Walker had some big moments in the last 90 seconds.

He kept the ball alive in the pocket to help us rebound down the other end (I think we scored a passage or two later).

And he didn’t lose the marking contest or infringe against Bobby Hill in the Pies final i50.

He’s developed heaps since the 2022 semi against Collingwood

Watched the last quarter again, Wagner was amazing. Can we get by playing the extra half back and dropping Draper?

Also, kudos to Darcy and Switta who had rough games but were crucial in that last charge.

Heath Chapman is getting back to his best. An amazing talent.

I'd be dropping Walters and Emmett and bringing in Freddie and either Sturt or Voss. Please may Sturt make a statement playing for Peel tomorrow.

His game tonight and his development this year are a huge positive for the club. A lot to like tonight.

Chapman is playing very well through all four quarters and then doing the occasional amazing thing where you wonder how he won a contest.. or that mark in the fourth before his pass to Pearce for the goal. All guts, athleticism and class.

Jye needs a spell in the twos before he’s completely broken
I noticed tonight how often Amiss was double teamed in marking contests, usually with Moore and one other. He had little chance of even bringing the ball to ground let alone marking it.

I’m wondering if we need to reconsider Tabs (if and when fit). Play Jye more half forward so that he can see more of the ball and not have to attract the best defender.

Some good:
  • Banfield's goal kicking. How he is the best goal kicker on the team at the moment is a head scratcher, but keep it up, Banners.
  • Sharp's a gun. We lost langdon and replaced him with acres. We lost acres and replaced him with Henry. We replaced him with Sharp and he hasn't missed a beat. He may even be the best of the lot when it's all said and done. Lesson here is trust the list management. They know what they're doing. If he would have slotted that last goal he'd be the hero of the match.
  • Clark continues to be one of our most important players. As I predicted (pats self on back) in the preview thread, Sharp and Clark were the team's heartbeat.
  • Ball movement. We were not consistent, but we had a lot of excellent handball chains and ball movement through the corridor. Our lack of execution and skill errors are what let us down.

Some bad:
  • Skill errors. Missed handballs, s*** kicks, and poor choices were our biggest weakness today. The good news is that we're not always that bad and this can be corrected.
  • Go ahead and throw hate on me, but I think Sonny needs a break. He just flops around and doesn't keep his feet. My 15yo son does this in soccer too. I tell him, if you fall on the ground, you give the other team the advantage. Sonny needs to keep his feet and bring some toughness to the contest. ATM, he's bringing almost nothing in terms of production. I'm very frustrated with him.
  • Our contest work. Usually we're good inside, but I thought we got sucked into the contest and had 2-4 people clustered around the ball and the pies were able to pop it outside and take off. We did most of the chasing and they did the driving.
  • Darcy looked out of shape and slow. He's a long way back. I wonder if we should have went with Jacko as the #1 ruck? But, I guess if we don't give Darcy a chance to play and improve his fitness, he'll never be right. I just thought he looked like exactly what he was: A guy who's been in and out of the side with injuries.
  • Goal kicking. What's wrong with Amiss? ugh.
  • Pierce's goal. So huge. So happy for him after the last couple weeks he's had dealing with Cam's passing.

So, in the end, I would say that's a proper result. We had moments where we dominated and others where the Pies were on top. We should have lost but had the game been 2 min longer, maybe we win. If Sharp kicks the goal, we win. Take the two points and on to the next week.

Heeney is one of my all time favourite players (my fave opposition player) and you are correct.

I remember Serong had a break out first year, but his second year he slumped a bit. We keep forgetting he is only a year older than Harley Reid and he has so much pressure on him this year. I agree with JLo when he said that too many people are getting in his ear and confusing him.

One day it's just going to click,
Need to do things to help make it happen. Don't leave it to chance. In the meantime of course gather round him.

Heh. When you look at the play against Hill, looks like a free to Hill tbh

Banfield and Clark both A graders. Would be happy to take either off your hands. 😄

We are starting to sound like a broken record in regards to Walters and Emmett but for christ sake we can not keep carrying them. If we are going to carry 2 small forwards then bring in Simpson and Delean and let them learn on the job.

I haven't read through the thread so I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it but Darcy's ruck work left a lot to be desired. Too many times he was hitting it over the back where we had no numbers.

The first two center clearances of the 3rd quarter were a reflection of our issues. We win them and have a clear kick forward but instead handball it and turn the ball over. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best option.

Jye's goal kicking is atrocious but my god some help for him inside 50 would be nice. The amount of times he is outnumbered and still gets the ball kicked to him is ridiculous. We made it so bloody easy for Moore and Frampton tonight.

If one of our key forwards could take a ****ing contested mark it might go some way to helping us win a game.

I wish I was keeping a tally of Jackson hospital handpasses because he added another tonight. I don't get how he can be so ****ing stupid.

ABC Sport interviewer quoting Quaynor after the game saying he didn't touch the ball on Banfield's 3rd goal, although he claimed he did during the game. I think he's saying he's not a liar but he's ok with being a cheat.

It was obvious he never touched it. I don't know what the carry on is about.

How you lose is important - and moreso, how you say "sod that" and give it a red hot go and get a draw (and but for the footy gods, a win).

That was not a game any team should claw a draw out of, it takes steely resolve (and skills to do it). Reading all of the negative sentiments in this thread - sorry folks, your heart is talking louder than your head.

Rewatch the match in the clear light of day and be proud of a hell of a comeback.

Freo needs to have the same courage that Sydney has. Luke Parker cant get a gig and is playing in the 2s.

Sonny and Fyfe need to go play some WAFL.

Fyfe cant kick, if hes not getting the ball at clearance hes a liability both defensively and ball in hand. The game has moved on from his style of play.

Sydney have options in 2nd team.

We don't. We need to draft more quick outside players, and use msd and free agency

Who in the WAFL is playing better in there position.

Sturt? Frederick? Simpson?

Hopefully they play well today, and push for selection. Don't think you can drop them, unless we see better performances in the wafl

Watched the last quarter again, Wagner was amazing. Can we get by playing the extra half back and dropping Draper?

Wagner is def not amazing. Had some ok moments, but he genuinely can’t kick. Half his kicks were floaters. It’s so weird how often he does it.

We need the tall I reckon. Draper was good until ball in hand. Took some good marks and positioned relatively well. Just young and will make a few mistakes.

Cox said last night at the game he was a couple weeks away.

He takes the game on and is good below his knees. Wagner is staying.
