thats not his fault. He was good today, again.

The lack of movement forward of the ball must do all the defenders heads in.
Yep, I agree. I do think what we spent on him has factored in to how he has been treated and the opportunities given to him in his career to date, though. He can footy, we saw so in 2020.

Which would be alright if we paid pick 40 for him.
That's why picks are a sunk cost fallacy. He was touted at that pick range. He's done OK when we needed him to be a superstar unfortunately but he keeps being judged at what we needed or expected.

Same as Jack silvagni, he is a good honest player gives 💯. It he's name dictates he is terrible.

They need to help us got 8+ playable players in this offseason.

  • Give us points to trade for Flanders to help GC match
  • Give us a pick to trade for Liam Henry
  • Give us a future pick to trade for Hunter Clark
  • Give us free access Sanders and Callinan
  • Give us pick 3 as McKay compo that we can use on Curtin

  • We draft McKercher at pick 2
  • We take Haynes in a salary dump to move the Port pick up to GWS' Himmelberg compo pick at ~11 that we can use on O'Sullivan or Archer Reid

Flanders, Henry, Clark, Haynes, McKercher, Sanders, Callinan, Curtin, A. Reid, Brayden George

10 players in. Clean out the mess. That is what we need.
if we pass on watson at pick 2 ill flip my shit.

I get it but he is one of our highest and longest paid players. And he is captain. Someone is letting someone down here. It’s either Luke or the Club. And I can see cases for both.
Yeh I agree with this. I suppose he's shown a "BnF" year - but wasn't elite that season we were terrible.

The captain we deserve, but not the one we need right now?

Not when that cost resulted in gifted games and following that an elevated standing in our club after being one of the few constants during a period of turmoil. If he weren't pick 8, do they throw him to tag in 2020 when he was at the crossroads or do they drop him?

I think that being captain outweighs the pick number, for me anyway. Needs to be better. He's courageous, yes, but courageous, hard at it footballers aren't necessarily leaders. Sometime that single minded focus on their own efforts, at the detriment of seeing the smart play, actually works against them.

Clubs stuffed up monumentally so often. Let's hope all the new people involved now don't make similar mistakes

Said it just before but your statment kinda reinforces it.

FWIW I wanted solo simpkin... but even then I wasn't convinced.

If we don't get a PP straight after our first pick then no team will be every able to ask for a PP again. We are as bad as bad can be and if the AFL aren't going to help us then they wont be able to assist anyone.
Corbin Bumcrack from the ABC or whatever posted the stat that I think needs to be the centre of whatever we are talking about here

In three of the past four seasons we have had losing streaks of at least 14 games

It's club killing stuff. One home game in Melbourne left and * supporters will easily out number us.

Stephenson is relatively young and up there in our goal kicking.
McDonald, who gives me the shits, won a BNF in that time, and isn’t old.
Goldy was left out at the start of the season and we had no other options.
Along with your ‘multiple PPs over the years’ comment, this doesn’t make much sense to me.
It's hardly fair if you're going to counter those wild incorrect claims with well reasoned and relevant facts!

GC 2019 3 wins 60% v NM 2023 2 wins 64%

Note that we have won all of those last 4 games by 10pts or less, including the West Coast COVID win.

We would already have had 2 more Sheezel / Wardlaws on our list had the old PP have been in operation.

The GC package was below.

So all of these picks PLUS pre-listing of all Suns Academy players.

We are way worse than they were, significantly.

Surely the pre listing of Sanders and a number of mid-first round picks are in order.

Particularly under the likely scenario we will lose one or two to Tassie later.

That is stark and a reality check - the club needs to do its job and put the case forward for how much we need the assistance.

And at the same time Drive accountability of standards at a completely unparalleled level over this pre-season to culture proof the future.

Admitting we need assistance isn’t a sign of weakness it’s a sign of strength that we will use any means necessary to improve our football club. It is ruthless in its own way and should be independent of the football dept.

An increase in soft cap and some absolute A List appointments in Development and S&C need to be made.

The footy dept needs to put up. There’s no more excuses. Every person needs to get better, be relentless, every single day.

Update:
Last 38 games we've lost:
18 by 8 goals +
13 of them by 10 goals +

Update
Last 39 games we’ve lost:
19 by 8 goals +
13 of the by 10 goals +

We should be requesting the same assistance package GC received, we are a bigger mess than what they were at the time.

Yes we are. Luke McDonald would have to be the worst Captain in VFL/AFL history.

And that not said lightly or with pleasure. It’s ****ing so sad

100%. We are arguably worse off than them - inferior win loss record, senior coach almost drummed out of them game on the basis of lurid unsubstantiated claims. And we know for us assistance is one and done right? Whereas the minute a GWS or a Suns falters the AFL will be falling all over themselves to proffer all manor or benefits. Whereas we are drinking in the last chance saloon with respect to assistance. I’d rest Jy, Wardlaw, LDU and anyone else with upside and niggles from here on in and make sure the narrative remains on our shitness.

Awful isn’t it? But we don’t make the rules and we’ve often been the victim of their shifting of the goal posts … this time we need to nail it down so we can’t be denied. If that means losing by 100 points plus every week then so be it.
