chappy or ablett? who's going to score more for the rest of the year?

It's toss of a coin stuff really. If they were to play the season out, their total scores would be very close.

However, I have the feeling that one or both will most likely miss a game or two because of injury or just generally being rested for the finals. Historically, Chapman is more prone to injury than Ablett but has been good so far this year. Still, geelong will want him as fit as possible for the finals so he may be more likely to miss.

Ablett's recent form hasn't been spectacular but if his form improves he could go back to how he was scoring last year/early this year and that would mean a great upside to him.

Not only do I have Barlow out but I also have Fyfe out for the week without any forward bench cover.

I have 6 trades left and very little cash in the bank.

So here's what I've been thinking:

Trade A:

Fyfe > McNeil
Barlow > Chapman

Then I would swap McNeil to the mids and Chapman into my forward line and put Banner into the midfield. I would keep Chapman in my forwards for two weeks until SJ came back and hope that Banner could keep his spot for that amount of time or that Gysberts could come back in. This would only leave me with 4 trades, which is a bit slim.

Trade B:

Barlow > Ablett

Then I would leave Fyfe for the week and cop a zero. The simplest one and means I get to stay with 5 trades.

Trade C:

Fyfe > Henderson
Barlow > Chapman/Ablett

Once again, I'm down to 4 trades but get to keep my mids at full strength and will probably maintain the same kind of score in my forwards with Henderson. Only problem is that I don't know how good Hendersons JS is.

Hey guys

Currently have 9 trades and $86000 in the bank. Team as follows:

BACKS
Goodard,Hodge,Harbrow,Enright,Waters, Gram, Shaw (Hunt,Webberly)

CENTRES
Swan,Pendles,Selwood, Bartel, Simpson, Barlow (Martin, Shuey)

RUCKS
Sandilands, Hille (Stanley, Mcauley)

FORWARDS
Pavlich, Murphy, O'Keefe, Giansiracusa, Rockliff, Hall, Podsiadly (Brown,Stewart)

I'm happy enough for Martin to cover Barlow short term then trade when either Montags/Ablett look even more attractive

  • Option 1- Hille to Ryder (now that Stanley is gone. Ryder is clearly the best option)
  • Option 2- Hunt/Webberly to Strijk and Hille to Ryder
  • Option 3- Use cash from Strijk downgrade to bring in Chappy or Roo in a few weeks
Obviously all 3 options can be done simultaneously so I guess I'm wanting an opinion on each of them. IMO Ryder is the standout ruck and I'm leaning towards taking a risk and chopping Hunt for Strijk. But then again Blair from Collingwood could be a good downgrade option for Martin next week.

Ahh to many decisions. Thanks in advance guys:thumbsu:

peoples thoughts on TDL?? thinking playfair for him soo i can afford barlow to montags 8 trades left sitting 60th overall.... will TDL play the rest of the year? or is tarrant a better option?

You would have to think TDL would be a good chance to play the year out given Bradshaw and Playfairs injury status. I reckon the Swans would be wanting to give him as much game time and experience as possible.

Tarrant could well be dropped when Grima comes bak from injury.

So in summary TDL:p

What you reckon about my post above dreamer?

Hey guys,

Im really in a tough situation here, like everyone else I have to trade out Barlow, but should I go to Ablett or Goddard??

Goddard will give me some DP flexability, while Ablett could deliver me another 5 ppg. My main concern with these 2 is that they could be rested at some point during the DT finals. Also have heard a rumour that Goddard may be injured? If any Saint supporters or anyone else can clear this up that would be appreciated:thumbsu:

So basically Goddard V Ablett

cheers mate i would go option 2 ryder looks like the best ruck option other than sandi. Leave hunt good bench cover all year

Yeh if I traded Hunt I would be relying on Webberley/Strijk for cover for the year. I might wait a week and see how Ash Smith debuts and how Jarryd Blair from Collingwood go and look to them for a downgrade. Something about Strijk just doesnt seem right. Thanks for your help dreamer:thumbsu:

Ablett easily. People are forgetting what he's capable of and he's only going through a small rough patch ATM. Of all the players in the competition GAJ is the one most likely to break a run of bad form and personally I feel he is about to explode. Remember he is going through some bad form ATM by his standards but is still scoring 100+ week in week out which not many players are capable of.

I know nothing about the Goddard injury rumours but I'm guessing it's most likely BS. The DP link to the backline is nowhere near as effective as it to the forwards unless you have Farmer on your back bench. Just off the top of my head only Hodge (and maybe a couple of others) have DEF/MID classification so it's not as if you have cover the whole backline with him.

Cheers mate :thumbsu:

I think I will go Ablett, Ive only got Hodge and Carrazzo as DP players in defence so it does seem pretty useless. With Webberly and Strijk on the bench, Ill be able to cover injuries pretty well hopefully

I did a search for this but found nothing so I'm sorry if it has already been posted.

Barlow > Ablett or Montagna?

