Re: Alpha Dynasty - DISCUSSION - Part 2

Oh please, if you were doing well you would love it :p

BFFFL is a traditional layout... BFDL is a more modern approach... Both awesome.
Probably but I find it boring. The scoring is lower (Especially weeks where you score sub 20 ;) ) as is the roster size. I just like the layout of dynasty much more.

Re: Alpha Dynasty - DISCUSSION - Part 2

I love equally all three formats...

Dynasty, BFFFL, and Danielz Scoring Format.

Each one has its own challenges and benefits, and whether i do good or bad in either I take all of them equally important.

If i had to "prefer" one of them, it would be Dynasty only because Im interested in keepers, scouting for good players and being able to "keep" them as a reward for that effort. Because there's a little more need to look ahead into the future to find those 2nd and 3rd year studs whilst also trying to field a winning team in the 1st year.

But again, i love all three formats equally, but it wouldnt have been as enjoyable if there were only 1 or 2 formats. Because I really wanted to be involved in all three.

Re: Alpha Dynasty - DISCUSSION - Part 2

The good thing about dynasty is that with a whopping 34 keepers it's still a pain in the ass to decide and keep all the players you like. You get so stuck on some players while always finding new ones you start to like, that you end up filling up your IR and your bench and end up constraining your own team by trying to hold onto them all, trying to hold onto 43 players. Much harder to let a bench player go because you fear kicking yourself the next week or so when suddenly they get called up and someone else snaps them up---presumably that could mean forever, and you just did all the work in scouting them, believing in them, only to have someone else snap them up.

That's an interesting challenge from week to week as you try to find better starters on your team to win, and therefore have to cut those long-term projects to make way for those changes.

Destroyers Early Season Summary

So far this season the Destroyers have proved to be one of the best teams in the league, despite being only 2-2. They have produced the 4th, 1st, 8th and 1st scores in each week and overall have the highest points for, 62 points clear of the next best.

Some good recruiting has seen them have the number 1 QB in Cutler, the number 1 and 2 CBs in Finnegan and Gamble, the number 1 LB in Willis, the number 1 Kicker in Matt Prater and the number 2 DE Calvin Pace.

Other notable performers include Steven Jackson with the 7th best average score among RBs and Julius Jones with the 10th best average. Terrell Owens and Reggie Wayne are both inside the top 10 averages at WR, as is Tony Scheffler at TE. Terrell Suggs has the 3rd best averages among all defensive linemen.

Overall a solid start from the Destroyers, and the future certainly looks bright!

You're a lock to win it all dspeed. You've got so much improvement to come aswell. Amazing really.

Everyone else better start tanking for picks, already!

Re: Alpha Dynasty - DISCUSSION - Part 2

Tongan Big Tongans Early Season Summary.

QB Rodgers/Campbell/Cassell/Favre Very surprised with Favre so far, for mine almost the best pick of the draft. From a dynasty perspective (dp) - solid B

RB Peterson/Forte/Stewart/Williams/Grant/Taylor The guts of this team, young and very talented. Shouldn't have to worry about drafting any RBs for a couple of years at least. dp A+

WR Fitz/Meachem/Rice/Ginn/Engram/Driver/Doucet/Thomas Larry Fitz is a top 5 and will continue to be, think Ive struck gold with Meach. DD/BE could prove short term value, the rest disappointing so far. Still think Ginn/Doucet could prove to be VG selections, Rice maybe not. My worst OP area by far. C+, only because of Larry.

TE Shockey/Shiancoe/Watson/Rosario/Utecht Pretty bad, Shockey a clear top 5 except injury, maybe Rosario could get there. Watson/Utecht useless. D

Thats all I have for the minute, happy to be 3-1, and maybe just a little unlucky not to be 4-0. If my rd 2 pick Ryan Grant pulls his finger out I reckon I'm a huge show.

Could be interested in trading for a good WR for anyone looking for a RB, and also looking to improve at QB.

Long term projects really are holding our squads back from being flexible. That idea isn't working as well as anticipated.
Once the Injuries/ benching /suspensions start kicking in, (ain't I glad Rams HC GOT FIRED :thumbsu:), the way to keep inproving is to hit the FA market with some nous of knowledge. btw GG, I'm glad you've found the pitfalls / reality of having large squads and double guessing who to play. :p

how exactly?

i know i am not having any issues with it

In my team i've got up to 8 or 9 spots which are geared to the future, if your actual team is young enough as well then that is plenty, some of my stars are also my young guys

Not sure what you are getting at?...

I had concerns at the start and it's no surprise that having a 34 list is about how many future players can play NOW rather than later. My list is more about being competitive now and having more experienced campaigners on my list. With injuries / benchings & byes, you soon realise that a list of 34 doesn't allow to work with much if your 'future' are not getting any / much game time.

you have 40, only 34 you can keep, that is plenty, i dont see how you could want more to be honest

Re: Alpha Dynasty - DISCUSSION - Part 2

Im not hating on the dynasty format at all, Woodson. Im just saying it's an interesting challenge. Different from BFFFL. Both have their plusses and minusses. Different challenges. What i wanted was to have a lot of management choices, options, and headaches. It's a good thing that some people are stocking up on "win now" players, and others are hording "future players". All part of the tactics.

Re: Alpha Dynasty - DISCUSSION - Part 2

I dont really get the negativity that Woodson is portraying. If he's saying that his squad is too old and hasnt got enough 'dynasty' players than thats what the yearly rookie drafts are for. I love it tbh. My core squad is young and is doing well now and should do for a few years.

Re: Alpha Dynasty - DISCUSSION - Part 2

I think we're all even on our trade so far Cass :p

Both RBs near the top (Though Barber stooged by the Dallas coaches :p) And neither of us playing the other part of the deal we traded for...

Woodson said this...."btw GG, I'm glad you've found the pitfalls / reality of having large squads and double guessing who to play."

But the double-guessing is exactly the fun here. More managment decision-making. Maybe the reason why Woodson complains is because he has a busier life and prefers the easier smaller rosters (like BFFFL) where all he has to do is choose bye week back-ups from a huge list of available FAs. Whereas Dynasty requires a lot more reading and game watching to find players, because with huge rosters most are all snapped up. So the back half of your bench is all about finding tomorrow's stars. But as the season progresses, injuries, etc, then it's a fun "headache" because if you do bring in any "win now" starters it may be at the cost of letting go one of your future prospects.

And that again is the whole interest factor of the management.

If I had my way, I would've implemented a taxi list and a salary cap, where you have an even deeper management experience trying to work your roster into a salary cap.

Re: Alpha Dynasty - DISCUSSION - Part 2

Looking for a QB... All trades looked through and if I like the basis I will try to make up a decent counter offer.

Also my lenience over the next few weeks can be based on Quinn's starting possibilities....

Re: Alpha Dynasty - DISCUSSION - Part 2

If you couldn't tell, I took a MASSIVE gg approach to my bench... That is, very little of my bench players are playing now and geared towards the future. most are too deep in the charts to get even 1's and 2's this year. QBs mostly. Quinn, Johnson, and when TJ was kicked out (Thanks a lot Childress :p) it killed my QB depth (From the draft straight I wasn't planning to start a QB in the OP spot).

WR depth ain't too much chop but i'm happy with my future depth there... RB and D is fine, if only Maroney could get off his fat arse :p
