I was thinking maybe they've forgotten how good Dusty was as his recent seasons after his kidney injury have been below his high standards. But then what has Clangerfield done the last few seasons? Never mind Buddy's last few seasons.

Has anyone ever mentioned how shit Buddy was in GF?? He was barely sighted and never dominated, yes he had amazing finals but in GF, went missing.

AA is a crock of shit anyway, selection panel is loaded with Scats flogs. Coaches should select the AA team for the year. Dusty would be picked first by just about every coach pre his kidney injury.

The strangest part over his whole justification was that he kept highlighting the 3 Norm Smiths as if that's all he had achieved. Overlooking 3x Gary Ayers Awards (Coaches finals player of the year), 4 AA's (The fact he isn't on 6 is a bit of a joke, deserved one in 2019 IMO and was absolutely robbed of one in 2023), a Brownlow and a glut of other honours. So "it's just 3 out of 300" doesn't wash for me, he has been a brilliant player over his whole career and while the Norm Smiths understandably get most of the attention, he has achieved so much more in the game.

FWIW I personally think GAJ and Buddy sit just above Dusty in terms of players of the 21st century, and I don't have a problem if someone wants to rank Danger above him. I would disagree with them, as Dusty's performances in almost ALL of his finals have been match winning performances which for me trumps the regular season consistency that Danger has over him. But I can respect that is some people's view, as long as it's not built on "It's only 3 games out of 300", implying he's been average for the other 297.

You would expect a little more research from someone like Leigh Matthews with his standing in the game and someone who is normally well balanced and considered with their opinions.

The funny thing is, Martin polls Brownlow votes in 35.9% of games he has played. Danger 35.6%.

Across their career Dusty averages 24.4 disposals to Danger’s 23.6. Dusty averages 1.1 goals to Danger’s 1.0 goals. SI’s 7.1 v 7.0.

Dusty has 11 x seasons averaging 20+ disposals and 1+ goal. Danger has done it 5 times.

Of course Danger is ahead of Martin in many other stats, but any suggestion Martin hasn’t been extraordinarily consistent is a false narrative. He has been every bit as consistent as a player with 8 x AA gongs which is a H&A only award.

So if you were approximating players of the 21st century:

Danger: H&A player : Top-3. Finals player : 30-40. GF player : 40-50.

Dusty: H&A player : Top-5. Finals player : clear #1. GF player : clear #1.

But but but ….. it’s only 3 games
