Having watched quite a lot of the replay, I want to give a big shoutout to Rhylee West. He is showing so much determination to stay in the team that his attack on the ball and the man is manic. His bulldozer tactics might not always work but last night they contributed to several goals. He might find it more difficult against better teams than WC but it is good to see him building a role for us.
He (and his Dad) wouldn't have liked it, but having to fight and scrap hard for his spot might be the making off him. He's come in and he's got a lot of campaigner in him. More than he's ever had before. Seeing so much of his Dad about him and if he's half the player...
Yep he’s been an animal since day 1 at VFL level, never less than 100% at every contest - which is why it’s weird Bevo hasn’t given him every chance, he usually loves thatHe had campaigner as a kid too, I remember it was said said he was second only to Viney in that regard on field.
“For me, Jack Viney has probably been the toughest I’ve seen go through the academy process, he really is very similar to that.
“Rhylee West to me is number two behind Jack Viney in terms of toughness around the ball."
Bev detected an entitlement expectation that some early draft picks and father-sons bring with them. That just gets them to the Club, after that they have to earn their spots, not all do or will.He (and his Dad) wouldn't have liked it, but having to fight and scrap hard for his spot might be the making off him. Actually, last week I was in Ballarat and heard Bevo say privately, that thanks to BigFooty, he decided to shift Williams to the wing.Yeah a lot of people on here called fozz
r it weeks ago, collectively we’re not as dumb as we think
Also the fact he’s played the role with a bit of success in the past too.
Props to Bevo for sticking fat with him because dropping him would have been the easy option
If West continues to play this way, I think he has to be in the team if we make finals. These are the types that are built for finals footy because they find a way to break through those contested situations through sheer desperation.
Williams keeps impressing on the wing too, it will be interesting if he's matched up on Isaac Smith next week.
That could be because in the games he was given in the beginning, he made some bad errors due to him 'trying too hard'. It happens to young players who want to get a game, and when given the chance they overdo things and in the process they give away silly free kicks or overplay the situation. I think that was West's problem. It appears that he has matured. His maturity now is shown on the ground. He still has a while to improve, but he will get there. He is as tough as nail!Yep he’s been an animal since day 1 at VFL level, never less than 100% at every contest - which is why it’s weird Bevo hasn’t given him every chance, he usually loves that
Williams to the wing whilst appearing a no brainer has been an excellent move by Bev. More than covers the loss of Hunter.
We.are literally now 3 players off our best possible team, anyone else you can debate or argue but Baz, Bruce and Mc Clean walk into the team. Therefore there is no surprise in out improvement I just hope the Adelaide loss does not impact at year end

Does McLean walk in?
I’m a massive fan, but I can’t recall his pre injury form being deserving of a walk up start. He’s also competing with far more teammates than what Bruce is.
Westy plays a similar role to what McLean had been. But he’s not getting dropped after his two games back. McNeil the other, but he’s almost had a mini breakout period.
I think McLean has a fair bit of work to do before he’s considered a lock in the 22.
Having said that, he could be tearing it up in his late recovery period and be ready to rock. Who knows!
Would you describe JJ as one of those fringe players then?Williams to the wing whilst appearing a no brainer has been an excellent move by Bev. More than covers the loss of Hunter.

Hunter is the one I reckon walks back in. Hunter and Williams on the wings.
Yeah, noticed it since his debut, he's always had those attributes of being harder at the ball and the man than most players. He had campaigner as a kid too, I remember it was said said he was second only to Viney in that regard on field.

Actually you know what, I'm not sure about that.Hunter is the one I reckon walks back in. Hunter and Williams on the wings.
Assuming he’s keeping up his fitness. Match fitness might take longer.Hunter is the one I reckon walks back in. Hunter and Williams on the wings.
There has been a marked improvement in the physical side of his game. Prior to the past few weeks I thought he hovered around the packs a bit too much leaving the ball-getting to others. Perhaps someone has had a word in his ear about attacking the ball more. Whatever the case, it's now paying dividends. But if it’s like for like I think McNeil would be very stiff, over the past 5 weeks McNeil has 3x as many tackles, more PA per game & 8 goals to 5. Plus a lot less turnovers.
It’s almost like the coaches and match committee keep developing players in the twos to work on aspects of their game that they aren’t happy with. Then once the player ticks off the required development boxes they get promoted. If they don’t, then their time in the game will be brief regardless of their pedigree. Either that or the coach has a blood vendetta against certain players and no amount of advice from us boundary side experts will ever change that.He (and his Dad) wouldn't have liked it, but having to fight and scrap hard for his spot might be the making off him. Yet why are some players afforded the luxury of developing at AFL level week in week out even if they’re seriously underperforming? It’s almost like the coaches and match committee keep developing players in the twos to work on aspects of their game that they aren’t happy with. A fit and focussed Hunter yes and a fit JJ yes, there is no record of that this season, they still need to put in some work in the VFL.Hunter, Bruce, Baz, JJ walk in from yesterday’s team.
Scott, Sweet, McComb, Buku making way.
Few other variations could play out with JUH and Schache etc but I’d like to see those changes happen.
It absolutely stands out that he’s a natural footballer, doesn’t it? Tough as nails and clean handsScotty's kid is a gun.
Still waiting for the low IQ, slow, unskilled, plodder I was promised by some on this board.
McNeil was good too. Definitely the pick out of Vdm, McComb, Scott and himself. If he can add some core strength he'll be fantastic.
Thought Caleb was better this week. Also was completely wrong about Duryea, looked himself again.
Fantastic to win by 100. Hard to judge too much against that side but encouraging signs to put them away.

Because they are ticking the off field boxes of the coaches who watch them for 30+ hours a week. Not those of us who see them for 2.Yet why are some players afforded the luxury of developing at AFL level week in week out even if they’re seriously underperforming?
Didn't Scott live on the boundary of the Footscray/Essendon zoning areas when he was drafted? Literally across the street? He could so easily have gone to Essendon. How long is West contract go to I reckon the Bombers would love to pick him up
