Disappointment is my expectation. I get asking for pick 3 and not getting it. But to turn going from pre lising Sanders, to nothing, from 11 instead of Sanders to 19, it's just continually getting kicked in the balls thinking we will get proper help.

Anyway, have no hopes and expectations and you'll never be disappointed. I half expect them to screw us with the McKay compo and next thing you know they will tell us to give the port pick to Geelong

The Afl want to remove the assistance packages alltogether and we are being used as the scapegoats to start this process off by lessening what you should get to what you might get ..

Personally I like that the new forms of equalisation assistance packages are no strings attached and all after the first round picks from other clubs. I think its a good approach moving forward.

If we want to trade all three of those picks for moving up higher then that's up to us - its certainly worth more than just pick 11.

Well, it would actually be 2,3,15,20 before bids.

My question is, when do point values get assigned? Does a potential pick 3 player trade comp and hawthorns natural pick 3 have the same trade value, or does the hawks get dropped in value. Do our end of first round picks get assigned a value at the point in time they occur during the draft, or at the pre-trade/draft stage? Do point values get lowered by F/S and northern academy bids?

Question questions.

FYI 2023 p19, 2024 p19, and p37 is in between pick 2 and 3 as a point value raw.
The value for points is always the same, if Hawthorns pick 3 slides back to pick 4 because of Ben McKay's compo pick, their points value is now the pick 4 value. This happens when matching bids for players. So if North bid for Walter at 2, GC match it then Hawthorns pick is now pick 5, the points value they have is pick 5.

I see.

So this is gold coast trying to chose their best deal for pick '4'.

I just hope that the AFL package gives us enough to get another top 10 talent this year (and some flexibility for next year). Either through the right kind of picks that would see us be able to trade up via a club that wants points, or just outright ****ing give us something. Pick 11, let us bid on our NGA lad, and a future second would be ideal.

Optimistic for sure, but I'm not paying heed to any of the doom and gloom media reports. I suspect they're fueled mostly by guestimation based on what other clubs have been saying behind our backs, though it wouldn't be unthinkable for Gil to be casually leaking shit.

On an unrelated note I was looking up the dates for when Tom Morris outed himself as a moron, and found this lovely snippet on his wikipedia.

If the rumours are true it’ll be nothing even close to this.

I love the narrative you get from some people.

“Why give the Roos a top pick. That’s the last thing they need to win games now”

Then sheezel wins the best and fairest

The one that really gets under my skin is “They’re going to get pick 3 for McKay so they don’t need another pick”

Completely ignoring the fact that we’re losing our best tall defender.

Yep we are losing a player that multiple other clubs chased, heck even Sydney were into him and they don’t usually chase shit players and we are being compensated for that loss with the Compo pick.

It has nothing to do with Assistance picks at all..

If anything it should strengthen our position for fair compensation, just like losing Lynch & May strengthened Gold Coast’s.

And if the AFL were smart they would keep in mind that we didn’t tank the last game, it would put doubt in the minds of other clubs thinking about tanking in the future.

What if we match and he stays, do we still get pick 3? :p

Remember when Carlton used a priority pick situation and a kid they got due to another priority pick to get Judd? No one complained then.

Need to be able to land Sanders with port pick.

Just makes it easier to smash any future JHF left North talk. Can easily shut it down with “yeah which landed us Wardlaw and Sanders”

It would be nice but Sanders will go top 5.
