinski, Howe, Crisp, Hoskin Elliott all picked up via trades, all good contributors and all picked up at a reasonable price

Of course there have been mistakes, getting Beams back was a disaster, we overpaid for Schultz (surely now we have learnt our lesson about trading future firsts?) but on the whole trading has been above average.

We have big gaps on our list because of our drafting from 2015 - 2020. These players are now 22-27 and should make up the core of your team

these are our pickups

2015: Sier, Phillips, Wills, Crocker
2016: McLarty, C. Brown, Kirby, J. Daicos
2017: Stephenson, Murphy, T. Brown
2018: Quaynor, Kelly, Bosenavulagi
2019: Rantall, Bianco, Ruscoe
2020: Henry, Macrae, McInnes, Poulter, McMahon, McCreery

We have 5 players remaining from those 6 national drafts and there are big question marks over Macrae and McInnes. A very poor strike rate

As i posted in the list management thread, our list managers have their work cut out to fix up the age profile of the list while dealing with a number of retirements over the next few years

That's the reality of our recruiting. I wouldn't be against getting rid of Hine and trying someone different. I know he hasn't had access to high picks but you have to do better than that.

I'll answer this question with a couple of questions.

We knew that aiming for a flag meant that the average age of the playing group would be high. We kept Sidey, Pendles, & Howe on the list and they helped deliver the ultimate.

Was it unreasonable to keep the same group together and to trade draft picks for another crack at it in '24?

If other clubs in the comp had the same opportunity, would they do anything differently?

We can't be questioning the club's list management strategy without considering the above.

In short, stop the fkng whinging.

We're talking about the group of players under 25, not what happened at the end of 2023.

After watching our VFL team lose their 11th game in a row.

Do you delist De Mattia and put him on the rookie list? Looks a while off being a good VFL player.

Jakob Ryan is a delist

Macrae Delist

Bytel Delist

Allan is lucky he's tall

Josh Eyre has been extremely disappointing.

The entire VFL program needs a complete rework, pathetic performance from them the entire season and it's hurting the development of kids to get smashed every week

When do the Under 25 Championships start?

Until then, what a pointless whiny thread.

What BS, it's a totally relevant thread.

We have limited youth coming through with Amy quality.
Our VFL list is ordinary.

We have limited draft capital so rely on the youth to step up at this point.

This is a real problem currently at the club, how much more relevance do you require champ.

Didn’t you know that you can’t tell him anything.

I don't think it's possible to isolate one from the other because context is important. How can one discuss the playing group age demographic and ignore the context of where the club is in the premiership window?

25 is just an arbitrary number. Why not discuss the list in terms of 28 year olds which then includes JDG, Moore, & Josh Daicos? All relatively young players.

The list will be transformed over the next 2-3 years as the players currently 32 and older retire.

Really need McGuane and Rocca's to come through.
Maybe we will need to keep some draft picks to secure them though.

There are quite a few who have our measure if we reload.

And a lot who ha e a jump start on us rebuild wise.

We are going to need to be proactive at the trade table to get back up for another tilt.

Plus the new Tassie team and its concessions will make for an interesting few years.

Funny how battlers only bring this up immediately after a loss. Thanks for the advice Tiger.

Because we are years away at minimum from another flag tilt and its the 25's and under predominately who will need to get us there

Our list of players under 25:

Carmichael - Retired
Richards - He's had a decent year, turning 25
Murphy - Retired
Quaynor - Having a terrible season
Mcreery - Was about to be dropped before his injury
Dean - Might be okay with more preseasons
Macrae - Will be delisted
Parker - Not sure
Begg - Delisted
Eyre - Not sure, hasn't started well in the VFL, injury prone.
Mcinnes - Not trusted by the coaches, struggles to have an impact. Could still make it

Nick Daicos - Gifted F/S. GOAT

Ned Long - Potential delisting
Ryan potential delisting
Steene - Too early to say
Harrison - Had a few good games and a few poor ones

Allan/Jiath/Demattia/Smit too early to say

Basically, get ready for a big rebuild lads.

Yep easily.

Hine still the GOAT, just ask the loyal followers.

Yes we clearly do

Dekka still doing an amazing job according to many on here though. Mind boggling he still has any fans. Some real Stockholm syndrome stuff

Ohhh it's unbelievable, we only have 9 years of drafts for evidence.

You don't know how far we might be from a flag. Nobody does.

I’ll put my house on it you said this during 2021. There’s 17 other teams on the comp. We’ve been more successful than most. There’s going to be down periods.

It might come as surprise to yourself and a few, that we can’t win the flag every year

Damning list
Lots of busts

We should have told freo to get stuffed and take our first round pick from last year for Schultz or we walk away. They can have De Mattia

28 isn't relatively young
