For however I may affect the Martin deal. Conca has re-signed until 2016

I'm guessing Richmond really has moved on and used a bit of the cash for Martin to sign Conca.

It's amazing what an extra 10% more than everyone else can achieve

You may be right ...

However, I think you should look at the earlier poster who said the Tigers wouldnt be interested in Mumford. IMO the key reason why we managed to have room in our salary cap is because people just don't rate our players and we are able to maintain our list on the basis of this.

Look at White last year? people were referring to us as 'raping' Adelaide with White + 22 for Tippett - Only Sydney supporters were saying that he is actually quite a decent player with a lot of potential. Adelaide would now fall over themselves for that deal.

Tigers - take Mumford and 1st round, everyone wins ... home for dinner!

I think some people have concerns over Mumford's body rather than his talent. He also is maybe a couple of years older than we'd like him. Plus your first is going to be late teens.

Allegedly Dees not interested. Probably will have to go back to the club with his tail between his legs unless he nominates his asking price and enters the preseason?? It has been reported in the press he has an affinity with some Saints. With GWS and the MFC not interested he could slip through to the Saints for free. Although not so sure whether those in charge at the Saints would risk it!!

You know what's funny, Carr decided to shop him around because he thought he could get him 600k on the open market, or that we'd get sucked in and go okay 600k. But we held strong and called the bluff, now he's more than likely to come back to us, I hope we offer him less than the original contract which I think was around 1mil over two seasons. Maybe something like 475k a year for the next two.

I think a club about to re build and bring in a lot of young kids should give Martin a miss. He would be much better off at a Swans or Cats who have a strong off field culture and a chance to keep him on a tight leash.

I think you should be proud of the direction your club is going. This is not the Richmond I knew. This has sent a great message to the current playing list and the players you recruit in the future that you can't hold a gun to the clubs head and demand what you think you are worth.

If he returns to punt road he would have work really hard to earn the respect back. Might be the perfect thing to help pull his head in. Hopefully Conca has taken a slice of Martin's orginal offer and now he has to take less. He also has to get rid of his pathetic manager.

Saints not interested either

St Kilda will not pursue Richmond midfielder Dustin Martin.

I think the only scenarios left are:
  1. He goes back to the Tiges on a lesser deal. Seems likely but not sure how much damage his stalling has caused. Richmond fans have disowned him and I don't even know how his team mates feel about him now
  2. He ends up with whoever hasn't said no to him yet. Of the realistic ones this would be Hawthorn (if Bud leaves), Adelaide (who will have to give up a good player/s and assuming they don't get Betts) Norf (if they don't get Betts)...anyone else?
  3. One of the clubs who have said no (eg Melb, Collingwood, Carlton, GWS) are foxing and will negotiate during trade period.

I'm incredibly happy with the way the club has handled it.

I want him to be traded personally, but if he doesn't, hopefully he sings on a lower deal. Have lost a lot of respect for him, and he will need to really bust his ass to get the fans and maybe his teammates back on side.

Not a good fit for us - we are also a young developing club. Hang on - you are talking about North?

Good point - North probably have other more important needs anyway. Ditto Dogs
I didn't include Essendon but doubt they'd want the headache of managing him after the year they've had. Eagles won't because the new coach will have enough on their plate.
Freo would be a good fit but I don't know their cap situation.

Reality is that his bargaining power is significantly diminished.

I am not so sure that Martin has messed things up at all. History in all sports (AFL included) says talented players with dubious backgrounds always find a team willing to bring them in with "our leadership group and culture is so strong that it can accommodate Dustin" type statements. If he goes back to Richmond he will still get $450000/year which is excellent coin.

Teams saying we are not interested are simply negotiating. GWS and the others want to get Martin for as cheap as possible. They do not need to trade with Richmond at all as Martin is uncontracted. 4 teams have not been mentioned and they all play this weekend.

Plenty of action to go here in my opinion.
