Giving Sando the flick worked because the timing was right. Walsh inherited a list going into it's prime. If the club thinks sacking Pyke will give us a similar results with this group of geriatrics, they've got another thing coming.

hypothetically though, who would you trust going forward to get the right mix on the park and to build from here - Pyke or Teague. We know how good Teague was when he was our forward coach and he has turned the Carlton ship around so far

I wasn't advocating keeping Pyke. I'm just saying the club needs to rebuild so whoever takes over is not going to get instant results. We have at least 2 or 3 years worth of pain ahead of us.

So apparently Rowe said today the club will be doing an independent (external) review of the football department at the end of the year.
I'm sure they will. Supporters will never see the results of that review though and nobody at the club has any obligation to make any changes so it's not something I can get excited for.

Depends by what you mean as “results”. Tigers didn’t release full results as far as I’m aware, but just noted hires they’d made to improve areas that the review highlighted as an issue.

I get what you're saying, of course, but - if we're playing kids, they're developing and the style of footy is worth watching / showing results / offering promise for the future, then I won't find it "painful" at all. What's painful is watching the old guard getting beaten.

Bickley just said on AA that Adelaide has only 15 players on the list under-23, with only 10 of those having been played (the second lowest of the clubs, only above Melbourne who have 14). Carlton and Brisbane have the most at 25 and 23 respectively.

Ok... let me make this clear for you. This was at a breakfast here... so probably was early last year (so two seasons ago). The man is NOT a flog. He may not be your idea of a good coach, but he's not a flog. The discussion was based around how it works with all those line coaches (because obviously they are a relatively new thing to AFL). He thought they got to get to know the players on a different level than he did. As head coach he has expectations that he has to fulfil each week - media, meetings with line coaches, footy ops, medical guys, analysis of last weeks' game and analysis of the next week's opposition, as well as planning and running training sessions. There's not a whole lot of time for him to get in there and really get to know the players on an individual basis.
Keep supporting Don all you want and keep making excuses for him and his pathetic football dept. They have failed massively.

Indeed. The thing about any review like this, is that - no, the report / recommendations etc will not be released / published, and neither should they / would they in any other environment. Much as the Adelaide BF Board would in its bloodlust love to see a published report that says "...we found that X has totally lost the respect of the playing group and is an incompetent spud who should never have been allowed near a position of responsibility in a professional sporting club" that's not going to happen.

Yes. If you have a plan you’re building too, it can be tolerable. The problem comes when you’re in St Kilda territory, on year 5 or 6 and still no further ahead that it becomes an issue. Until then though.

Unfortunately for us her Intel over the last two years has been pretty much spot on.

Someone must be leaking directly to her.
Actually, no it hasn’t. She made up so much shit about “the camp”. And she’s trailed in on the end of Rowey and Tredders. She has come a long way from the once credible journo.

he came to work under Phil Walsh.
In a radion interview on trade radio when leaving he specifically mentioned how he came to Adelaide t work under and learn from Phil walsh. It sounded like as soon as Walsh was no longer there to work under it was alway a matter of time before he left and to me was a real negative to our club.

Walsh always talked about developing assistants, giving them chance to grow etc by having roles in different areas (it was looked down upon here initially when teague was made forward coach given he was a defender and I think prev assistant roles were in different areas, but that was obviously part of the drawcard- Walsh identified him for his coaching ability and offered him a role to increase his exposure to learn from knowing that a quality coach would handle the situation).

Compare that to how stagnant our coaching ranks are. Yeah we moved Hart from Def to forward but that wasn't to progress his development or because we thought he was a great coach who could improve our forward line, that was to fit him in somewhere

It’s funny, in the AFL industry, he’s gone as hard as you can go. “Went there to work with Walsh, left for family reasons.” It’s glaringly obvious to all but the completely moronic.

Carro may have made stuff up (not sure what, most of the made up crap came from others, especially that Journo trying to get McGovern to Carlton and Mark Williams who is a complete flog), but She was on the money on other issues with that camp.

Unfortunately for the AFC she also has more credibility than the likes of Burton, Fagan and Roo now, rightly or wrongly.

Who knows.

We have no way of telling what is fact and what is fiction.

The Walsh period has a lot more romance around it for many reasons, but what real impact there was is really debatable.

I still think we need to change the moniker for the board. It's been too ĺong.

Of course, he was 10 games in and had just told everyone after the GABBA win that it wasn’t good enough and he’d be improving the side from the 2s. He was murdered that week. Are you seriously expecting more ‘on the ground’ evidence? **** you and your “romance” bullshit. He was murdered, but he’d made it clear that he was pissed and changes were afoot. YOU choose to degrade him where he was likely to take us because you’re a fully bred apologist. **** you, you should be ashamed, but you apologists have no shame at all.
