Direct quote from one of the insiders over on WOOF.

“Had a chat with one of our board members yesterday.

They have heard the criticism of both fans and media this year, the board-member I spoke to admitted they didn't do enough with the assistant changes last season. Without going into too much detail they are looking to move Bevo into more of the Hinkley style coaching role, next season they are looking at setting him as the motivator, managing player relationships, rev ups, on the boundary line on game day etc, they want a host of experienced assistant coaches to set our ''game style'' and run the ''game plan'' on match day with Bevo taking a backseat to actual tactics.

This system has worked well for other clubs, currently Bevo does both, he takes on a huge amount of workload managing both player relationships and the running of game-day, might see a different look/attitude Bevo next season with the changes they want to make.

Right now it's finding a host of experienced assistant coaches to come in that will be key to our success next season.”

Sounds like some big changes ahead, at least the board realises what we all did last year and the coaching changes weren’t enough…

What if though ... what if we won it this year with the status quo.

That would throw a spangher in the works.

I reckon if Bevo can go with that , it’s only positive . He looks worn out .
Bevos relationship management is his key strength.. I’ve questioned his game day tactics for years. And yeah, seems way overworked.

A… Matty Spangher in the works ?
Happy Daffy Duck GIF by Looney Tunes

If that model works and Bevo agrees, he could have a Jock McHale-like tenure.

Which will give this board - including our descendants for several generations - years of pro/anti/on the fence Bevo threads.

If only we could harness the collective keystrokes on BF, we could feed the energy into the national power grid!

Soon AI will develop a hologramatic Bev , giving rousing speeches and bon mots for centuries .

Napoleon was an overrated match / battle day general but he was an inspirational leader who persuaded a load of peasants that they could conquer the world.

Results are our 3 main forwards are having career best seasons. Add some more accurate kicking and they’d be close to the best in comp.

Spangher still a spud or Spangher going ok??
Naughty, Marra & Cody? I’d suggest that natural development in early 20 year olds would be expected to be honest, especially a number one pick like Marra in his 3rd season. Definitely not Naughtys best season either.

Positive signs in the past month though but it was a shambles before that.

Sounds great if we can pull it off - that would suit Bevo perfectly. I’d love to get Old Bevo back refreshed.

We need action though not talk so let’s see what happens, we’ll find out very soon

Bon mots - another personal favourite of mine, mon amis! 👍

Bevo the hologramatic (one 'm' or 2?) Little Corporal. Let's hope he doesn't try to invade Ballarat in the depths of winter!

Paraphrasing that military genius John Winger in his brilliant 1981 monologue:

"Nobody cried when Old Bevo disappeared? I'm sure. I cried my eyes out. So we're all dogfaces, we're all very, very different, but there is one thing that we all have in common: we were all stupid enough to follow the greatest club in the land."

Bevo the motivator and spangher the match day mastermind
Well, I know of one ex-coach who is apparently a brilliant tactician and pretty much terrible at everything else.
His name is Leon Cameron...

You very conveniently left out the next 2 sentences in the monologue :) "There's something wrong with us, something very, very wrong with us. Something seriously wrong with us....."

Though a year late it looks like Bev's support will be significantly boosted, which should have happened when they resigned him for a further 2 years.

As for the assistants it should be a mix of experience as well as in experience to develop the coaching group as a whole.

Getting Bruce outside the soft cap is brilliant business whilst at the end of next season providing a break glass KPP.

There is a lot of debate on these pages about the strengths of our current team and the impact of the coaching group on the team, but reality is we are not that far away from personel, to game plan to really challenge. We just need to provide full coaching and support around the group.

It cannot all be down to Bev but there is no reason at all Bev could not be at the centre of that

Is Bruce, Cameron Bruce? And is this happening or speculation?

At least a year too late but my god I hope we pull this off properly. Bring the magic back Bevo

They should get a specialist kicking coach to cover both kicking at goals and general field kicking.

We need to address the above as we are shocking at both.

Some players kicking skills e.g B.Smith have gone on and on without been addressed.

I'm no expert but in the old days the under 9's is were you learned to kick the ball playing football. I guess in the modern game you learn to kick a footy once you're an AFL player.
