Aren't we already covering up either Lockett or Coventry's name with Fletcher's? That may well suffice.
I'd like to think we can find something a bit more fitting than a piece of tarp for a couple of hours every 3-4 weeks.

Looking forward to heading to the Gold Coast to see a win for this Champion of our club.

Lots of celebrating to be had afterwards.

Who else is up for it?

Do we need to?

Please don't let us go down the path of actually naming medals for people who come 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th in the B&F like Richmond.

Pretty much anything worth having a name already has one, and the obsession with commemorating everything has brought us to a place where you can be a 4-time premiership captain and the league games record holder, and the best thing they can find to name after you is the BOG medal... for the pre-season final.

In saying that, I agree with TB. Rename Windy Hill.

When I started watching the game properly, Fletch was already into his 7th season and about 120 games in him.

He's now into his 20th season and is one game away from 350.

Put him in the full back of Essendon's TOTC.

its been hilarious to watch the mugs from other clubs and the media come around to fletch as the years have gone by. It happened to Richo as well.

As they arrived in the 'novelty' years... i.e the mid 30's the commentators feel the need to mention their age EVERY single time they get the ball. All the knockers who stuck the boots in every other week started calling him the 'best'

We have known hes been a champ for years.. but outside they have been calling him a hack... never gets the best defender.. always tripping ppl... ect ect. ...all of a sudden they are now universally calling him a champion!

well done fletch, you were always a champion to us, about time the footy world came around and gave you your due.

we can probably argue til the cows come home about who is the best fb.

Fletcher played on the best crop of ff's the game has ever seen at one time. lockett, dunstall, ablett, modra, kernahan, rocca ect. He went on later in his career to be a zoning back, 3rd man in but he did pay his dues early.

Silvangi was named best ever... but did he even play fb for the bulk of his career?
Scarlett... the obvious other choice, but he came after those greats had retired from ff...

If the team of the century was being named now... would it be Fletch?

The thing that kills me is that in the mid 2000s Fletch used to get bagged for playing FB and not necessarily taking the best forward. Then Geelong started doing the same with Scarlett and all we hear is what a fantastic coaching move it was

Best all round defender I've seen. Could lock down on a tall, medium or small, clean up high balls as 3rd man and provide awesome rebound. In the same game.

And he's still playing fantastically well!
