Anyone else feel like he's still going to Gold Coast next year?

Yep.

Talked out of retirement 8 weeks from now after having a break, watching finals and gets the hunger back. Maybe a trip to Europe like someone else who " retired" as Richmond coach.

This just stops the media harassing him for the next two months.

We can praise a player while also being honest about said player.
They're a sensitive bunch. They don't mind pumping up their own players tyres, but are happy to make "honest" appraisals on other champion players, just look at their posts in the Pendlebury thread.

But on Dusty, whilst it took a him while to find consistency and reach his peak, and faded pretty quickly after it, his best is as good as you'll ever see. He's the definition of a big game player. A pleasure to have watched him.

Incredible player.

Took a while to truly hit his peak but once he did there haven’t been many better.

Not sure we’ll ever see something like his 2017. By the back end of the season and through the finals he was the talk of the town in Melbourne and continually delivered.

Game needs more players like him.

Martin put together an outstanding career and that 2017-2020 period in particular truly was exceptional.

It's a shame he didn't have a great run of things in the years to follow. His talent was still obvious but especially this season, his heart didn't appear to be in it. Martin had that incredible peak and then personal circumstances, along with Richmond's decline, made it hard for someone who operated in perfect flow during big moments.

Congrats on a superb run Dusty and calling it on your terms.

I think he could have been better though. Took too long to reach his best and was only at his best for 4 or 5 seasons before he quickly got worse. 4 All Australians for his career really isn't enough for a player with his level of talent.
Took too long to reach his best... polled Brownlow votes in four games in his debut season, in a team that went 6-15. Rising Star nomination, ultimately ineligible due to suspension. The following year polled in six games in a team that went 8-1-13 and finished third in the B&F. 2012 was the sleeping pill/Daniel Connors year, and possibly his worst (until 2024). Then from 2013 he was away (polled 16 votes in 8 games) with 2014 being the first of his 8 AA squads.

Just to those saying ‘big game player’ and so on.

Dusty sits 8th all time for total Brownlow votes, averaging 0.78 per game which is the same as Ablett Jnr, Swan. Judd with 0.80. All considered great H&A season players. Perhaps his otherworldly finals performances have overshadowed that he’s actually also been a very good and consistent H&A player?

Food for thought.

Thank you Dusty.

Finished 3rd in the 2016 Brownlow didn't he.
