Certainly Steven close to his best could bring that sort of output.

Of course there is some risk he won't get back to consistently playing and performing at a high standard. And that's reflected in the late pick that's currently earmarked for him.

But 57 Brownlow votes in the four seasons before 2019 tells you that he's not that far past some pretty compelling football at the top level.

So, if Jack does return to footy with a spring in his step next year, this deal will be a massive win for us.

I meant more if he helps the team be enjoyable to watch - competitiveness is one thing that helps with that imo. I think we'll get to see plenty of Gryan and Chook next year with or without Jack, no reason for it to be either/or.

Jack is a good player at best imo...some saints supporters think he is an elite midfielder, not me. He more often than not butchers the ball by foot and handballs generally head towards the feet of the target. Won multiple bf's in a very poor team, think Robbie Flower similar thing, loved by their own but not really warranted.

Smith does not suck. Two top 10s in our best and fairest in the only years he was given a decent amount of games.

I agree in part, thought he and Stanley playing together could have been anything as a ruck duo but the MC decided against it.

IMO didn't take his opportunities when he was the lone ruckman but maybe that was because his confidence had already been shot.

What I dont get, is the Saints baulked at 37 for Steven, but now take 58? Have we offered another player (to create a list spot), or have we offered 37 as well...or do the Saints need the cap room to facilitate the multiple trades they've made...????
