How'd you like the conversation between Matt and Tom in the 50th Anniversary Special?

I liked it a lot. Tom is the most iconic Dr Who for most of us generation X fans so chosing him as the one to speak with Matt probably made Gen X think their man is indeed the #1 Dr for all time.

Anyone think that Tasha Lem may somehow be River Song?...

Watching the replay last Friday, the dialogue between Lem and the Doctor before the Doctor and Clara teleported down to Christmas strongly implies that Lem is intended to be River Song.

Episode would have been completely impenetrable to non-fans

The christmas episodes typically tried to appeal to a broader audience... Moffat spent a lot of this episode unwinding a lot of earlier plot story lines like Transalore, the crack, the timelords' being displaced... the ep was perfectly fine but you have to wonder at how dramatic future storylines will be if the writing team can so conveniently hit the reset button any time the story line gets too convoluted

I am sounding like a typical dr who internet basher... I really like Moffat and Smith and think that they have been great for the show - this ep didn't live up to my expectations given the phenomenon that was the 50th anniversary special

I'm a fan of Moffat, but I'm of the opinion that while he's a great writer he's not a great showrunner. He tries to do too much.

When does the show come back here with the new Doctor?

Annoying how the new Sy Fy channel on Foxtel puts 3 sets of ads in the classic series now when the old one didn't have any at all.

Think they only started filming the latest series with Capaldi a few days ago, so not expecting it to show here for several months.

Re the Daleks: think they've been overdone recently too - time for some different monsters, Always wanted to see the Raston Warrior Robot from the Five Doctors again.

Controversial opinion: Far, far too many Dalek stories lately. They've lost their impact given we see them every 6 episodes or so.

That's hardly controversial, people have been saying that ever since Tennant couldn't leave the TARDIS without tripping over them.

It was like that early on too. Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee over-used Daleks until the producers got smarter and used them more sparingly. Tom Baker only met them twice, with once each for Davison, Colin Baker and McCoy. (Two for Davison if you include their cameo in "The Five Doctors".)

I liked the Daleks in the Eccleston series where they were slowly set up as the series antagonists. After that it quickly got tiresome, culminating in that awful three-parter set in 1930s Manhattan.

At $650 for front row + photo and autograph or $950 for a couple more photos on top of that it's a rip off. By comparison as geeks my wife and I go to Armageddon each year as Gold pass / gold pass partner as our major convention. That cost us $650 each for two days, with around 8 panels seen. Plus two photos and four autographs. However the big difference is that cost included cocktail party Friday night with all the panelists. And part of that cost was to have dinner the Saturday night with the actors who played Strax, Jenny, Churchill and Dorian in the latest series. The hub one you get zip. Yes you are getting the main stars, but f-me, big bucks for zero real interaction. My money is going towards Armageddon for this year with less than .1 seconds to decide which is the one worth doing.
