More likely to be 6, Houston needs to be upgraded or delisted at the end of the year and there’s no way he’s getting delisted. Lindsay might be a chance for an upgrade too.

I imagine we’d be looking to get a few two-for-one pick deals for clubs that need draft points for bidding purposes.
Nah only has to be cut 5 as we have 38+6 rookies+ Irra so we can cut 5, draft 5, upgrade Houston and leave Thomas on rookie list and get $80k of his wage outside the cap and it would be 39+5 rookies inc Thomas+ Irra if we give him a 3rd year.

Daly Andrews is the fast outside mid whom i irrationally think is going to be a superstar despite him not being rated highly. Missed the first game for metro. 'Superstar' second game. Injured third game? Has excellent speed on the outside as a wing, wins his own ball, good size, strong tackler, looks like a footy player and teys to stay involved, good disposal. (apparently he normally shanks some?)

Just an observation ... big bodied, tall midfielders at under 18 level are a potential risk in the up-coming drafts. Just because there have been some remarkable exceptions i reckon there will be some duds picked just on their dominance at junior level.

Really the only concern a big bodied mid may not transition to afl is when they’ve been slow. Collier-Dawkins isn’t slow. He also isn’t dominating juniors from what I know he is doing well, but not dominant. He also isn’t doing well by bullying with his size from the vision I’ve seen.

Does things like hit contests running and seems to have good hands from little vision I’ve seen.

The risk appears to be how good he can become as a midfielder. I like him but I worry he could be Andrew Moore. It’s a risk I might take though. I haven’t seen him outside champs though so a lot of guys here will have better ideas than me.

I would want to be careful about going into a draft where everybody says so-and-so is the must-have player. Tom Boyd(2013), Paddy McCartin(2014) and Jacob Weitering(2015) were touted before the draft as the next big thing none has been exceptional. They have played a few good games but have performed well below what you would hope for from a number one pick. Selections from the draft should be made for your teams needs, not simply because others say player x is the best.

McCartin wasn't the stand out must have player of his draft. There was plenty of debate between him and Petracca and even Brayshaw late in the piece had a chance to go pick 1. It wasn't until a day or so before the draft that St Kilda committed to McCartin.

Don't care about express pace, as long as they're not slow. Elite foot skills or bust this year - someone with good vision and a low, penetrating kick an absolute priority for our first pick. Haven't had any time to follow this year's crop though, unfortunately.

philthy05 I note that Jacob Kennerley is from Cummins so should be zoned to Port Adelaide in a fair and just world ... which we know this is not.

If we did draft him and I nicknamed him Kerri-Anne how many people would know who I was talking about? :p

KAK would be better.

Outside of Rozee falling to our pick, i’d want Butters with our first

You rate him that highly? Where is he expected to go (as much as it’s really speculation right now)

What do you see in him? In giantroos videos which is pretty much all I’ve paid attention to I thought his vision and laterally movement was really good. Just changed direction and hit targets which is a plus for an outside player.

I think the mantra is the exact opposite. Use the draft to bring in best available, use the trade table to seek needs.

Playing footy in Central Australia you quickly realise there is no not fast but not slow, it’s if you’re not Fast you’re slow!

In AFL though there seems to be 3 sets: the top 10% with that extreme pace; a middle 50%; and a bottom 40% who are actually slow. So I'm more talking about not focusing on that top 10% of pace at the expense of foot skills.

A bit of both with the draft. Early picks (I'll classify for this as under 30) best available, but later picks are such a roll of the dice, unless there's a big slider you want, then needs late.

Out of this years draftees, who most resembles Isaac Smith?

Stefan Radovanovic maybe. I see a bit of Smith in someone like Zane Barzen. Matthew Green has a bit of Smith about him as well.

3 guys who I like with our 3rd round picks. May not be there but eh. Barzen is interesting. Country boy as well. Know much about his tac footy Macca? Like if he plays wing there or utility? Finds much of the ball at that level? I’ll have to ask about some of those guys on the d+t board they would see them a bit bar green.
