His work in traffic is very good. Watching the melbourne game again, he is very good at getting his hands free, and his decision making and disposal is becoming much more sharper than even earlier this year. Not looping the ball up so much when he kicks.

Getting back to his form prior to getting injured, which is very pleasing. Means that we aren't exposed so much in the contest as he provides an extra extractor who can use his body to get the ball to our better runners and users.

He'll get a Rs nom before the end of the year. IMO, lonie has been very good all year and would have rightly deserved his nod much earlier.

His numbers are actually right up there to potentially win the award (inb4 Cripps award to lose). If you take out his sub affected performances, he is averaging 20.3 disposals per game, 3rd out of rising stars (Cripps and Matt Crouch ahead by a small margin).

Possessions from full games: 17 23 20 21 18 18 24 22 24

With a big second half to the year (and with Cripps dropping off, who knows) he could challenge for the award!

It is a farce that he has no nomination and reflects bias towards all things Vic, highlights how much they watch interstate teams.

A few players from outside Vic have been nominated recently. It's more that they couldn't give a shit about the WA teams. They need NSW/QLD to succeed at any costs, so most media types pay attention to their development.

And the Vic-SA connection is far stronger than the WA one.

I reckon they just didn't realise he is eligible. Incompetence is usually more likely than conspiracy.

That doesn't mean the people making the decision knew he was eligible up until after the last decision on RS Nominee. For all we know he had to look in his records to confirm DS's eligibility.

If you were doing it properly youd have a list of anyone eligible and would get a copy of their stats post game. Anyone not playing wouldnt be listed for that week. Then you go to the tape and see how those stats were accrued.

Given the announcement isnt until Monday night typically, there is plenty of time to do this properly. Will never happen.

I suspect their method is about as rigorous as a group email thread where one guy messages the others on sunday night and asks who they reckon should get the nod - there'd be a little bit of back and forth with the others CC'd in and some semi-consensuses reached, before the guy coordinating it tells the comms guy on Monday morning.

As I understand it, where there's a dead-lock amongst the group between 2 players, they'll meet up for a pint Monday arvo, and decide the winner by best or 3 rock paper scissors

that's a refreshing perspective

To be fair, players that are nominated in the latter stages of the year are just making up the numbers. The real contenders stood out earlier.

This award is going to Cripps, the entire AFL community know him as Carltons great saviour. Meanwhile ask someone over east and they won't even be able to tell you who Dom Sheed even is.

If it's not going to Cripps then we have Hogan... Melbournes great hope (^ refer to the same spiel)

The outsider in this race being Saad. I think he deserves the win, but he comes from a team of druggies so i doubt it. Plus he's not brave.

As a Natanui fan I have to hold back and restrain myself from making to many predictions for what the end of his season holds. Ive had to defend that 2012 AA to the hilt over here in the East!

Hes the 3rd best ruckman this year for mine. Goldstein>Sandilands>Natanui. I feel like Goldstein and Sandilands are starting to tire and Nic is still on the up at this point in the year :thumbsu: If the AA has a 2nd Ruckman spot its his for the taking. He needs a few more goals and marks to seal that though.

Has he lost in the ruck this year? Maybe Sandy for a bit..
