Would say a small forward is second on the list after midfielders. Yarran is very decent, has the capacity to play on a wing too.
Hmmm is he a good small fwd? Does he work hard enough without the ball? Genuine questions by the way, I always thought he looked best at half back...

If Carlton are as hot on Watts as some say, would a swap for Yarran be fair?

I'd rather let them have Watts for free. Yarran is the epitome of a pea heart. Who gets dropped for body language??

Firstly well done roos_fanatic08 You did a decent job except for leaving out Viney....and I agree that if we trade Watts we should aim for a first round pick rather than a player. I would prefer we get some decent picks to use to negotiate with GWS to get Adams if we cant get him in the PSD which i don't think we will. We then get to keep our top end pick at 2 (which i don't think we should trade at all) to be used on one of the drafts better mids.

Thanks mate. Have always had a soft spot for you guys and with you being one of the traditional Melbourne clubs I take no satisfaction in the down period you have had.

If jack watts want to leave I wouldn't take anything less than a top 15-16 pick. He is a KPP that will be
Coming into his prime over the next 2-3 years. While he hasn't set the world on fire he is still only a baby in key position terms. KP players are at a premium this year because the key position depth is absolutely terrible. If a team like Carlton or freo believe he (watts) will get them closer to a premeirship then they should have to pay accordingly.

Melbourne have the building blocks of an elite spine (Frawley, Hogan, Clark, Dawes ect) and if you can add two mids (Aish/Dumont/Acres) that can have an impact from day dot it will go along way towards you having a sustained period of success in 4-5 years time. But more importantly making you considerably more competitive from round 1 next year.

I really hope the club wait until the third week of the trade period before agreeing to a deal on Watts. Gotta let any demand drive his price up, rather than trading him for the first steak knives we get.

Or ideally he could sign with us...

I'm still content that Yarran would not be a bad addition to our squad. Perhaps he could have behaved better on field, but anyone that has seen him play would agree he would complement our top heavy forward line tremendously well.

His pace and footskills would be very handy.
However, if the club is in full-blown rebuild mode, especially rebuilding the culture of the side, I'm not sure if he'd fit.

Should we be grant a priority pick (big if). Would like to see the following trades resulting in this lineup for round 1, 2014.

B: Garland, Frawley, Terlich
HB: Grimes, McDonald, Aish
C: Adams, N.Jones, Viney
HF: Freeman, Dawes, Watts
F: Clark, Hogan, Trengove
R: Gawn, Sloane, Sylvia
Int/Emg: Hartung, Toumpas, Howe, Barry, M.Jones, Z Jones, Blease, Kent, Clisby, Fitz, Spencer, Jarrah etc

Trades
Priority Draft pick 1 for GWS pick 2 and there comp pick 10.
Draft pick 2 - James Aish. Best midfielder available.
Draft pick 3 trade - Rory Sloane (Adelaide).
Draft pick 10 - Nathan Freeman
2nd round draft pick - Billy Hartung
3rd round draft pick - Zac Jones
PSD - Adam$ (GWS). Expect/hope our club is ruthless in gaining his services thru PSD. eg: same as GWS with Scully/his dad.
FA - Best available. (Dal Santo/Cross - Then bring in young midfielders over 1 or 2 years) - to replace (Watts/Sylvia) if they go. Who knows ?
Rookie draft - Jarrah. (Davey - poss full time job there). Cover for KPF's and if Watts departs.

Mine updated:

Free agency:
Colin Sylvia - Required player going on stats, but attitude is not much better than Watts. Top teams would love him.

Trade:
Jack Watts - While he still has currency, not working at the MFC.
James Magner (r) - Trade, someone will take him.

Sign:
Mitch Clisby (r) - Give him 2 years to prove himself.

De-list:
Tom Couch (r) - Not up to it. Good VFL player.
Tom Gillies - Not up to it.
Troy Davis - Not up to it.
Nathan Stark (r) - Poor guy.
Joel MacDonald - Retiring.
Aaron Davey - Retiring.
Dean Rodan - Lost without Davey.
Shannon Byrnes - pay out

So with Mitch Clisby and Magner going on to the senior list, that means 6 pick-ups to the main. Hogan goes on to the normal list too.

Get Dale Thomas as restricted free agent
Get Dustin Martin with Watts and picks swap

Priority pick?
Round 1: Best available mid
Round 2: Best available mid
Round 3: Best available mid

Dreaming. But that would make for a ball tearer of a side.

No to Yarran for me.
Swapping a soft tall for a soft medium makes no sense.
We need to build a decent culture and Yarran does not bring much to that table.
Robinson is harder but surrounded by ordinary players would also struggle.
Would rather take my chances with their top draft pick.

I can't believe that any Melbourne supporter would want to trade Watts for the biggest down hill skier in the comp, being Yarran.

He is the last bloke I would want brought into our club in the current climate. We need blokes that can win their own footy, take players with them and say this is how its done & follow my lead/example, they need to be leaders on and off field, high character people and Yarran ticks none of those boxes.

Yarran has skill, dont get me wrong but he would be a massive mistake if brought into the club!!!!

*Revised* What I hope could happen:

Free agency:
Sylvia - Sign him up! I know it's frustrating seeing his talents in bits and pieces, but we can't afford to lose him. Disappointed to see many on here concede that he is out the door and not required, he has had a commendable couple of years!

Cross - If the Bulldogs tell him he is not required, which I suspect they will, give him a year to prove himself. Has had an illustrious career, and can hopefully instill good training habits onto our young uns.

Trade:
Watts - Really want him to stay. Still have high hopes of him, but if he elects to go then so be it. Best case scenario, we get a Top 10 draft pick and forward it on to GWS for Adams.

Anthony Miles - Hard nut from GWS who can't crack the senior side. Still very young who I think we can get as steak knives with Adams.

Laidler/Duigan - Two decent backmen on the outer, who we can nab for next to nothing. Yes, we ****ed up royally with our mature age recruits last year, but I think these two won't go down the same path if offered an opportunity. Laidler is still young enough to improve whilst Duigan, is hard as nails with brilliant leadership qualities. 3rd rounder perhaps?

Pick 1 (PP) - Really fancied the suggestion above for Pick 2 and 10 from GWS. Win win for both clubs I reckon.

Draft:
2 - Aish
3 - Kelly
10 - Sheed
2nd Rounder - Dunstan
4th Rounder - Promote Magner

Assuming Stark and Couch are moved on...
The best available 4 mature age players in the state leagues.

2014...

FB: Garland, Frawley, Laidler
HB: Grimes, McDonald, Terlich
C: Trengove, N.Jones, Adams
HF: Sylvia, Dawes, Howe
FF: Hogan, Clark, Blease
R: Jamar, Viney, Cross
I: Toumpas, M.Jones, Duigan

Depth: Clisby, Gawn, Fitzy, Magner, Rodan, Taggert, Barry, Miles, Dunstan, Kelly, Aish, Sheed

So tl:dr version...
IN: Pick 2, 10, Taylor Adams, Anthony Miles, Daniel Cross, Jeremy Laidler, Nick Duigan
OUT: Pick 1, Jack Watts, 3rd Rounder

Draft: Aish, Kelly, Sheed, Dunstan
