Pyke wont be sacked anyway

But the coaching team around him should be cleaned out.

Only Clarko and Mattner should remain IMO

I disagree. Gooden should also remain, first-year coach and considering we kept his incumbent and promoted him to a higher role, I'm guessing he wouldn't have any breathing room at all.

Campo, Hart, Hass and Burton are the ones who need to go, big time.

The pizza night in itself doesn't concern me, I'd be more concerned that they haven't been trying to fix anything.

Yeah. I have no issue with that either. It's trying to rebuild relationships, and trust which isn't a bad thing considering where we are at.

Maybe a circuit breaker, but I doubt it.

1 of the football shows mentioned Collingwood and St Kilda did similar things on weekend. Buckley took the playing group out for beers. Ratten organised for eskies of beer brought into the rooms after the game

One out of two won the next week, so not a guaranteed method, but its definitely the quickest fix in a rut is just breaking up the negativity and getting some comradery going.

Forgot about him.

What a balancing act these coaches must have to do. Don told us last year he didn’t know all the players, that’s why you had line coaches and this seemed to be the new coaching reality. I remember that surprised me at the time but then also remember young fellas at Brisbane saying they’d never actually met Voss so maybe not all that unusual. How can you put your team together if you don’t know all your players? You are trusting a line coach to put forward the best players for the role. How much of a say does the Director of Football have in selection? How much of a say does the Coach have? I mean, is Don actually happy to play a David Mackay and Richard Douglas ahead of the kids? Or are they played because their line coach puts them forward?

If your a head coach and you dont know all your players you should resign.
That speaks volumes of where this club is if true.

See I don't know enough about Godden, maybe given some freedom he'd be OK, what I completely disagreed with was us thinking we were a realistic chance of re-capturing our 2017 form, still having the same list but with a ton of work to do, risking it all with a first time Mattner, first time Godden and Hart having a go as a forward coach for the first time.

If there was ever a time to go and over-invest in proven talent this was it.

We did in 2018, and it backfired badly.

I wasn't worried about the coaching, except Hart who at that point was a long proven dud. Mattner and Gooden were first timers for sure, but had good (and underrated) pedigree by being pretty successful head coaches in the SANFL before.

We were a somewhat good chance to recapture that form to a degree, but it depended on how we changed that forward structure, how we developed our ball movement game (we needed to keep it fast, but refined), and how we got kids into our line up. Then just hope some bounce back candidates did just that.

Unfortunately, we struck out on all three points, and the warning signs were blaring right from the start when we went to a slow controlled game style.

Old school - I like it

Not doubting your comments as you heard them in person but wow.

One of the key buzzwords in coaching is emotional intelligence. The ability to understand the ups and downs and the history and life of a player. To be able to empathise , but manage, when a player is struggling at home.

Eddie Betts and his twins is an example of this. You understand the demands twins can have on a player so you lighten the load a bit and hope they respond in kind. If they dont then you take them aside and talk.

You recognise when a kid is struggling and let him stay in Melbourne an extra day etc

But after 2 years if he doesnt know them then thats on Don

Why would Teague come back here? Why would any coach?

The place is a superannuation safe house for retired Crows.

Teague isn’t one of the boys, neither was Francou.
That is a problem now. Our reputation precedes us and it becomes a vicious cycle.

We can't go outside our circle because outsiders are suspicious of us.

So the pool available to us shrinks and we are forced to go with those who know and trust us. Which only reinforces the reputation.

The current situation fails the pub test

everyone can tell you, last weeks ins to a slow side already, was crazy

everyone can tell you Sloane tagging Cripps was idiotic .... both from a speed and strength perspective

Milera being played fwd ... just stupid

It’s all happening in the Coaches Box !!

Milera would be in AA contention if playing off half back. Instead, he’s back to being a droppable forward/mid.

Would only come if Campo, Burton and Hart are gone I'd imagine. I like Teague - but i can't see this happening.
Imagine how intimidating this would be as an outsider:
Hart
Mattner
Wright
Reilly
Burton
Clarke
Roo
Smart
Jamieson
Robran
Reid (connected)

Who would you sit with in the lunch room
