While players are professional and make decisions based on a range of factors (success, money, working environment, State of origin) they're also human beings many of whom grew up barracking passionately for a certain club, or have certain family connections to a club.

Its a factor for many players.

Dont think (for example) Brisbane are not all over Sam Walsh being a one eyed Brisbane supporter growing up. The thinking would be it would make it more likely he stays (again presuming money, success, good working environment etc).
I respectfully disagree. I’m aware Docherty was a lifelong Carlton supporter and it’s great for current fans to hear that. However, I believe his decision to go to the Blues would’ve been just as much about wanting to leave Brisbane and that his other options weren’t as attractive as Carlton at the time.

Dylan Shiel could well end up at Carlton but I honestly believe that who the player barracked for as a child carries next to no weight when making this kind of decision.

We will find out soon enough I guess.

Hmm have you guys got 2 1st rounders?

No way will GWS get two first rounders.

Your salary cap is in a mess and you need some relief, so IMO a first rounder will get the job done.

GWS have to start shedding salary soon and make no mistake it will not just be one player, more likely to be a couple.

As for Shiels to the Hawks, I have head it’s not the one the Hawks are chasing.

We shall see I guess.

We all want Kelly but I tbought North had already signed him up?

Gotta say, been looking forward to GWS players hitting free agency. Pretty sure its on the public record that our Prez is very keen to target GWS players.

Should be a good few yrs where some talented FAs from one club that monopolised a couple of drafts, move back into circulation.

Good times.

Do try to keep up with current events, about half a dozen media commentators have said your cap is a mess and you have to offload, whether you like it or not.
I do. It's always amusing watching you lot froth over their clickbate.

Half a dozen?
Hmm think was more like 3 or 4 victorians who never leave their bubble offering said clickbate.

We have a cap like everyone else.
I disagree it's as bad as what some southerners are hoping for.

So if Shiel wants to go and its a matter of this yr or next, GWS looking at FA comp next yr so 10-18? Or whatever they can get this yr.

I could see the Dogs having a crack.

Good player. Not worth two top 10 picks this yr when could get for nix the next yr. But any proposal would need to be better than what the giants would get for FA comp.

Reckon the Dogs p7 would be in the sweet spot would do that if Shiel wanted to leave now, but wouldn't pay more.

My preference is we got him for nothing the next yr.

Obviously Shiel would have to choose a club like the Dogs as opposed everyone's club of choice, Hawthorn...

There's only one person in this thread that thinks all this smoke doesn't equal fire... There's a river in Africa that comes to mind.

They got lucky that Essendon used pick 1 on Andrew McGrath and another midfield bull in Taranto slipped through to them (Suspect Essendon would take a mulligan on that one). That kid is a gun and has already marginalised Shiel to an extent this year.

GWS would be best to move this year rather than roll the dice with FA compo next year. A pick inside the top 6-7 this year will be better than what awaits.

No way do the hawks get him for pick 16 + change.

If anything the Blues would just give up their PP and a second rounder. Well worth it.
Interesting argument

Pick 16 vs Pick 20
Pick 36 vs Pick 26

Although i don't think hawks will get him i doubt PP and 2nd is enough either. Essendon in box seat with Pick 8 and 30.

No. In my opinion.

The sad part being a hawks fan is we don't have that far to move. If Ceglar asks to go to you guys we would include him for nothing and possible add salary cap relief as well but that's it. While Essendon could offer 8 straight up.

Cant see the Giants giving away Shiel for 2 2nd rounders.

We may as well offer to pay his salary while there as well.

I have 14 GWS players who's average salary would be around $600k.
That's $7.5m, leaving $5m to pay 24 players @ an average of $208k.
Although it's an average I think they are going to have to drop a few to pay the up and comes.
But I'm just guessing.....

I have no doubt me may lose 1, 2 or even 3 stars.

But yes you are guessing.

Just like certain types in the media know how to get their clicks, by guessing or even just bullshitting.

Surely if Shiel is traded, it will be similar to the Treloar trade.

I know we gave up 2 first rounders but no idea what we got back in late picks.

I personally think Treloar was worth it.
