His numbers are actually right up there to potentially win the award (inb4 Cripps award to lose). If you take out his sub affected performances, he is averaging 20.3 disposals per game, 3rd out of rising stars (Cripps and Matt Crouch ahead by a small margin).

Possessions from full games: 17 23 20 21 18 18 24 22 24

With a big second half to the year (and with Cripps dropping off, who knows) he could challenge for the award!

It is a farce that he has no nomination and reflects bias towards all things Vic, highlights how much they watch interstate teams.

Needs a couple of 25-30+ disposal games to really get the attention of Vics. Still don't think he'll win it even if he played like Garry Ablett Jnr for the rest of the season.

Read somewhere today NN has most goals for a ruckman. But they aren't as important as marks.

Yep 11 goals. Sandi has 3 Goldy 4. Next Closest is Ryder on 7 who hardly plays in the ruck.
NN is also way out in the ruckman lead for Clearances and Centre Clearances.
But yes as you say, he doesn't mark the ball enough.

Cripps has a hefty buffer on Sheed. Obviously Cripps doesn't have much in the way of midfield competition at Carlton and plays a bigger role with more minutes. He also gets away with a lot for a second year player given his pure bulk.

Cripps is the better player at the moment. I think, as you alluded to, his larger build has allowed him to dominate the AFL quicker than Sheed.

Sheed is still a very good second year player regardless and has the tools to become 'elite'. His handball skills are exquisite, priddis-esque.

His handball skills are a thing of beauty. Much better than priddis. Not quite the equal of kerr (not quite the same uncanny vision but then i'd say kerr is just about the best i've seen with the handball) but he has great power and accuracy with it. It will take time for him to become elite at the bullocking side of things but like a lot of things in our game, basic stats do not tell the true story. In the same way that a 10m hitout onto the tit of shuey is counted as the same as a hitout to advantage as the one tapped straight down to the arms of priddis who gets tackled 1/4 of a second later Sheed has a rare ability to release players from a packed contest with very well directed, powerful handballs. There are things you can develop and things you can teach and things you can't. Cripps will become a very handy player and may even have a better career than sheed, but if sheed can bring his grunt work to the level of someone like cripps he could make a bunch of outside plodders look like superstars and im not sure that's something that cripps could ever do.

I absolutely agree with all the points you made

Don't know whether it's just my crazy manlove for Kerr, but I think it'll be very very hard for anyone to ever be as good as Kerr inside and with his hands.

Kerrs handballs were pure silk. It was like he had a sixth sense for not only where players were - but where they were going to be so he could hanball there and a player would have to stretch to reach that point. When he retired it made our midfield look very pedestrian.

Kerr is the best handballer from congestion I've ever seen.

Geez Dom is looking good tonight. Showing some strength for a second year player. He's like Priddis, but younger and with better skills.

Lock in the Rising Star Nomination. Forget the stats. Influential, head over the ball, flying back into traffic, unselfish, tough in the clinches. It's in the bank. The release of tension is real and here to stay.

Third consecutive match where we've 'locked' it in

He was so beastly in the tight stuff, my lord.

Wished he kicked the 2nd and Lecca wasn't so selfish.

Should get it.....but who gives a flying fox anyways. Kids a gem.

Well since you asked I was impressed with him again. Getting better every week and really looks at home in a top side.
