This. So much this.

Lynch and Atkins the only others who come anywhere close in terms of importance for our quick ball movement game.

Laird and Matt Crouch will get 30+ each week but have very little hurt factor. The improvement needs to come from Brad Crouch, Hampton, Cameron, Mackay and Knight (or those who we bring in to replace them).

How can you say Laird has no hurt factor?

He's 1st in the league in total effective disposals and effective disposals per game. 1st...the best in the league. He's then top 10 in rebound 50s and regularly has very high meters gained, right up there with the top rebounding players.

So you've got a guy that rebounds from defense at an elite level and uses the ball as well as any plyer in the league. But no hurt factor? Ridiculous.

He did less damage on the weekend because he was moved to take a number of centre bounces as Sloane, B Crouch and Hampton were offering us nothing.

We need B Crouch to get up to speed rapidly. Hampton needs to offer more and Sloane needs to work better through a tag. Gibbs would've been handy also.

When we kicked the 1st 4 in the 2nd q, I thought a comeback of monumental proportions was on. In a way it's good that it didn't happen. Our 1st qs have been crap all year. Sort it out players and coaches. We need to fix this now, not wait until we get rolled in two finals in September.
For those that reckon we were crap all day...well, yeah, we didn't play as well as we should and we didn't adapt to the conditions as we should....but (aint there always a but?) we outscored North for the rest of the day and I reckon that if we'd had that howling gale at our back in the 1st, weda won the game.

Why is this thread still going?
Agreed can we get rid of it?

Whilst it was started in jest it's not going to end up that way. One bad loss and it's started. Hate to end up like Ports thread which gets bumped after every loss, Pyke deserves better than that at this stage in his coaching career.

Probably locking it is the way to go. It was funny at the time. It's had its moment.

People who aren't regulars here and don't know the port board wouldn't get it at all and would think we're a bunch of hysterical arseholes

End thread please.
We are not the PAFC.

The statistic isnt enlightening as to whether that occurred at all.

"Hurt factor" is a kind of stupid term anyway. It's not measurable but disposal efficiency could arguable be used with other stats as an indication of if a player is hurting you or not. If Laird is our key rebounding player, uses the ball efficiently, and we score a huge amount from turnovers/rebounds from defense then id say he has a fair hurt factor. I'm not sure how "score involvements" works but probably chuck that in also.

People use average disposal efficiency and low meters gained to whack players like matt crouch as a players no "hurt factor."

How many of Laird's disposals are 20m sideways chips or rushed hack it on the boot type kicks?

Why do the opposition put time into keeping Smith quiet but are happy for Laird to rack up possessions at will?

Give me 20 touches from Smith over 40 from Laird any day.

Is this thread going to get deleted already??? Jokes over, I know it was a joke but was this thread even necessary

I'll never understand posts like these. Why do you need the thread to be closed exactly? Why are you even posting in a thread you have no interest in?

Yet Laird averages more score assists than Smith 7v6. More rebound 50s 5v3. More clearances 2v1. I don't have access to meters gained stats but I'd say Laird has him covered. Smith has him beat in inside 50s 4v2 and goal assists 0.3v0.1

I'm not trying to turn this in to a Smith v Laird debate because it's pointless. We've got both players, they're both excellent and both hugely important. Just trying to dismiss the notion that Laird isn't damaging in his own right.

Smith is 5th in the league for meters gained. He has Laird by around 40 m per game.

Although like DE its a rather useless stat. It should be effective meters gained. ATM a 50 m kick straight to the oppo counts as 50 m gained.

Smith is the one you try to shut down though. Covers much more of the ground with his run and raking kick as seen by his attacking stats to go with his rebound stats. Smith is a zone breaker. He hurts you more than Laird
