Reports are Dangerfield will not play. The cats have owned us under Bevo's rule the last time we beat them I think was 2018 at Marvel when Harry Taylor missed a shot after the siren. They even beat us twice in our flag year 2016 the first time was when Mitch Wallis broke his leg and Redpath did his knee. Time to extract some revenge.

Thought Wallis Redpath injuries were vs Saints
I may be wrong

We think this is a big game for us. If the Crows win here it's a massive game for the Cats. They're in danger of losing touch with the 8.

David King spot on tonight on first crack. Naughton back because Gardiner, O'Brien and Keath do not cut it.
What you mean the David King who said before the Finals series in both 2016 and 2021 we had no chance yet revised that both times we made the GF winning one of them!!

Yeah I would listen to someone who has not put their hand up to actually coach and see if their theories actually work in the real world

The reason I have wanted Naughton to go back for a long time now (even more so before we had Jones) is in his first season as a defender he showed that he could be a star and a natural. What have seen of him forward is he has the ability to take a great mark and fights on the ground but is inconsistent and a very average kick for goal. Yes, playing forward is much tougher. What I do not understand why do we not give it a try you can always change it back even during a game. Liam Jones is a perfect example of an inconsistent forward becoming star down back and we never tried it first time with us. I will concede that Astro is a better forward that Jones. We know O'Brien, Gardiner and Keath are just average at best. Gardiner tries had but gives nothing offensively and got towelled up on Saturday.

I think our defence would go from good this season to the best in the comp. Yes it may weaken our forward line but it is possible what we gain is far greater than what we lose. We are not getting great value from Asto at present. I would give Bruce first crack forward.

Nothing ventured nothing gained what have we got lose by trying it. A better team?

He's kicked 21 goals so far how is that not great value?

If you are worried about his kicking for goal why do you not worry about him turning it over in far worse positions down back? He isn't a renowned field kick like a Franklin who can spray the set shots

Our backline is not the issue, although Gardner and TOB had stinkers and are probably below average generally. Keath/Bruce/Crozier got demolished in the vfl, you could very well make some swaps from that pool but I doubt it changes much. Our backline as a whole has been good all season (largely thanks to Jones and Richards)

Naughts is struggling but he is allowing Marra to get less attention and is the sort of player that shouldn’t stay down for long.

Treloar in, McNeil sub and dropping Hannan should be plenty. Our vfl cupboard is bare and besides that, it’s our league worst goal kicking accuracy and our forward entries/setups that lost us the game, not really the players picked

None of that sensible talk here, thanks.

I am shocked to see so many people calling for TOB to be out over Gardner.

IMO Gardner played one of the worst games I've seen him play, and that's saying something. Neither were good, but far out Gardner was bad.

21 Goals in 11 matches is not a great return slightly less than 2 a game. Look it may not work but cannot anyone tell me why it is not worth a try in the attempt to make us a better team. I not sure if we are good enough to win the flag this season whatever we do with player positions. However, we are not going to win it with Gardiner, Keath or O'Brien as our next best defender after jones. It has already cost us 2 games.

Port when Marshall got hold of O'Brien in the last quarter and to add this O'Brien shocking short pass lead to another goal.
Suns Lukosis got a hold of Gardiner

Anyway, that if my opinion and I would love to see it tested you never know Naughton back and giving us the best defence in the league.

can't see Bevo taking a chance moving Naughton in this game, unless the other coaches all want it, or a surprise injury crops up. If we were in a more comfortable position or in absolute desparate situation then perhaps, but he's being strong keeping him forward.

Defence win premierships. The last team to win a premiership with a sub par defence was us and even that team had Morris, Boyd and Wood in it.

I’ve flipped and flopped with the idea of Naughton being moved down back but that was whilst he was hugely influential up forward. He is definitely still terrorising oppositions defenders but I genuinely think we can get as much productivity up forward with a combination of Bruce/Jamarra/Lobb. The Naughton down back experiment may not work, but I believe it would.

As big an historic issue as Dangerfield has been when we play them. It's their half back interceptors especially Tom Stewart who has been a literal roadblock to us getting the Geelong shaped monkey off our back. The problem is that like robust mids getting hold of and taking the game away from us, half back/KPB interceptors tend to do the same as Melbourne have been want to do to us and as we saw Ballard do over the weekend.

It's a bit of an elephant in the room. JUH is getting separation and marking on the lead. conversion is a bit of an issue right now. Naughton seems to be staying deep more often than not and and because of our delivery is relying on his marking ability. The problem as we saw on the weekend is, for all of the i50 dominance we had. It mattered not because we ****ed around and found out what happened when those entries were as slow and haphazard as they were. Thus once again playing into the hands of a fullback who had our deep forwards measure in the air.

To be fair. TO'B was directly responsible for one of the dumbest kick ins in the history when the game was in the balance with 2:45 to go. Bailey Dales attempt to clear the ball at the very end of the first qtr was a close second.

Due to recency bias, it's probably still seared into people brains. I know it is in mine.

In the end it I guess it come down to a preference as to whether you want a kick in the balls or a punch in the face with these two after the weekends game.

As for changes.

It'll be Treloar for Mcneil

FULL STOP.

Footscray are diabolically bad and Beveridge seems wedded to the idea of keeping JO'D as far away from that flaming train wreck as possible.

I dont blame him.

Could Busslinger come in for TOB?

Give him a shot at playing intercept defender and see how he goes. His kicking & decision making is much better. It’s all to do with his positioning and ability to cover the ground that will be key.
