Nothing official, but I've heard you guys shut us down in the week earlier.

Still think we should be in his ear about home cooked means and the like. But I've not heard anything for a while.
And plus, we won't give up a First Round player
and i heard that he was already signed for next year or something

ESSENDON is believed to have launched a bid to lure Gold Coast midfielder Josh Caddy back to his home state.

The Bombers hope to trade for the Brisbane Lions' end of round one compensation pick, received last year for the loss of Michael Rischitelli to the Suns.

If there is a chance to get Caddy, we should go for it, and go for it hard. We have a compo pick already, we will have one soon from Sam Reid as well.
I hope we do this. Very powerful young player, just the kind we will be needing.

Caddy doesn't have a great outside game, he's much more inside.

I think Trent McKenzie fits into our needs much better.

Yeah, but the chance for getting Mckenzie is a lot lower :p. We are going to need another 1 or 2 inside mids in the next couple of years, so Caddy would be a good get, imo.

Tell me about him.
Bombers have pick 19 and an end of round 1 compo pick.
We have pick 17 and a mid round compo pick, plus sam reid compo

We could trump them if Caddy wanted to come to us, but what chance our footy department has spoken to anyone?

How many inside midfielders do we need?

Boyd, Cross, Libba, Wallis, Addison and a future father son in Hunter. We are hardly in need of an inside mid and I definitely can't agree we should be going hard for one. If we want another one, go to the draft. There's plenty there.

We should be going hard for run and carry types, not inside midfielders.

Ive kind of gone off this inside/outside mid thing.

Guys who can win a contest and use the ball by hand or foot, thats what we need.

Outside midfielder is just a name for a player that is a good kick but cant win contests, and inside mid is a name for a slow mid that cant kick.

If your midfield is full of fit, hard buggers that can kick, you dont have to worry about whether they are 'inside' or 'outside' or what proportion of each you have.

I can't agree, you need a proportion of each.

Where does the run and spread come from?

We have a guy named Ryan Griffen who does this alright. As well as a couple of young guys in Tutt and Dahlhaus who may do the same in the future.

Easton Wood could end up a midfielder one day too.

EVERYONE!

Where are geelongs pure outside midfielders? Varcoe? OK, and hes the least effective of the midfield group. All the rest play whatever role the immediate situation demands.

If this Caddy can win a contest and use the ball by hand and foot then I dont care what his official designation is.

Fair call.

On Caddy, he's not bad by hand or foot. He is prone to missing targets though especially by hand. He's very good in the contested stuff and he's elite at the clearances. He's pretty good up forward too, a bit like Bartel in that he's a very good mark.

cheers

Id like to see us bring in some more potential midfielders that have some pedigree. What about mcAffer? comes from a decent system, and has played in 2 grandfinals (in the same year!)

Boyd - 28ish.

Cross - 29, slowing up, will he be in our best 22 in 2013, even late 2012??

Libba - very good signs

Wallis - poor 1st year, long way to go.

Addison - delist material.

Hunter - is he an inside mid? had heard he was a flashy HF type.

Agree we need outside mids, but losing Ward & Reid means we need some inside types too.

Apart from swapping Boyd and Crosses ages and saying that I've heard both things (that he is a flashy HFF type and an inside mid) about Hunter (I don't know which is true:confused:) I agree with this post.

I thought I wrote we aren't in big need of an inside mid, not we don't need one. Hmm anyway. Your right in saying we need them but I don't think it's high priority. I place running backs, tall defenders, outside midfielders and even a good ruckman ahead of inside midfielders. I don't think we should chase Caddy, like I said we should use the draft.

On Hunter, earmarking him as an inside midfielder may not be correct. He's smart and quick enough to play a number of roles. He can play half forward, half back or through the midfield as an inside or outside midfielder. His skills by foot really need to improve to play these roles well at the minute though. IMO his best position is in the midfield.

Quayle tweets that Suns want two compo picks for Caddy.

With Reids compo, we will have two. Could do worse than make a play for him - he wants to come back to Vic, so why quibble over Dogs or Essendon?

is he really worth that much? how good is he really? can someone tell me more about the kid?

they only want two picks because essendons pick is at 19 and they are getting an end of first round pick. But surely just our ward compo would trump both of these together. caddy was taken at pick 7 and its reasonable to think that with an ageing list we will finish low enough for the ward pick to be worth more than that sometime over the next 5 years. Also caddy wants out of there and hes been injured all year so if anything we should be getting him and a second or third round pick just for the ward compo. Id love to go after him, but if they ask for more than the ward compo I think we should just go to the draft.

should we be trying to lure tommy walsh. he looked very good in the nab cup at CHB and I've heard he can play forward as well. hes young, talented, wants out of st kilda and lake and morris are definitely getting on. i know we want talia, but really we need more than just one young key defender so there's no reason not to get both. walsh is also ready to play now so he could slot in immediately. I would definitely prefer walsh to bate. But would our second round pick get it done? I'd be happy to offer up the reid compo or whatever we get for huddo as well.

Walsh has already been traded to Adelaide.

Caddy wants to come to melb, and has nominated bombers - Melbourne has shown that coming over the top with a better offer can work.

Caddy - I want to go to bombers for compassionate reasons - my dad!
GC- Dogs have offered us more, youll still be in melbourne, and you are still contracted
Caddy - err, but, umm... fair enough I suppose

What would do it - pick 17 and Reids compo pick? All bombers have is pick 19 and a player at the moment.

Lets do this thing

should we have a look at mccaffer? is he better than bate?
Maccaffer seems to be one of the players who benefited from collingwood being really good. It's sort of similar to how Peake and Ray look good when St Kilda are playing well. So I can't really see him performing to the same level for us.
