For Mine, D.Smith, T.Dickson and A.Saad are forward rookie locks, got them all in, just one more i need then im set.

Backline, you have got morris and ellis from richmond who will both play plenty, Tomas Bugg who will play alot aswell so that 3 backs,

And the midfield, you have, Magner, Shiel, Miles and many more.

What are everyones thoughts on the top rookies for each position?

I would say:

Def: Ellis, Bugg, Darley, Morris

Mids: Clifton, C Smith, Magner, ???, ???

Rucks: Giles, Redden, Stephenson

Fwds: D Smith, Dickson, ???, ???

Still looking to fill my last rookie mid and fwd position but am not sold on any of the other prospects getting named for round 1.

I know most people (including me) currently have one or both of Ellis & Morris in there backs, but I just can't foresee a Richmond rookie defender averaging over 55. Might have something to do with having Nason, Conca, Webberly & Batchelor over the last 2 years, where all were next to useless from a DT perspective.

I think this is a pretty narrow point of view no offence. Every player is different and plays a slightly different style. Also if Ellis and Morris do average 55 they'd still be making you decent cash cow money, enough atleast. My only problem with these two is that im not sure both can slot into the team. This is the only reason i still don't have morris in my team but im contemplating bringing him in for hargrave and freeing up some cash.

I've heard his disposal during the NAB cup hasn't been the greatest, so I'm not too sure on his job security. I keep bringing him in and out of my team.

Same. I might end up cutting him to save 3k.

Swapped him out for Shiel. Shiel will most likely start off a lot slower but I think he probably has better job security later in the season when bench players are more important due to injuries/suspensions.

Wouldnt he be more of a downgrade prospect for later in the season ?

Im not 100% sure on his injury troubles this pre season but considering we havent seen him in the nab and it is his first year at this level, do you think he will slot straight into the side ? I for one would love if he is named round 1 because I would take him over Smith for sure but I think it will probably take a few rounds at least for him to get his fitness back up to scratch since he has been in a moon boot the last few weeks.

Although in saying all of that, Im not a GWS follower so I wouldnt know how he is travelling right now. Any GWS supporters know how long it'll be before he is back on track ?

Clay is another one we might have to wait until teams are released but I hear they love him down at the kennel and tough as nails which coaches always love.

His positive aspects out way his negative ones for sure IMO. Macca loves his hard attack on the ball and he is just an accumulator of the ball. His disposal will improve.

Clay, Dickson look set for round 1, i am also confident Skinner will be named:

THE Western Bulldogs are set to play top draft pick Clay Smith in Round 1 and former VFL forward Tory Dickson is also a chance to line up against West Coast.

Assistant coach Steven King said the match was a dress rehearsal for Round 1 and both Smith and Dickson were strong chances to make their debuts on April 1.

I read he played in the reserves on the weekend. Also read somewhere that he would need to train really well to need considered for round 1 which suggests he might not be that far off. If not round 1 round 2 could be a possibility since GWS have the extra week.

and then probably a sub candidate for at least a week, perhaps more.....

Nicoski out for half the season...as an Eagles supporter am shattered, but from a DT perspective certainly brings Weedon strongly into consideration.

I echo your sentiments mate. I'd say Weedon is now almost certain for round 1. He'll be in my team. :thumbsu:

That's pretty likely but even as a sub his price will still rise, unless people don't mind trading him in at an inflated price. That would also require downgrading a rookie prematurely...well unless you have a dud pick you need to get rid of.

I think it'll be Hill and Hams who start ahead of Weedon in rd1, which is annoying for DT.

Weedon will get his chance though and can score so worth a look as a downgrade target at some stage

This exactly. Same goes with Neale, Magner and other GWS rookies who may not play first few rnds but come in say Rnd 4-5.. you pretty much have to carry them on your bench now if you want to buy them in at base price as bringing them in later wastes a trade and an underdone cow.
Also Im backing myself not to have a "dud" pick to fix up.. :p

Now the question is, will Shiel really live up to the massive PS hype and be worth carrying for the early rnds if he was sub or not picked?
Wish we had some kind of stats or bit of a report for his hitout last week.. ie: where he played, how much TOG, etc..

Did Shiel play for GWS Reserves or something last week?

Did Shiel play for GWS Reserves or something last week?
He did and was apparently impressive. It was just the reserves side though so if he is any good you would expect that when playing at the lower level. Might need to head over to the GWS board for further information though.
