So am l hearing this right based on what cal said it’s looking possibly like dogs 10, 17 & maybe F1st vs us 11,14 and maybe next years Assistance end of first round for G C pick 5.
Can see the reasoning but if so is that a bit steep🤷‍♂️.
Agree, that’s a lot to give up for pick 5, Gold Coast making out like bandits with either of those trades. I’d rather hang on to the picks.

Gold Coast need points. Lucky for us 11 and 14 are worth more points than 10 and 17, so we’re in a good position. If the Dogs want to lose the plot and offer a future 1st then let them do it.

Thanks for the suggested outcome if it eventuates that’s better than what was being touted….hopefully we’re shrewd with the 11, 14.

I reckon we’ll be putting a bid on Walter at #2, as most pundits are saying he’s the 2nd best player in the draft. They are also saying that Duursma is the 3rd best.

If we get GC’s pick, then is there any reason why we wouldn’t take Duursma at #3 (he can play as a forward or a mid), Curtin at #4 and then Sanders at #6 (or McKercher/Watson if the Hawks take him at #5)?

Will the new CBA be in effect by the draft? I believe that I heard it will mandate that all 1st rounders need to remain at their club for at least 3 years. If that’s the case then we should not be concerned about Curtin being a flight risk. He’s the best KPB in the draft so why wouldn’t we back ourselves in to get it right over that period?

If we draft Duursma with a view to play him as a forward who pinch hits the midfield then we’d genuinely be strengthening all areas of the ground with him, Curtin and Sanders.

Many suggest that purely as a key backman, O'Sullivan is better than Curtin. This is why i would rather take O'Sullivan. Captain of the winning state team, best and fairest for that team as well. All the qualities you want in a draftee. Most experts rank him around 10th in the draft. I think he will end up going earlier than that.

I think Curtin will be a better rebounding back flanker than key defender. Some of his best football was played through the midfield also. He hasn't looked like a natural key defender at WAFL level imo.

We have a heap of mid sized forwards so i'd be happy to go without Duursma for that reason. We also have George who is basically going to be a new draftee for us next season as a forward who we have big wraps on.

I think McKercher as a hard running wingman offers our team more than Duursma. Over the past few months, McKercher and Sanders have been arguably the best, in form kids in the draft.

Thanks, that’s a solid analysis. McKercher definitely offers a point of difference compared to our current mids, so it would be beneficial to get a left footer with some polish. Like your comments about O’Sullivan too. He looked like a gun in the highlights that I saw of him, moves and uses it so well for a big bloke.

Is there any draft watcher who would take Sanders ahead of Watson or McKercher outright?

I've seen Sanders now ranked as high as 4th by draft experts whilst at the same time, Watson is sliding. So yes, i absolutely would. Sanders is the much safer bet with a high pick like that. Minimising risk with those high draft picks I think is crucial because if you get one wrong, it sets you back 12 months. So it would be McKercher and Sanders for me.

Not a fan?
Why is West Coast getting its knob polished and we’re doing the reach around for them?
They give up 1 to get 2 and 3? Madness

Is there an option for a 3-way deal where effectively NM/WC/GC walk away with:

WC - 2, 3
NM - 1, 5
GC - 11 (PP), 14, ++ ?

So we spend 2, 3, 11 and 14 for 1 and 5? 7,241 points out, 4,878 points in, difference is equivalent to pick 3. That is a high premium. GWS paid what, 3 and 12 to get 1 last year and got some other picks back.

I posted in another thread a potential trade with WC and GC.
If we get pick 4 from GC then between North and WC we have the top 4 picks. If nether pick Walter he goes at pick 5 rather than 2 which saves GC 600+ points.
Only trading pick 4 to us can achieve this outcome.

Trotter was like that and i think went pick 10. Then we marched the poor bugger out saying he was a future captain.
O'Sullivan is probably fine but the Capitan stuff rates naught for me.

I think you may have missed the post there old chum. It’s the dogs deal vs our deal for 4. We’d hold 3.
