I am just basing my thoughts on how I rated them at the time. Then you add in McCartin's potential health issues, there were always too many red flags.

Just felt like a reach at the time.

Think a bit of that has to do with the fact that it goes to the shittest teams who are generally shit because they can't develop players. Additionally, quite a few number 1s have been KPPs who take longer to develop and also tend to get exposed more in poor teams.

From 92-06 the #1 pick was almost always a bonafide gun. Banfield, Gaspar, White, Johnstone, Gardiner, Headland, Riewoldt, Hodge, Goddard, Cooney, Deledio, Gibbs all won either premierships, AA's or BnFs.

Since then there seems to be circumstances with each of the #1 picks.

Eh. Sure in our first team. Our reserves, which is an indicator of what’s coming through was manned by short people this year with Trengove and atley the biggest. Drew is tall but injured and pretty far away. Farrell and Patmore are small or average.

Also depends on what you view as a flanker. We have a fair few defenders but very few capable forward flankers if anyone at all. Maybe Farrell if you view him as such. No monfries Tom lynch types available.
