I reckon you guys want Gaff bad and hence the pick upgrade to 5.

I have always said he reminds me of Dal Santo, but others reckon Power and he could be mix between Black and Power which are both in their twilight so a good fit for you guys.

Interesting, I was watching his videos again last night and noticed the same thing, I think Dal Santo aswell.

Geez Josh Green looks bloody amazing!

Kicked a couple freakish goals and showed great pace and skills in the draft combine video. Seems exactly what we need, hasn't been mentioned in the top25 much at all, would be stoked if we nabbed him with pick26:thumbsu: And afterall, everyone says you need a tasmanian and a ranga in order to be a successful club, with Green we'd be getting both:D

After going over Heppell and Gaff again, I'm really excited were getting one of them. Will both be stars for their respective clubs, I'd be very happy either way.

yeah he is a little beauty. I know the Lions are very keen on him and hence why they really want the sherman trade to the swans for pick 21 to go ahead

can someone clear something up for me that i have been wondering lately. if we delist a player do they have to nominate for the national draft or can they just do straight to the PSD. like with stevenson, can we delist him after someone has retired and tell him to go into the PSD where we will pick him up so he will be on the main list.

Yes we can. The afl is continually bending its already unclear rules all the time though so it wouldn't surprise me if in doing this we lost him to the gold coast. Also in essence i wouldnt be surprised if we actually retire/delist a couple of players post the national draft and then promote hams to the senior list as well.

In essence i can actually see a situation whereby we retire bones and hansen at list lodgement 3 and promote stevenson and hams at the same time so that we arent putting potential nuff nuffs onto the main list for two years. If we were to follow this path you could argue it as very good list management.

Such is the pity then if we go down that path we will have to run the gauntlet.

But we don't have to promote Hams. Stevenson we do, so why promote a player you don't have to? Now, if you were arguing on a needs basis, then that's a different argument.

Are we not allowed to upgrade Hams at the start of the season next year... Didn't we do that with Sullivan?

We were able to do that with sulli because we didn't have any veterans on the list this year. Next year we'll have two which will mean we won't have any open list spots to promote rookies before the start of the year.

To my mind hams is a known quantity and much better than some unknown draft youngster in the psd. As such if it was an option that would have been the path i would have taken. You are also correct it would partially be a decision based on list needs.

Makes sense, thanks.

Gaff looks good to me, clean and has a nice sharp kick on him.

Do you prefer Gaff over Heppell? Or someone else?

What's your thoughts on Brennan at the last pick?

It appears fairly unanimous that we will pick either Heppell or Gaff at 4.

I haven't seen much discussions on our later picks (apart from Brennan) - I am hoping for a quick, outside mid and the best tall available at #26 and #28 respectively.

From what I've seen Lamb looks perfect for us but unlikely to be available at 26.

Do you know if we are looking at anyone in particular?

andreoli and pitt i would think are possibilities

I was thinking about Hams the other day and how ridiculous it is that we won't be able to play him unless there is a long term injury or until the mid season rookie upgrade slot.

Hams played 2 games this year where he was in our best 3, Nicoski hasn't played a game like that in his entire career.

If Nicoski lines up in rd 1 I will shoot somebody...

took the time to watch the highlight reel of Gaff - as it seems we are going to select him.

Has a quality kick - albeit with that left footer hook style.

my only question is where he gets the ball - seemed to seagull a bit at half back.

then again it's only 4 minutes of footage - and it;s the only footage of any draftee i have seen!

Brad Wirra was talking up Cripps the other day

Have heard that name crop up a bit of late

He played a lot of his football during the championships off half back. and as half of the highlight videos are formed from championship footage i can see how it looks like he gets a lot of cheapies in the back half. that being said i haven't watched him enough playing in the midfield to truly say he doesn't get any cheapies.
He is the best accumulator in the draft and accumulators often do get cheap touches

Massivly outside with limited hurt factor, boning over a 2.88 20m sprint for an outside midfielder with average cruising speed isn't logical.

Heppell attacks the goal face and if he's going inside 50 then he's going to cause problems. He's hurts teams allot more.

Not at all sold on Heppell - yes it looks awesome when he breaks a tackle and kicks long, possibly to a target and possibly hit said target but what about the amount of times he tries to do too much and turns the ball over off half back or in the corridor - instant i50 for the opposition.

I don't see that happenning with Gaff, what I see with Gaff is a player who thinks (in this order) 1. do I have enough space to get the ball and dispose under low/medium pressure & 2. is my target either in the clear and able to hurt the opposition or is my target in front position and am I close enough to hit him on the chest (which he inevitably does)

Gaff is one of those players whose decision making is clear enough to set up players i50 with short kicks or to hit up running players through the corridor who can run/carry/kick long (Hurn/Sheppard/Smith/Shuey/Kerr types) so in that sense he has a high positive influence on the team and a very low negative influence.

What about in the future when Heppel hits all those targets. All players progress, they don't stagnate.
The scope is also important.
Which player will be the more damaging player in 5 years time.