Really need help deciding

Both obviously great options, but i'd take Joey. Will probably be proven wrong, but something about GAJ has not sat well wth me lately. Just doesn't look like himself IMO, whether it's the contractual stuff, I dunno, I just reckon Joey is a safer bet.

As for me, like many I am struggling to decide on Barlow's replacement. 8 trades, $7,800 in bank.

B: Goddard, Enright, Hodge, Gilbee, Carrazzo, Hunt, Kennelly (Davis & Webberley)
M: Ablett, Swan, Gibbs, Montagna, Murphy, Barlow (Rohan & Shuey)
R: Sandilands, NicNat (Trengove & Lobbe)
F: J Brown, ROK, Harvey, Franklin, Goodes, Hall, Rockliff (Fyfe & Roberts)

Options:
1) Barlow > Boyd (ave: 112)
2) Barlow > Bartel (ave: 108)
3) Barlow > Chappy (ave: 118)

Am also probably going to go Fyfe > TDL. Other midfield options include: Hayes (ave: 106), Pendles (ave: 104)...Simpson & Judd both probably too risky as I already Gibbs & Murphy in mids.

Any help much, much appreciated. :thumbsu:

Mate I would go Boyd out of that lot. Don't like Bartel for some reason. He has that Ablett feel that something just isn't right. Save Chappy for a 'luxury' upgrade in last couple of weeks in forward line for Hall or Rocky (thats my plan anyway:D).

Pendles is a very smooth option as well. Correct me if I'm wrong but plays his remaining 8 matches at the G and his hitting some ripper form. I'm loving his output at the moment.

Good luck pal:thumbsu:

Cheers mate. Boyd was someone I had not considered for 1 minute until a couple of hours ago. In the past i've been more of a SC player, so thought Bartel was a no-brainer, but Boyd's DT scores are pretty damn enticing.

Best of luck to you too. :thumbsu:

im looking to make 2 trades this week - one the Barlow trade and the other a downgrade. (10 TRADES, 19k)

Barlow -> Montagna/Ablett - already got Swan, Bartel, Boyd. Leaning towards Joey atm.

The other is a downgrade in the backs

my backs are:
Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Carrazzo, Duffield, Waters, Hunt (Maguire, Webberley)

Now im looking to get Strijk in for cash for either Hunt, Maguire or Webberley.

Maguire, according to lions board, is playing ressies this wk and could be back nxt wk but will get me the most cash.

Webberley wont make me much and if i go Hunt i will have to start Strijk or Webberley this wk.

so which one
Option 1
Maguire -> Strijk
Option 2
Hunt - > Strijk
Option 3
Webberley to Strijk
Option 4
wait til next round and downgrade a fwd (fyfe, gumby) to TDL or R.Tarrant

Thanks for that, sorry bout the long post :)

^^^ Dump Maguire imo, so injury prone.

I am thinking of doing a 2nd trade this week, in preparation for the future.

I have Kennelly, Webberly or Henderson as my 7th back. Kennelly is worth the most, and i'm thinking of starting Webberly this week anyway, so should I make use of the cheap Strijk downgrade option this week, and trade out Tadgh for him, and then hopefully in the next few weeks upgrade one of Webberly or Henderson, in the hope that they have gone up more in price than Tadgh would have?

Hopefully that makes sense to someone haha :D

I'd be shocked if we didn't rest several of our stars, have done for the past few years. Chappy would be prime candidate #1.

Disagree.

First of all we have to be in a position to do so without risk, and the ladder doesn't look like providing that this year (especially with freo in the top 4). Secondly, if we were to risk players in round 22, I acknowledge Chappy would be the prime candidate, but he and maybe one or two more would be it. There's no way we're going to rest several (i.e. like 6 blokes) and a) risk going into a final off a loss and b) have the disruption of bringing 6 blokes in the following week. Might rest 6 over a month maybe, but not in the one week.

Ash Smith v. Roberton for Job security?

Jack Watts v. TDL for job security?

Who wins?

Watts defintely over TDL.

The other one is tougher but Roberton has been in and out of the Freo side all season, and WCE will give their kids every opportunity to perform, so I'd go with Smith who looked pretty impressive yesterday.

What are peoples thoughts on trading in Riewoldt? He has a massive BE and his price will drop dramatically over the next couple of weeks. But is it to much of a risk bringing him in incase the hamstring flares up?

Would definitely sit and wait to see how he goes the next couple of weeks.

In 2 or 3 weeks he will have bottomed out in price nicely just in time for DT finals and you will have more information about where he is fitness/form wise.

Think Riewoldt's a risk and I'd wait and see.

For me, being just outside the 8 and having to win this week it is trade time.

Dealt with Ziebell and Barlow last week, this week Gumby will be the target, and maybe Fyfe, although that depends whether JB comes up.

I have 6 trades left and am thinking about trading Grant Birchall, who has been ok but not spectactular. I've got $140, 800 and my main targets are Scotland, who is quite cheap, or Gilbert, who is normally very consistent. Who do people think is the better option?
