He's kicked 21 goals so far how is that not great value?

If you are worried about his kicking for goal why do you not worry about him turning it over in far worse positions down back? He isn't a renowned field kick like a Franklin who can spray the set shots
Naughton has kicked 21 goals, but his value as a forward is far greater than that.

To play as a kpf, but be so mobile, competitive on the ground and apply so much forward pressure is invaluable. We are not so strong in some of these areas, so for mine he is really needed forward.

The thought of sending him back and relying on Josh Bruce to play his role (as honest a competitor as Bruce is) to me is not a goer

Does anyone have an update on the Cats injuries? They don’t have a deep midfield as it is and their starters are all injured in Dangerfield, Guthrie & Holmes. I know Dangerfield is doubtful but it’s an area we really need to dominate on Saturday night. Ceglar, Blicavs, Atkins & Bruhn against English, Bont, Libba, Macrae etc. should be really be a demolition if we’re serious.

Esava, Bowes, Duncan & Rohan are others that might still be missing. De Koning looked a little tenative in his return as well.

Duncan has ruled himself out. Esava is also out with a hamstring issue.

The red headed menace Rohan will probably be back though

As big an historic issue as Dangerfield has been when we play them. It's their half back interceptors especially Tom Stewart who has been a literal roadblock to us getting the Geelong shaped monkey off our back. The problem is that like robust mids getting hold of and taking the game away from us, half back/KPB interceptors tend to do the same as Melbourne have been want to do to us and as we saw Ballard do over the weekend.

It's a bit of an elephant in the room. JUH is getting separation and marking on the lead. conversion is a bit of an issue right now. Naughton seems to be staying deep more often than not and and because of our delivery is relying on his marking ability. The problem as we saw on the weekend is, for all of the i50 dominance we had. It mattered not because we ****ed around and found out what happened when those entries were as slow and haphazard as they were. Thus once again playing into the hands of a fullback who had our deep forwards measure in the air.

To be fair. TO'B was directly responsible for one of the dumbest kick ins in the history when the game was in the balance with 2:45 to go. Bailey Dales attempt to clear the ball at the very end of the first qtr was a close second.

Due to recency bias, it's probably still seared into people brains. I know it is in mine.

In the end it I guess it come down to a preference as to whether you want a kick in the balls or a punch in the face with these two after the weekends game.

As for changes.

It'll be Treloar for Mcneil

FULL STOP.

Footscray are diabolically bad and Beveridge seems wedded to the idea of keeping JO'D as far away from that flaming train wreck as possible.

I dont blame him.

Norman you have been long time supporter like me and I basically agree with your post. Twice since 2018 we got out to big leads only to be run down. We got beat by Gary Rowan kick after the siren when we made an error in the last 30 seconds. I think the biggest danger is Cameron. Jones probably plays on Hawkins and I think he will give him a bath and be able to run off him, Hawkins looks as slow as treacle. Bevo is going to back Gardiner in against Cameron and that worries he needs help. I think we can kick a winning score against their defence by good ball use and lowering the eyes.

Can't kick goals in big games, taken to the cleaner by a 10 gamer. If Naughton doesn't perform in the next 2 games v Cat and Power, I'd say the experiment is over. Carlton can't survive with a misfiring Coleman medalist McKay. I hope he doesn't drag us down (in the forward line) before it's too late. JUH needs to pair with natural forwards.

I just came across a Facebook reel that explains a Kayo subscription is $30 a month ($360 a year)... But if you sign up as a Western Bulldogs member ($220), it comes with 12 months of Kayo at no additional cost.

Is this something current members can access? I'd be pretty shitty if I've been paying for Kayo all this time when I could have had it as part of my Bulldogs membership.

It wouldn’t be as part as, it’d be in addition too. Yes you can buy it as well, it was fairly well advertised and publicised when it was launched.

This game will be won and lost in the midfield. If Geelong roll out a midfield performance like they did on the weekend we will have enough for them.

The problem with Naughton is that he is not a natural forward. He prefers the kick it long and high and I'll take a fly at it. Whilst that is need on occasions, it should not be the bread and butter of a predominately FF located player. He needs to drop in short sometimes for the 15 metre stab pass. He rarely ever does this. Compare that to Jamarra or even Schache who constantly lead up to the ball carrier.

No I'm not sure I want him moved because I love his work rate as a forward and don't believe Lobb or Bruce can replicate it. Yet I do think he would improve our defensive out of sight. It may need to be trailed at some stage as otherwise we would never know.

The Naughton back discussion comes up constantly.

