AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Would be very surprised if Swans did that deal. I just don't see a benefit for them in it. 2 future 2nds in next year's draft doesn't seem as highly valued as a pick anywhere in the first round of this year.Very Very likely Eagles trade into the top 25 to get Luke Trainor. I imagine we basically trade 2 F2nds to get Swans pick 19 to grab him (think he lasts that long)
Swans will need future draft points for 2025 it seems. Lachlan Carmicheal is a top 10 pick and Noah Chamberlain probably a top 20 . Will need a few extra picks to get them both doneWould be very surprised if Swans did that deal. The history of clubs "reaching" for "bolters" who rocketed up the draft board in the second half of their top age u18 year and were taken top 5 includes Pendlebury, Bont and Clarry.Good morning Stavro
Fair bit of wishful thinking going on here.
No way Melbourne are not taking a mid. They need mids more than anyone.
If North want Tauru with our first we will take St Kilda's offer of 7 + F1 for 2 - which is what I hope we do.
However, we have consistently said we only want to slide back two or three spots, ie. not out of the range of the top tier mids. The slide to 4 would give us an extra f2 and allow us to use our F1 + F2 to try and trade back into this draft for a tall. This is the stuff of my nightmares, but it is what I think we are doing. Any chance you guys could sweeten your offer a tad to save the day?
I would absolutely LOVE to see Sam Power’s response if he got a call from Andrew Mackie on draft night re: Pick 17If we try to trade up to the late teens or 20s my bet is its for hotton (we seem to have this fascination with multiple positions utilities who have been undervalued due to injury) or a kpf like shanahan or Whitlock (or maybe gerryn depending on where we trade in). We need a kpf more than a ruck.
I'm happy to take him, an extra gun mid is a luxury rather than a need for us. But we don't need to take Tauru at 2 or 4, and I doubt we are even considering that. We have an offer to trade back to 7, we should take that. The history of clubs "reaching" for "bolters" who rocketed up the draft board in the second half of their top age u18 year and were taken top 5 includes Pendlebury, Bont and Clarry.
If you draft Tauru, you'll be getting a bloke with wow factor who is making rapid development. It won't be a bad selection.
I don't think you can say with any certainty they would have gotten band one if they'd had an earlier pick.Saints beating the Blues in that meaningless Final H&A game cost them effectively pick 5 and ability to have got an elite rated mid.
I wouldn't rule out Melb at 5 or Tiges at 6 and I wouldn't be fully confident that Saints made the offer or that it stands.I'm happy to take him, an extra gun mid is a luxury rather than a need for us. A bit of a selective sample there. There are plenty of draft bolters who didn't work outThe history of clubs "reaching" for "bolters" who rocketed up the draft board in the second half of their top age u18 year and were taken top 5 includes Pendlebury, Bont and Clarry.

Melbourne aren't taking him, they need mids. But I have no idea what Richmond are planning. If one of those teams do reach, it probably means someone we rate just as high has slid. We take them instead, or trade down again for Armstrong or Shanahan. Either way, we would still be better off than either using pick 2 or 4 on a surplus mid or Tauru. I know you rate Tauru in the top few, but I doubt North do.I wouldn't rule out Melb at 5 or Tiges at 6 and I wouldn't be fully confident that Saints made the offer or that it stands.
No certainty, sure, but that win did cost them Pick 5 at the end of the day, which Im sure they would rather have.I don't think you can say with any certainty they would have gotten band one if they'd had an earlier pick.
The AFL will do what they do.

Melbourne's no.1 priority should be a Key Forward, which doesn't necessarily have to be Tauru but could be. I thought it was reported North doesn't want to trade down to as low as pick 8 so knock back the pick 8 + F1 from the Saints unless they think Melbourne is interested in Tauru since May is close to retirement?Melbourne aren't taking him, they need mids. Yep, there would be no guarantees at 7 but I’d say it’s likely. At 2 or 4 it would be guaranteed so depends on whether North want him at all costs or are ok if they miss him.Melbourne aren't taking him, they need mids. Not sure they have given up on Jefferson and Kentfield just yet.Melbourne's no.1 priority should be a Key Forward, which doesn't necessarily have to be Tauru but could be. Aside from JVR their forward stocks are bang average
Maybe, but if they go with Tauru at 5 they could still get one of Lalor, FOS, Smith, Draper, Smilie, Allan, Reid, Langford at 9 (I just listed 8 mids to say that one of them get to 9, not necessarily meaning Lalor will be there at 9 ).They will use pick 9 to get a tall. No chance they pass on a mid at pick 5.

Jefferson and Kentfield's ceiling are far lower than the likes of Tauru and Armstrong. If that's what they're putting their money on then that's not the best list management decision. FWIW, I thought before the trade period that they would try have multiple picks inside top 20 to manage some of their deficiencies. But they've lost Brown as a back up so if they want to make finals next year they need another tall for sureNot sure they have given up on Jefferson and Kentfield just yet.
The Dees have lost a pile of mids over the last two years and there are question marks over their two stars. Taylor has even told supporters they'll be targeting mids. Can't see them doing anything else.
Do you really think that if Melbourne were to draft a tall they would be even close to ready to make an impact next season?Jefferson and Kentfield's ceiling are far lower than the likes of Tauru and Armstrong. I reckon Smillie and Armstrong would be a better combo then Tauru and AllanMaybe, but if they go with Tauru at 5 they could still get one of Lalor, FOS, Smith, Draper, Smilie, Allan, Reid, Langford at 9 (I just listed 8 mids to say that one of them get to 9, not necessarily meaning Lalor will be there at 9 ).
They are also keen on Allan who is likely to be there at 9
Jefferson has the natural ability to make it, and will play AFL this coming season - how much is the question. Very talented but still question marks regarding the level of intensity he plays with. Not sure they have given up on Jefferson and Kentfield just yet.

Sounds like they are all in on him so wouldn’t do that trade as the risk is there.
It’s ballsy from North, but I like the fact they have identified a player and are all in on him. I hope it pays off for them.
