I think with Tarrant & Higgins leaving to Richmond and Geelong, JHF leaving to Port after 1 year and McKay and Goldy leaving this year it should also tick the box that there is an issue with retaining players when you are in shitsville for too long.

That is the other major issue outside of being s**t, if you are there too long you can be caught in a doom spiral.

That’s a bit of a stretch. Teams lose players every year. Tarrant, Higgins and Goldstein were all well over 30 when leaving. They were all at the club for a long time and Higgins was a 3 club player. Our player retention has been incredible over the past couple of decades, considering we haven’t had much success.

Can’t say I agree.

Cats are looking likely to lose the Rat this year despite winning the GF the year prior.

Freo lost about 69 players last year despite finishing in the top 8.

GWS lost Taranto, Hopper and Bruhn last year! They’ve constantly been amongst the top 8 and played in a GF recently!

The Tigs famously lost a highly coveted fwd/ruck swing sing in CJ - probably why they missed finals this year.

We lost players aged over 30 because they see Father Time approaching and want to (rightly) bolster their superfund as life after footy can be extremely challenging.

McKay is the only one of genuine future value that is leaving North. And again, I’ve written this before, but he just wants a fat ass pay day. I don’t think he particularly cares what VIC club offers it. But he wants a long ass deal with a lot of zeros on the end. And fair play to him as well, he’s well within his rights to seek that.
