Back on track to Martin. For the casual non observer, note that I don’t think there is a better player in the competition that can run to his left, and pin-point a pass over 40 back towards the corridor by putting the ball on the “outside” of his right foot. He does it all the time in each match and its incredibly impressive. it’s the type of thing that cant be taught. As he said, he was born to play AFL

I dont think there will be much between Martin, Scully and Trengove,
I cant see a draft blunder there - only a great draft with all winners.

I do think last years draft will throw up a couple more 'what ifs' than
most other drafts, due to the GC and sides seeming to risk more.

Yep, Trengove really looks the goods. Definitely no blunder there.

Scully looked the business too last year.

Yep all 3 of the kids look to be quality youngsters to build a team around.
Personally, I prefer Trengove to Scully, he is similar to Cotchin in the way he hunches over when running and elite field kicker. Scully IMO is more of the accumulator but less damaging than Trengove IMO.
Before the draft my preference was: Trengove, Martin, Scully
Now (with bias) my preference is: Martin, Trengove, Scully

It is good to have a top 3 were people can stand back and say "man, all these kids are guns now and will be future stars". Trengove was superb tonight in a losing team. Hard to compare with Martin's most recent performance, as the games were so different, but it was almost as impressive IMO. He was the only guy who kept running :(

Scully obviously can't add to this debate at the moment but he is definitely a guy who will run all day. He doesn't have the marking of Trengove or the goalkicking nouse of Martin but his handballing is superb.

35 possesions, 1 goal, 10 inside 50s just to name a few stats from tonights game!

Thats now 4 25+ possesion games in a row now from Dusty so really getting consistency into his game now!

Kid is a star!

dont worry kruges, you guys will roll us, dusty might be a gun, but you guys will be atleast 5 goals too good for us.

also thought trengove was really good against the eagles on thursday, im a big fan, wouldnt suprise me if he is just as good as martin, maybe not as explosive, but more consistent.

And we've got the kid next week. Great!

Cant wait. I reckon this will be the Tiges biggest test for the year. Freo genuine top 6 team but playing in the Tiges Den rolling off 2 in a row.

Hate the twilight start (Freo prime time live) but ill be getting off the 3.10 at Southern Cross. Hanging big time:thumbsu:

Would love to have Martin but can't complain about Scully or trengrove, would be good if these kids take Melbourne and Richmond back up the top and create a modern day rivalry

Lucas Cook was almost certainly a reach in regard to public opinion, as was Conca

Cook did place top 10 in the player aptitude testing though (all round analysis iirc)

I wasn't trying to question Conca's drafting, i honestly like the pick and he has shown some good signs... that doesn't mean it wasn't a reach though

i was comparing the drafting of conca to martin as one poster claimed you would have taken martin over the tiger supporting scully if you had pick one, he used taking conca as an example of your recruiters taking the player they wanted no matter what the pick

i wanted to point out that taking martin at one is NOT a reach to the extent conca was (and sure cook as well) at 6

i will give conca three years as a mid and cook 5 years as a kpp before i make a judgement on their ability to be an afl player though

When we took the safe best available option with tambling over franklin we still copped plenty of criticism for it, so not sure if reaching for a player makes much difference, all that should matter is whether they can play.

It seems people (I know your not one of them) are all too willing to sink the boot into us for taking Conca before Heppell, but then are happy to overlook GC, WCE and Brissy passed on him as well.

FWIW I'm plenty happy with Conca, scored very high on his psych test and hasn't missed a senior game in his first season. Has averaged 17 possessions a game with that average being 22/23 in his last 3 games playing mid.

Overrated. Will be interesting to see how Martin handles a tag, tiger supporters need to keep their pants on, I remember your bunch talking up Deledio a few years back and the pretty boy could not handle the big time in the middle when he was tagged.

Deledio not coping with a tag is a myth, in 2009 when he played mid he was tagged each week and still averaged 25+ possies a game on his way to winning his 2nd B&F.

Also the beauty with Martin is he wins his own hardball, so you can tag him all you want, Cotchin will rotate to the middle, Martin will then just run the player forward, fend him off and kick a goal as your lot found last week Moby1 ;)

If only we drafted blue collar mids like Ziebell and Cunnington with our top picks. Still relying on 33 year old Harvey who is your only class midfielder (probably along with only Swallow) to carry your side. I can see why you're so upset.

Swallow and Harvey would be your best players. Bagging Ziebell? Nice work sunshine, Id love to see Martin coming off Ziebells injury problems, as for Cunnington, give him time only his second year like Ziebell is coming off a few injuries, it took Cotchin a couple of seasons to show something, and his disposal of the ball is a bit of a worry at the moment. Oh and great signs for the future when Miller is a regular

No they wouldn't.

Ziebell will be a decent to good player. Don't see much in Cunnington though. Even putting aside he's not getting much of the ball he looks slow and disposal isn't the best. Decision making pretty questionable too. It's not the output I'd be concerned with but the scope for improvement. Just see nothing special about him for a pick #4.

No they wouldn't.

Swallow is a class above all your midfielders, Cotchins ugly kicks out of packs?
Martin will start getting caught out on those "dont argues" and has no room for improvement and Foley? the poor fella just runs around in circles.

Edited for accuracy

Need to do better than this if you want to take Barnzy to task. Bit lame, and shows you dont have much knowledge regarding Richmond.

Swallow is a class above all your midfielders

No he's not. Firstly he's older and already being outperformed statistically by Martin in his 2nd year (although it's close). Cotchin will be catch up too. This just proves what dire straights North are in with their midfield. So reliant on Harvey and Swallow. One of them is 33 years old. Wells is a serious disappointment for a top 3 pick as well. I rate Adams but there's not much there after that. Ziebell and Cunnington struggling. Atley can find the footy but already proven the concerns of his kicking as a junior and a reason why he "slipped" were genuine concerns.

Martin will start getting caught out on those "dont argues" and has no room for improvement

I was trying to have a legitimate argument with you but now you have proven yourself to be an out and out (bad) troll. No room for improvement yet already improved out of sight in 1 year. He's going from strength to strength.

Foley? the poor fella just runs around in circles.

You mean the Foley that finally has gotten over his injuries, had a few games to get his fitness back and last week had 24 touches, 5 clearances, 6 inside 50's, 9 tackles, 71% eff and tonight had 40 touches, 8 clearances, 6 inside 50's, 4 tackles, 3 goal assists, 83% eff tonight? You don't rate him? That's fine. I'm happy to keep him.
