Interesting question - Swift and Maten were highly rated but under performing for WC. Anyone know anything about them?

I remember how massively rated Swift was at the start of his career. Shame he didn't turn out that way really.

As DaM said, will most likely be for their third rounder.

I think the plan is to use 2 or 3, depending on list spaces.

If we do the trade, get 28 for Ebert the Dogs may get lucky and score our second rounder.

The only query I have on Hill is his lack of contested ability, which is crucial to our forward line setup.

He is actually a good contested mark, just doesn't seem to have that killer instinct to attack the ball too often.

Hawks after Jarod Boumann?!??

He plays for Box Hill, so wouldn't be surprised if they looked at him.

Im sure he wont make it though. He just showed nothing at all with us.
It would be interesting to see how far he has come.

AFL have said no to any deal that would return O'Meara or any other 17yo this year returned to them via draft/trades.

No they didnt, they said no to THAT deal.

"The Giants haven't been altogether ruled out of trading into the mini-draft, with Anderson stressing that it was only Tuesday's proposed trade that had been knocked back."

The AFL want GWS trade away the mini draft picks and in no way want them to keep the players that are picked with them.

These Adrian Anderson quotes are pretty clear cut.....

"It wasn't designed to just leave them with more young players. It was designed to give them currency to trade."
The AFL went as far as scouring the minutes of the original meeting to set up the GWS establishment.
"Having seen what was proposed, we just weren't of the view that it amounted to a genuine on-trade," Anderson said. "It was more of a mechanism for those picks just to go back to GWS.
"It's very clear looking back ... that the clear intent was that they be required to trade those picks and for that to give them access to other picks and players to help them be competitive."

This tells me there is no way O'Meara will make his way to GWS.

hill + dogs second rounder to west coast, ebert to port, ports second rounder to dogs

all this speculation of trading B-graders for fringe players for potentials. ugh.

here's my piece of sepculation - adam cooney. a degenerative knee condition means that his best IS behind him. he still has considerable currency though. what do people think about floating him around and seeing if another club is willing to take a gamble on the future of his knee, and getting something worthwhile in return (early draft pick). trading second tier players isn't likely to gain us much ground & our mob has a neat history in offloading brownlow medalists.

If we start throwing Cooney's name around the table every other club is going to know his knee is more bung than first thought. This would be reduce his currency significally.

I know it's a business and threw up questions about Cooney's future during the season but I'd have a bitter taste in my mouth if we off loaded him.

The club need to Be careful writing Cooney's body off so early in his career. It could bite us on the arse.
Greg Denham reported this morning (SEN) that we are shopping Cooney around for the "right price". Not confirmed, just his opinion based on what he has heard. KB replied that Stevie Johnson was offer to the Pies for a 2nd round pick because "his ankles were shot and he would never be the same again". The trade didn't happen.........The Cats dodged a bullet!

in other news...

We're likely to get nothing for Huddo if he goes to Brisbane in the pre-season draft. He will be delisted according to the reports on Oct 31st which makes him fair trade for any club.

Not sure this was a wise move to delist him so eagerly.

we have to delist him on oct 31st unless we want him on the list in 2012

I would back Coons going to GWS for a huge paycheck for a couple of years. Before he retires early due to his knee. That would be a win for player and both clubs.
