This is probably the hardest time of the year, just after the footy season finishes and before the international summer of cricket starts. It's a bit of a no mans land for sport with boring shit like horseracing and motorsport, although at least there is the Rugby World Cup this year.

You need to have a break from footy though, if footy went all year round you'd get sick of it, after a 6 month break everyone is champing at the bit to get back into footy again.

Nah premier league will keep me going over the summer.

QFT.

The footy media drain the absolute shit out of it - to the point where it's time for a break after a 6-7 month season. It's constantly in your face and always a talking point socially. The off-season is a good length of time to reset.

And the EPL is a perfect means of keeping the sport obsession up.

October is a nothing month, i have a mild interest in the spring carnival, but it doesn't have that same allure for me as it once did. It's become just an excuse for one almighty piss up. It takes a while to come down from the emotional side of following a football team, the void that is left is a tough one to fill immediately.
I am no Soccer fan, (I like QPR in the UK only) so the A League is out for me, I have a mild interest in the Buffalo Bills (NFL perennial losers). I like the Cricket and i look forward to the Tests, surprisingly i am also looking forward to the next "Big Bash" series.
Once the fixture is released and know the date of the first bounce, i will settle in to summer sports, go outside more and count down the days to the start of a new season.

Yes, but if it was on all year round, we'd get sick of it. Once trade week and the draft are over, December and January are boring for footy news and so I forget about it for a bit. Until Feb when the anticipation starts to build again, occupy myself with NFL, and then small doses of cricket and the a-league.

Not in the slightest:

Summer of cricket
English Premier League
A-League
(other soccer leagues)
NFL
NHL
NBA
Spring Racing Carnival
It's sunny, go outside

Pick your poison, still plenty of quality sport around over our summer. I assume everyone has watched a soccer game so it may not be for you but watch a couple of American football or ice hockey games for example and try to get a sense of what's going on (rather than dismissing it straight away), you may find a new summer vice.
