I thought the club was confident it could defend the charge. Obviously they thought it would be in the clubs' best interests to accept the ban.

It seems that there is some confusion about the good old fashioned shirt front as evidenced by comments from past players like Doug Hawkins and contemporaries such as Matthew Lloyd.

I suppose fighting head-high contact isn't going to give you much of a chance to get off a charge. Most people don't agree with the AFL's decision to ban the shirtfront, but you have to accept the fact the AFL is looking to the future for parents who want their kids to participate in a sport that has no tolerance for head-high contact.

i think they weighed up public opinion and the afl interrpretation and realized they couldn't win.

the problem was he hit him in the head. Can't get out of that one no matter what your excuse is

It's a bit farcicle, especially where there was no malice and the player didn't have his head over the ball nor was he bending down. Huge loss for us this week, he is our key playmaker and the most skilled bloke in the side who opposition sides find very hard to match up on. Interesting to see how they go with the replacement. At least this time around, unlike last year, we have blokes ready to step up or come back like Hill, Harbrow, Ward, Wight etc.

uhhh :(

Oh well then I think its time to bring in the CM

he has been in great form for the reserves all year and must get a game now.

Cmon bulldogs selection board please give Callan Ward a go :thumbsu:

Only when it suits them though!!!

Brad Johnson could have easily sustained a broken eye socket when Campbell dropped his knee into Johnno's head....no charge.

What about Mitchell's "coathanger" hit on Ryan Griffen? It wasn't even looked at.

No doubt this is a disappointing result for Murph & the team BUT
let's look at this week as the perfect chance to test our depth.

We have more than covered the loss of Westy over the last few weeks to the extent where many pundits are wondering where he'll fit back in!
This week gives us a real chance to see how far we have come.

We've lost one of our prime movers and perhaps the smartest football brain in the team. Can we cover this loss and still beat a pretty decent team in St. Kilda who are coming off a big win?

The loss of one major component to our team, for one week, should not impact too much, if our depth and commitment is as strong as we think it is.

still amazed at how trent west got off.

Too right..

I remember Minson getting done for downing Ling in a very similar fashion to Trent West's misdemeanour..

But I'm sure if West had been cited this week he'd have got a couple of weeks too.. it's just unfortunate timing for Bob.

We seem to have a pretty good relationship with the AFL.
Is it possible that we didn't challenge the decision, so as not to upset the relationship with the AFL, as we recieve the competitive balance funding from them each year?
I'd be very disappointed if this was a factor.
Stilll cant believe we didn't challenge it, now he has carry over points for later in the year.

I doubt that was even a factor Turtle.

If they figured they could get him off it would have been challenged straight away. Obviously they couldn't as the law is rather strict and technically he did do it. No point in challenging for the sake of it and adding another match to it.
