Here's my ruck setup:

Kreuzer, Tippet (Seaby/McEvoy, Warnock)

Now... is having Seaby/McEvoy on the bench too expensive? Or are they just a cash cow that can provide good cover for my rucks if they do miss a game or 2....? Or considering Kreuz/Tippet both played 22 games last year do i not care about cover and should just instant trade them out if they get injured/suspended?

For me NicNat fiurther entrenched himself in my side on the weekend

I'm looking forward to seeing his TOG because it appeared he didn't have much TOG in the 1st half with Cox getting an extended run. (I stand to be corrected on this though)

I'm hoping he can average 70-75 - so in a 13 goal thumping - 66 pts isn't disgraceful in a 12% shortened match

He had 66% game time. Just on your point though. He scored what, 25 points when Cox played predominately in the first half? Isn't that going to be the story for most of the year?

i don't think so.

of that 66% - (and i'm only guessing) - that he had 40% in the second half and 26 % in the first half.

In the season proper - i can't see him being on the ground less than 66% - and expecting it should be higher.

When Cox was rucking I was expecting to see NicNat up forward but it looked like the role he played in the first half was simply an assistance role - and not playing forward - i'm wondering if the heat had anything to do with this.

I don't think this will be the case in the season proper - i'm expecting him to be resting forward more than just on the pine.

I recall at one point late in the second quarter the commentators noted that NicNat had been on the ground for only 17 minutes, though in a shortened game that isn't actually as bad as it sounds (around 35-40% would be my guess).

West Coast used the first half of the game to get game time into Cox, which will probably happen again in the next two matches as well. We probably won't have a great indication of how much time each will get until Round 1.

Mr Yogi in my opinion this would be a Boo Boo. If you are not planning to trade out Kreuzer and Tippet then you are using these guys as cash cows and they are not the best. And you are taking away approx 50pts per round away from your starting line up. Warnock is probably a better cash cow than both and is 100K cheaper.

......I am not HATING IT, Have heaps of money left over and am thinking why not sure up the rucks with mcevoy on the bench...will be a good cash cow. Might even start him and drop kreuzer because i am unsure on his role

I am considering a 77k rookie for the fourth ruck as it is such a raffle for the fourth out of Lobbe, Trengove & Roughead.

Besides, if I have to use my fourth Ruck it is time to trade out Ruck#1 or #2.

Warnock should be reliable enough on the bench.

My "team" is set barring injuries, the only thing i'm fiddling with is bench options and any rookie disaters/elevations.

Not fussed. Either i have trengove/warnock on bench and 200k left in bank or warnock/seaby and ~80k left.

I just don't see Trengove being a very good cash cow and instead see Seaby/McEvoy (despite their price premium) being better cash cows that should play and do well despite not counting for my best 22...

It is interesting to see Cox & Naitanui's TOG % for the match v Port. Obviously it won't be necessarily representative of what will happen in the regular season.

But wont they rest Nic Nat in the fwd line. I dont think they will take him off the ground altogether when Cox is rucking.

Rest up forward and block leads from Kennedy, McKinley, LeCras, Q-stick and Hansen (fail) and whoever else we throw up there...

I think not. Nic nat burns himself out and needs proper bench rests rather than "rests" up forward. He's not super fit like a Judd/Ablett yet.

Both did stints deep forward in the game v Port. I don't think they were that long - both must have spent decent time on the bench too (going by their % on ground figures)

Ok, we can call Sandilands is a lock.

But what to do about the 2nd ruck now? I really dont want to spend the extra to get Kruezer or Tippett as im not sure what their forward roles will do to their DT scores, and i really dont want to spend that much money either.

Do i go with NicNat and hope he gets pleanty of gametime even when Cox is rucking? If he has a couple of games where he is "everywhere" again and breaks the game apart- goals, tackles etc. He might get some high scores that will see him go up in value and be easy to upgrade. Cox has become injury prone and may miss games too.

McEvoy still may not be the #1 or #2 ruckman for the saints, and im not sure Seaby will score much above his average.

Hille is too risky and was getting terrible scores at the start of last year before his injury anyway.

This is going to be a tough decision.:(

My feathered friend, it is speculative but I have decided to punt on McEvoy. Why? He looks to me a superior choice to King and Gardiner RIGHT NOW, a better mark, a better tackler, more mobile and a better goal kicking option (less muscle and guile granted). I reckon Saints will be desperate to play him as much as possible so that he is a real factor come finals time. I am backing that he plays from the start and keeps his position. Plus given King and Gardiners frailties they will be happy to rest, rotate and nurse them through the season so they are also injury free finals time. Its a tough choice as NicNat and Hille could do anything. But on balance for mine McEvoy is the safer cash cow (upgrade) option at 40K less than the other 2.

Gee one good game in the NAB cup (which doesnt mean much) sure sways peoples opinions very easily around here. First week everyone was calling NicNat the one, now McEvoy - what if Vickery or Ottens come out next week, pull a tonne and play exceptionally well?

I think people are placing too much weight on the NAB when roles, TOGs and competitions for spots is often not like it will be in season proper.

I used the NAB cup to confirm my thoughts on players, and to cross some off the list - it will take more than one good week to make me select a player (or even consider it really). If they put together 2-3 good weeks (eg banner) then yeh start looking into them and giving them some thought and research, but in the case of just one great game, I think its a little premature to be jumping all over them.

Then NicNat/McEvoy with Vickery or Ottens on the bench will OWNZ YOU ALL!

I've had NicNat on the radar for a while now - and like you are using the NAB cup as a negative screen. Not convinced on McEvoy - Saints have two seasoned ruckman and 2 KP forwards.

I don't see a regular space for him as yet.

Mcevoys break out year will be next year, they used him for everything the other night but I dont think he will play 22 just yet.

Come on guys, lets all really think about this.

Over the past month I have been reading through this forum seeing people trying to find the next Mitch Clark who will rise in value (you and I both know that was a one of).

I have gone for 2 of Clark, Sandilands and Cox. IMO this is the way to go, every player in the 200-300 k bracket has question marks

He is the number 1 ruck?
Will he get much TOG?
Will he play up forward or as a Key defender?
Will he be viable as a Keeper by the later rounds?

I think the best way to approach the rucks this year is to pick players who have proven themselves, and look for bargains in other areas.

Cox will probably drop to under 400k however he will most likely play 20+ games, and durability will not be as a concern and lets be honest can you see him averagin under 100?, same goes for Sandilands. Charman has now gone down with an injury so Clark comes back into contention, if he can play as number 1 ruck and get around the ground, he definetely has a case to be in your team.

I see Naitanui as an absolute gun, so much so that Cox will easily drop a lot of value at the start of the season due to less TOG until he gets his match fitness up.

Naitanui is a game breaker and I cannot see Worsfold using him sparingly during the season proper.

I am starting with Naitanui in the hope of making a cheap upgrade to Cox by mid season.
