Take 3 :D

Backs: Hodge, Goddard, Cornes (Chad variety), Gram, Drummond, Collier, Hill (Suban, Rance)
Mids: Abblett, Gibbs, Griffen, Foley, Hasleby, Rich (Swift, DeBoer)
Rucks: Big Cox, Ottens (Leuenberger, Currie)
Forwards: Pavlich, Deledio, Brennan, Lucas, Higgins, Skipworth, Ziebell (Ballantyne, Grant)

($18 remaining).

With regards to mids...

I'm viewing Gibbs as a keeper, and obviously if either Griffen or Foley have stellar years they will more than likely be keepers too. Hasleby / Rich will be upgraded.

Any opinions helpful. As well as thoughts on leaving the 18k i have over...
Couple of questions you should ask yourself:
How confident are you that Collier and Hill will play games early on?
Is it worth spending nearly $200k on Leuenberger just to have him sit on the emergencies list? That money could come in handy elsewhere like fixing up the backline if you're not that confident in Collier and Hill.

Backs: Milburn, J.King, B.Waters, Mcphee, Dempster, Roberts-Thomson, Carlisle (Dawson, Egan)

Mids: C.Bruce, Dalziell, T.Edwards, Cousins, Ray, T.Selwood, Tenace (McGinnity, Hannebery)

Rucks: Minson, Pyke (Hampson, Sullivan)

Forwards: M.Stokes, Burton, Pettifer, Wirrpanda, R.Robertson, LeCras, J.Allen (Davis, Johnston)

what do you think

If this is seriously your side then I would consider not playing the game as it would be a waste of time.

I would seriously consider downgrading Luenburger to an 83k rookie to spare up some cash for your backline. Also, if your starting two rookies, I would say you should have Raines + Hill/Collier.
Besides your backline, your team is well spaced. Nice work :thumbsu:

Ok, by even looking at what team you go for, may I ask do you go for the Crows? You would think so.. starting Sellar and Davis.
Where did you spend all your money? You must have about 200k left?

Fisher, Goddard, Cornes, Newman, Birchall, Houlihan, Hill (Kite, Suban/Petrenko)
Cross, Selwood, Gibbs, Masten, Hasleby, Rich (Robinson, Beams)
Cox, McIntosh (Currie, Pyke)
Pavlich, Deledio, Harvey, Lucas, Higgins, Skipworth, Ziebell/Yarran (Walker, Gumbleton)

My aim this year is to finish top 10,000, do people think this is a good enough starting team to acheive this? Thanks.

Relying on Drummo/Collier/Hill in the backs is too risky IMO, as others have said, downgrade Leuenberger and use the cash in the backs.

I honestly think thats one of the best teams I have seen on this board.
Nice job :thumbsu:
Edit - how much cash do you have left?

I'm a bit apprehensive about Lucas, since he turned 31 in December and he's got much younger players such as Neagle and Gumbleton looking to get into the starting 22. Is there room for Lloyd, Lucas, Gumbleton and Neagle in the same starting 22? Because if there isn't, Essendon may decide to develop its younger key players and drop Lucas.

Unless he goes to the wing like Richo...

Lucas wont be dropped. Full stop.

On the whole it is a fairly decent line up. Between now and round 1 you need to be as certain as possible that your rookies are going to play for at least the first 4-6 weeks so that you can at least make some money off of them in case they do get dropped and you have to trade, otherwise you'll just end up wasting trades trying to get replacements for them which will in turn leave you short of trades towards the end of the season.

Thats the best advice I can give on picking/changing your team.

People are still starting a rookie in the backs which is interesting. Hopefully we can get a read on petrenko and gallman today, which could change things.

Im not, not enough depth, cant be sure of the bench players playing more than 3 games in a row, imho its 08 all over again, pick 7 established players and hope that they dont get injured lol

Please help. The more suggestions the better.

Personally I don't like to give advice to others telling them they should get rid of this player for that player. What I would suggest is for you to pay attention to those players you aren't sure about over the next few weeks of NAB Cup and practice matches. At the same time pay attention to those you are thinking of replacing them with and then you can make up your own mind on which way you want to go.

Apart from that it is possibly one of the most unique teams I've seen for a while on here. There are some choices in there that may pay off well for you.

Milpig, i don't usually make many comments about other people's teams...but considering yours is quite unique and seemingly well thought out I'll have my 2 cents worth.

The first thing i'd ask myself is your goal for the 09 year. Is it to beat everyone in your league and claim the bragging rights???

Or is it to get yourself as highly ranked as possible...and possibly have a crack at the cars?

The team you have posted is one i would be very scared of facing in a league match. Because it has so many different selection to mine...i can guarantee that all your unique picks would dominate the week they played my team.

But i think overall there a few guys in that team that aren't the best DT options. You identified a few already that you are unsure of...although i reckon everyone here is a bit unsure of Lucas (he is potentially a star or a flop this year)

But if i were you i'd stick to the team and not conform to any other suggestions you get. Its good to see a unique team. It could do quite well in the league and eliminator if you can get a bit of a run on and get lucky with some of those picks.

Ultimately it is also a well structured team that shouldnt field any 0's in the short term.

Good suggestion, but he only has two players in his 22 that are not on my radar, so I am not sure that it is massively unique. (Which is not a bad thing)

It seems well thought out and he has some value picks, there is only one player which I don't see a heap of upside, but I guess it is his unique pick.

whats everyone think of this team:

How does this matter when building a team? I've seen people talking about this before a would like a further explanation.

As for me I want to finish as high as possible in the total rankings and smash my mates.

My team, put together quickly, rookies will change must likely before round 1. any suggestions or players i should not have:

A few things to think about.

-Richo can be picked as a forward and will probably score more than either Fev or Roughead, so it maybe worth considering moving him to the forwards and looking at taking another pure midfielder in his place.

- Coughlan hasn't played at AFL level for near on 2 years, unless he gets to play some practice matches it might be worth going with another option possibly even a rookie like Rich/Hartlett/Robinson which would in turn give you some extra cash to use in replacing Richo in the Mids.

- Make sure that Hill will play early on as it is possible you might get hit with a few 0's down back especially with Rance & Petrenko no certainties to be playing either.

To me the rest of the team seems fairly solid and should provide you with a decent start to the season.

This is my first go.

Backs: Goddard, C.Cornes, Birchall, Adcock, Malceski, Raines, Hill (suban, schmidt)
Mid: Ablett, K.Cornes, Gibbs, Pendlebury, Hasleby, Rich (dangerfield, robinson)
Rucks: Cox, Mcintosh (currie, j.tippett)
Forwards: Pavlich, Deledio, Harvey, Houlihan, Higgins, Skipworth, Ziebell (walker, ballantyne)

Any suggestions?

how many definite upgrades should u have in ur team??

these are the players i have that i will definitely by upgrading

Ziebell
Rich
Yarran
Higgins
Lucas (unless he shows somthing special)
Raines (might get back to old form)

16 keepers then force?

Depends on what you define as a keeper. For me, currently im hopeinf for something like 90+ for mids (minimum), 85+ for backs, and 85 of 90+ for FWs.
