Sidebottom - Didak

Just that they both are Duel Sided players and can change a Game by themselves

Beams - ?

Don't really know who he compares too. Could someone have a go at this

Blight - Cox

Just that he is Skinny and is Similar Height too Cox but Blight looks like he can fill out more than Shannon. Both could play the Rebounding Defender

Rounds - Cook

Both could be Wingman as more Outside players who will use there speed and Footskills.

Francis - Shaw

Just they can play as Rebound Back Pockets.

Blair - OBree

They will just pretty much be Clearance Players who hopefully can win the Ball 1st for us

Bennell - Davis

Just reminds me of a Young Davis as Small Crumbing Forward who can kick a Goal from anywhere and Just be an Excitement Machine

Keeffe - Wood

Both 204cm Tap Ruckman with very similar body shape.

Reed - Goldsack

Simmlar Body Shape and Would play the Similar Position

What are your thoughts and What changes would you make?

From the little that I know, I'd say that Beams would be most similar to O'Bree, and more so than Blair.
That was one I also thought of Swan and Stanley and even Bit like Lockyer

Blair reminds me of Cameron Wood, with a hint of Chris Dawes. Sidebottom reminds me more of Sean Rusling than Didak, because he has a 2 in his number.

Well to be honest there is always a need for stupidity in my books.

But I'd rather think that our draftees can bring something new to the team, rather than comparing them to players on our list already. Sidebottom reminds me a tad of Jimmy Bartel. There is one.

I agree with the Sidebottom/Bartel comparison.

Beams has a bit of Pendlebury about him. Quite smooth, uses his hands well to set up players in close. Bit of a harder edge than Pendles though.

I don't like to compare draftees to our current players, because you'd like to think we've drafted what we need, not what we already have, Dave. Plus, theres no way knowing what they'll be like if we haven't seen them play at AFL level, so I'd say this is more of a 'I wish....' than a 'It is....'

But if you wanted to try it, with AFL players, I'd have to say...

Steele Sidebottom = Dane Swan - Inside or outside midfielder, has goal-kicking ability, speed is deceptive (in my eyes), great footy brain, pure footballer.

Dayne Beams = Scott Burns - Another pure footballer, absolutely killer clearance player, goes at the footy hard, genuine inside midfielder.

Jarrad Blight = Tadhg Kennelly - Not so small rebounding defender who really isn't a midfielder, simply a hard-running backman capable of emulating a midfielder from between the defensive 30 metre line to the wing. Loves to take the opposition on.

Luke Rounds = ?????????

Tristan Francis = ??????????

Jaryd Blair = Greg Williams - The size dictates his style of play, so its only natural that everyone is going to mention names like Kerr, Libba, Harvey ect. because he is not an athlete, he won't play in the backline, he won't play as a KPP, so it'll need to be as a hard-running midfielder/inside midfielder similiar to Williams. I'd love to have another Boomer though.

John Bennell = Stephen Milne - Talented small menacing forward capable of being a spearhead goal-kicker. Also has the ability to pull out a ripper, and capable of running in the midfield for a small period of time, or across HBF/BP.

Luke Rounds is a bit like Chance Bateman.
Would you be able to explain that bit more please because I can't quite see what you mean Didaka

Sidebottom most like Swan: Also quite close to O'Bree in terms of scrappy but effective inside work and pace, but is a better kick than O'Bree and plays a hard running outside game with goal kicking nous similar to the Great Dane.

Beams most like Pendlebury: Is an inside "plucker" like Pendlebury (and the reason why Wiz didn't rate either of them especially highly) in that he is not a "bee-line for the ball" inside mid, but rather deftly plucks the ball from in contests. Is slightly harder at it and slightly less polished than Pendlebury, but will be a player.

Blight most like Thomas: Strange comparrison, because of the 5cms height difference and Blight wouldn't have anywhere near the X-factor as Thomas around the goals, but in terms of kamakaze strong marking outside of their height division, pace, clean hands off the carpet, great handball vision and the propensity to take on opponents of any pace, run around them and kick long to advantage (albeit sometimes scrappy).

Rounds most like Barham: Very quick linking mids who run hard and fast and kick long, but often without great accuracy. But are likely types who IMO, if they are to make it, it will likely be as a small defender.

Brown most like Gary Pert: Both slow key defenders.

Francis most like Stanley: Hard at it midfielder who can tackle. Ok kick and a bit slow. Both up against it.

Blair most like Lockyer: Short rookie selection who despite stature is a decent footy player. Both good kicks and can play on the ball.

Bennell most like Davis: The most obvious. Fast gun who can do the impossible, but usually very erratically. Like Davis, it may take him 5-6 years to extract the digit and be consistent. But his good spurts will keep him high on the love list of many supporters.

Keefe most like Wood: Not much other choice here. They are a similar height and looked vaguely similar in the VFL last year.

Reed most like Goldlebury: He is like the Sack in defence, BUT he is a more refined model who is capable of playing midfield...at which point he is more similar to Pendlebury.

Francis most like Stanley: Hard at it midfielder who can tackle. Ok kick and a bit slow. Both up against it.
Actually Francis tested well for speed and it was about the same as Daisy but That was a Very Good Write Up FIGJAM:thumbsu:

Low to the ground type who can run the lines as well as get in dirty if needed.

This may not be the role he starts off with though.

Sidebottom - Didak

Just that they both are Duel Sided players and can change a Game by themselves

Dids can Dave but let's wait 'til Sidey actually gets a game before we call his game-changing capabilites.

Blight - Cox

Just that he is Skinny and is Similar Height too Cox but Blight looks like he can fill out more than Shannon. Both could play the Rebounding Defender

He'll be lucky to "fill out" to match Cox. Coxy is a naturally big, strong bodied boy.

Yep, agree with that, and it's also why I just luuuuuuuuuuuuuurve the Sidebottom/Bartel comparison. :D

Steele Sidebottom = Jimmy Bartel - Predominately inside mid who runs to the right spots, one-paced but racks up the contests. Bartel's more inside, Rusty is a better user by foot.

Dayne Beams = Simon Black - Neither is particularly quick, but both are strong over the ball and excellent extractors of the pill. Again, Black is more inside than Beamer.

Jarrad Blight = Brendon Goddard - Perhaps more in terms of the role they play though. Goddard's kicking is more of a feature as it is as accurate as it is long. Blight will run and carry more in that quarterback role, but his footskills are also very penetrating. Both are tough as nails and strong overhead for their size.

Luke Rounds = Jed Adcock (?) - Man I'm really struggling to come up with a physical comparison, but hopefully Rounds will develop into a similar player off a half-back flank, although he may be used on a wing. Adcock was used more in midfield in 2008 and is more inside than Rounds at this stage. Both are pacey, with Rounds being quicker and the two are similar in their ball use IMHO.

Tristan Francis = Beau Waters - Compact small defenders/mids who take the angry pills. Francis is probably a little quicker over the ground, and does more of the one-percenters but doesn't win as much of his own ball as Waters. (N.B. I've seen very little of Francis' play, mostly going off the video here).

Jarryd Blair = Shaun Hart - Had to go back in time to find what I think is an adequate comparison. Has a few tricks and strong through the core, good footskills and quick without being lightening. Blair is more of a clearance midfielder but both are/were very committed.

Johnny Bennell = Leon Davis - Has already been covered extensively.

Scott Reed: I think FIGJAM's description was perfect. :thumbsu:

^^^

Great Effort would be great if the top 3 can be like Bartel,Black and Goddards

Well Rounds was likened to Boak by Gary Hocking