Here are the facts we are averaging 72.9 points against a game. Our two highest scores conceded this year 115 and 92 in rounds one and two. Our backline isn’t our issue until this weekend we had been brilliant against talls. You don’t throw the baby out with the bath water from one bad game.

Up forward we have an issue. We are only averaging 77.9 points a game. Only 5 teams average less, all are outside of the 8. We constantly struggle to convert our chances. Only 4 times have we scored more goals than points. Twice we have scored the same amount. We also struggle to connect with our forwards.

Would be very interested in the statistics but appears as though we go inside 50 with wide entries or shallow entries rather than dangerous areas. Our talls do seem to get to the same spots a lot and our talls get in their way or fly against them too often rather than timing their run to the contest.

I don’t see Naughton helping in defence let’s say he makes a difference of 1.5 goals a game back there. Are JUH and Lobb ready to fill his role? Take the number one defender and average 2 goals a game? When they can’t do it on the second and third defenders atm? Would someone else step up?

Because if we make the change but can’t score worse than now then we will be in the same boat in games. Not taking our chances during our period of dominance.

Also having someone else there doesn’t mean they will make the shots Naughton has missed, because they need to get the ball in the same situations to have that opportunity to kick it

I would drop Cody for this game. It’s an important game, but if he doesn’t want to put his head over the ball without flinching or go for mark without throwing his arms out, he doesn’t deserve to play. He needs this rest to think about his approach to football. It will help him personally and the team long term to straighten him up now rather then us getting this rubbish on the big stage in September.
I said weeks ago I never want to see Hannan in the team again, he may just be be personally cursed, that’s why we lose when he plays, but I don’t think so.

Would it be:
Weightman for West
TOB for “Mid Season Draft player”
McNeil for Treloar

I think Naughton back may depend on who could possible replace him up forward. Naugthon CHB is the 2nd key defender we need. Yet at the moment it would be a rob Peter to pay Paul scenario.
Yet what if Darcy starts to dominate and force selection as a forward in the seniors, then it may be worth a trail at least to see?

The only way he gets drop is form. Not because he staged for a free. Yeah, sure he needs to get it out his game. I thought he was good against the crows and had better latter part of the game against the suns but was quiet overall. The outcry to make him public enemy number 1 is way over the top. Joel Selwood spent his whole career dropping his knees to draw a free kick but was lauded as a champion for his other attributes.

That is the problem we need someone to replace him at the other end who rarely gets out marked and who worries the opposition that they not only put their best defender on but have a third defender looking to impact.

We don’t want to be good defensively but safe and easy to defend ourselves.

I think our issue is more the forward line and we are using one game as a need to change things

He didn’t just stage for one free, he staged all night. It was embarrassing. I was away so couldn’t read on here or get other media besides the game. I actually have not consumed any media since the game, I’ve only heard he is copping it. My non bulldog mates were the good test, they were appalled. The jumper I was wearing has a number 3 on the back. I was embarrassed as the bulldog there. I hope the coaching group or the leadership group takes him aside to show how poor that acting both looks and is.

Look I would like to see him get it out of his game but it suddenly has become the worst footy crime in modern footy. Staging and appealing for free kicks has been around since as long as I can remember. I can recall Kevin Bartlett pushing the ball out when about to be tackled and throwing his arms out for a appealing for free kick. The uproar is like he king hit someone behind play.

I hear there is a pile on, I haven’t read. But this type of play is kinda cheating and weak. Which is the opposite of why we love this great game. We want them to be honest. Libba would never do this crap.

Excuse the intrusion.

Duncan, Guthrie, Holmes, Stanley, Menegola and Ratugolea are no chance. Scott implied Dangerfield won't be back until after the bye so he sounds very unlikely.

Rohan and Bowes sound like the only possible inclusions and they're not exactly game changers given it's our midfield that is the issue. Bowes might have to go through there a fair bit though.

The numbers weren't too one sided against GWS but the pressure they applied meant our mids couldn't get any clean ball forward and took our forward line out of the game. Then the other way they got clear with ease. If that's what the GWS midfield missing Kelly did I'm pretty worried about what the dogs midfield could do.

We were honest in 2009 and a dive cost us a grand final berth.

I'd rather be ruthless.

I think it’s time for a backlash against over zealous commentators with poor eyesight and even worse appreciation of how to assess low resolution video replays.

There was indeed contact, and Cody didn’t just randomly throw himself to the ground as has been suggested.

Now he is being made a pariah because it wasn’t obvious enough to satisfy some people on a dodgy replay video!
