Draft Winners and Losers

Yeah, but you made up the narrative about why Carlton traded up and that we panicked and chose Smith. Watch our war room videos and you will see how hell bent we were on Smith as soon as we landed pick 3.

That part has nothing to do with evaluating winners.
I have watched the war room videos

Not completely sold they where as authentic as you do

But in any case let’s see how this all plays out

Don't be so down. Somebody's gotta be this generation's Matthew Knight, Wayne Campbell and Richo!
We can only dream that they will reach the incredible heights of brownless and bairstow and couch and jhe Clarke and bowes

This is about setting up the next dynasty though not making prelims . Cause if you don’t win, you might as well finish last

You could see how nervous and excited Austin was. There is no reason to doubt him.

I think if you had 7 first round picks you'd be calling it a super duper draft.
Ask the professionals , not me.
No professional thinks it’s a super draft. The draft was commended for its depth, not its top end. People got carried away with the hype.

Stange. I heard multiple experts call it that in the lead up....

Its no surprise a fan of the team that didn't get a pick till 47 would want to talk it down though.

Not really.

This one was commended for it's quality, unsure why you're saying it wasn't?
For its depth, but not its top end quality. Ask any draft expert, they’ll tell you at least 3 players last year would have gone #1 this year (Reid, Walter, McKercher). A few top 10 selections would not have gone top 10 in recent years.

This draft was known as not having many topline/ star talent but having a very good group of players all the way out to 30ish. It's a good draft to go heavy in for that reason.

Just on this. It's been debated ad nauseam on our board, but we don't just need mids. We needed a mid from that top 7, one that can come in and play day 1 and make a difference. When they went before our pick, why grab any mid, we have a heap on the list already.
I scratched my head at people saying this.

Why would they Draft a mediocre midfielder over a gun that plays another position? That would have been strange.

Especially considering the kids from this Draft realistically will barely even get a game next year, let alone make a significant impact.

Why should a person be in there if it's not on merit? Very dangerous path to go down.
Do you think everyone in those rooms was in there 'on merit'?

What merit is required to sit there in a room full of people and watch whilst a decision that has already been made is announced?

Exactly. Our board went into a bit of a meltdown a few drafts ago when we picked a kid called Wanganeen-Milera, over the mid we supposedly needed, in Ben Hobbs, and a lot of them were then demanding we pick “two mids” with our first two picks this year.

We need elite talent above anything else and you’ve got to take what you can get when you can get it.

Regardless, the club and Travaglia both seem super-confident that he’ll play permanent midfield down the track, so only time will tell.

I don't love all of Richmond's selections but think they got the best Key Forward in Armstrong for a steal.

They also fleeced West Coast, North Melbourne and Gold Coast in the period.

Dangerous?

Why?

What’s gonna happen?

Nuclear war?

Cracks start opening up in the ground while people are just going about their daily business walking down the street because a female club staffer was in the room with 10 other guys while a pre-determined announcement was made at the most over-publicised event in Australian sport?
