I agree with this one Scrag. If it was Matthew Boyd who playing that role getting caught holding the ball three times in the match I hate to think at the vitriol delivered his way on this thread. Yet people are excusing a "decent" 19 possession game when he's only gotten that few touches once out of the 9 games this season.

bob himself hurt us a couple times as well. I think it's time to drop someone for Webb anyway.

I thought Honey was really good. Was surprised to see that he only had 14 touches.

Yeah, he popped up a few crucial times and put his body on the line. I'd say the only real blemish was the mystifying decision to attempt a set shot against the wind from 45-50 out when he struggles from that distance in decent conditions.

Just had a look a this the stats and can't believe Libba only got 13 tocuhes.

I thought he was very good on the inside tonight and would of expected him to have had 20 at least. Competed well for most of the game.

Loved players finally stand up to the off the ball shit today. Redpath & Roughead not only standing up for themselves but their teammates. Good to see - Gold Coast tapered off a bit with their physicality after that quarter time mellee.

Lynch is probably their most intimidating player, so when he's put on his ass by big Red, it's not surprising they backed down a bit

I liked how we played today, looked hungry and attacked the ball with ferocity.
Always things to improve but good that I don't need to drink myself to death.
I'm loving this biggsy renaissance, he's been looking so so good recently.
Thought libba looked OK happy he got that goal, Bailey dale is a little legend , only one who kicks for goal and I don't hide behind my hands expecting a miss

Yeah, this constant theme of clubs trying to bash us up and intimidate us with off the ball shenanigans is only going to work for so long. They are becoming hardened to it and won't be rattled by it for much longer. This year will be great for our players development. Getting used to being hunted and having teams come after us physically will mature a young list well before their time.

Dunno if it's just me but we seemed to hit targets and move the ball better for much of the game. Good signs.
...
We did, but you'd hope so. We weren't under anywhere near the defensive pressure applied by sides like Sydney and Adelaide. They make it harder for players to spot up targets and they close down the spaces faster.

Let's see if it translates to the Essendon game.

Not to mention the actual dumb fact that other teams have given away free kicks from doing it. We might be rattled, but at the price of giving us the ball for free, actually having the ball for free might help us win more games of footy.

Something depressing.. win one of the 2 wet toast games and the gws game and we'd be outright 3rd and 2 points off 2nd.. despite a crap year

That's what pisses me off about the 2nd west coast game. We knew what was at stake. It wasn't an 'important in hindsight' game, it was for all intents and purposes a final, and we all knew that at the time. They brought over a team missing several of their best to our home turf. And we lost. They ran all over us, we fought back, and then let them win it with a massive defensive brainfade. Even though we've gotten a few unexpected beltings, I think that game has to be the most disappointing loss of the season. We had to turn up with a do or die attitude and we chose die.

Speaking of which, Free Kicks were 24-13 today (HT 12-6). Another media barrage this week?

Congrats to the umps for not trying to even it up in the second half, although I thought they made a few howlers (both ways) in the 2nd half.

Did you know they call him the prince of Cairns? Feel like this is very important and wasn't mentioned on the coverage enough today.

At first I thought of JJ's game as 'rounding back in to form' rather than 'great game', 22 touches is decent and all...But looking at the stats, he had the usual leading the team in bounces, was also equal 1st in goal assists (3), and was equal 3rd in inside 50s (5), but here's the killer: He went at 91% efficiency. That's pretty incredible for such an attacking player. Lethally efficient game. Well done JJ.

Lol Essendope board.

Some nuffie picked them by 90 points. We haven't played well all year but they don't play well against sides in ordinary form. We're a shot
Yeah, he doesn't represent most of us. I'm confident, but that's purely because of your record when coming back down from Cairns.

I'd make a minor tweak to that. We don't play well in games where we start as major favourites. Games we've been considered definitely the better side going into the game: Brisbane x2, Carlton, Freo, Collingwood (second game), North. 3-3, 105.8%

Games where we've been considered slightly better or worse going into the game: Hawthorn, Adelaide, ANZAC Day, Melbourne, Geelong, West Coast, Richmond, GWS, Port, Sydney, St. Kilda. 6-5, 123.1%

Goes a very long way to explaining our indifferent form this year and why teams will continue to target him. He's our barometer and other teams know it.

His turnovers hurt us and he got done holding the ball at least three times. I just don't see what he brings to the side as he's not particularly fast, he's not great overhead and he isn't an elite ball user. The only thing he seems to do well is spin out of tackles which isn't that useful unless you can hurt the opposition with pace or kicking. I get that he's young but the way people on here talk about him you'd think he's the next Bob Murphy.
Im starting to get used to the theory that he looks like a jet at VFL level because his average legspeed still covers most VFL guys quite easily. He does those evasive steps and is then able to burn VFL dudes and run away from them. In the AFL it is a different kettle of fish because he does lack legspeed for that position and for this league overall. He still has poise and decent footskills though. I'm confident that he can carve out a decent career but like you I'm no longer sold on the fact that he will be a stud player or compare to a bob murphy or other great league half backs. He just isn't quick enough.

Finally great to see us win by a big margin. Then again going up against a bottom rung side missing a few key players, would have expected nothing less

Our young players have really been stepping up and carrying this team the last two weeks in the mold our senior players did last season. Bailey Dale the most improved player on the list, starting to show he can be dangerous around the goals. McLean's footy IQ is great, allowed him to transition to midfield more smoothly. Honeychurch tries the harder than most all game, his tackle to set up a goal was huge given the point of the game. Yeah he lacks polish, but been in our top 10 the last few games, haters can stick it. Williams did some nice things, needs more of a run, sometimes freezes and gets caught out time to time. Young has shown a lot of maturity and poise for someone of his experience and age, rarely loses a contest and tries hard. Seems to use the ball well despite some knocks on his kicking post draft. Will have some bigger tests ahead.

Young, Wood and Adams would be our best markers in the team and can rotate between the back pocket and forward line in future seasons

Bontempelli and Murphy had some stinker moments, but given they usual put in the good most weeks, can excuse them for having a bad one. Murphy holding the ball to long, losing an options to pass off, decides to run backwards 10 meters and then feed poor Williams to the wolves by handballing to him with two gold coast players on him causing him to be tackled and cough up a goal was so unusual for a veteran with Bobs smarts

Must win game next week. Will be 2 wins and percentage off Essendon in 8th if we drop it. Will just about be the game that will dictate the rest of our season

All for keeping up with the Gold Coast games, players love it, rejuvenates the mind and is an escape from the cold. We get wins and money up there, which is both good for the club

Eventually this game should be in Ballarat so the weather conditions suit us.

Kicked 16 goals and won by 54 points. It's got to be an omen. We've turned the corner, and the flag is as good as ours!

Given this result occurred in round 18, it’s only logical that it’s a sign that we win the 2018 premiership.
