thorne89 So what reserve selector are we using? I'm happy to give Ardent a bit more time but he's had almost the whole day
From what I can see he was tagged around 10.30 this morning, so he has until 10.30 tonight. I'm sure he'll pick by then, if not I'll probably go on Knightmare's draft order.

Just give them a pretty boy midfielder under 188 cm and ignore their needs. It is their usual drafting strategy.

Fremantle - Pick 27
Luke Partington (SA – MID/FWD)

As I've already picked up a couple of talls, one I rate pretty highly (higher than Skinner) and the other a rough diamond who could be anything, I decided to go for best available.

It came down to Partington, Lovell and Fiorini.
FWIW - I don't rate Rioli at all, same with Cole.
Skinner looks to be a goer but I'm not sold, same with Glass McCasker.

Partington wins out, I'm very happy to pick him up this late in the draft, I think he's a guaranteed best 22 player.

Luke Partington - SA (182 cm, 75 kg outside leaning midfielder)
Style: Ryan Griffen early career/Leigh Montagna

Luke Partington is an outside midfielder with a capable inside game. He has been in the system a while, having played a role in South Australia's championship win last year, but more as a pure outside midfielder then. This year he has added an inside string to his bow, showing a natural feel for the inside and a good read of the tap. He has a good clearance player and has some reasonable spacial awareness. However, the outside is still Partington's specialty. His running patterns are superb, with his positioning constantly dangerous; he always provides an option for the ball carrier. With ball in hand he is reasonable, with his kicking solid without being spectacular. His vision is good; he scans the ground before disposing and always looks to take the ball through the centre if possible. He is quick without being electric and likes to take on the game and break the lines - he has also got handy burst speedemerging from stoppages. He possesses reasonable agility and evasion. Defensively he is working on running both ways and applying tackling pressure but still has a long way to come. The issue with Partington is his lack of a stand-out trait. Not dissimilar to Clarke and even O'Kearney in being jacks of all trades but masters of none; he is a good kick, quick, agile, has an inside game, is relatively clean and can defend but he's not dominant in any - there is nothing to carry and define his game. He does not hit the scoreboard enough, as well as lacking positional versatility. With all that said, his production has been superb at any level and he is still a good bet to improve a side, just perhaps not the kind of player to build around.

Luke Partington
Club:
Norwood
Position: Outside midfielder
Height: 182 cm
Weight: 78 kg
Player comparison: Leigh Montagna

Luke Partington looks to be a really well-rounded midfielder. He’s got a bit of speed, and he’s the type to work hard all game, so he’s always providing a link up target on the outside. He’s a pretty neat kick and a nice decision maker too. He’s become a better inside midfielder this year, using his smarts and speed to read the tap and win clearances rather than just using his strength.

I don't think a team could go wrong with Partington really, everything I've seen about him suggests he'll be a solid player at the next level and for a while to come. I'm just not convinced he becomes a true top midfielder. He isn't as fast or as skillful as some make him out to be, but he does everything well. I still think he's good enough to be a best 22 player at AFL level though.

Alright boys, I know some of you won't like this selection, with a relatively unimpressive highlights package, but he's someone I would consider top 30 in this draft.

West Coast Eagles select Tom Cole at pick 28

Write up to come.

Was strongly considering flashier types in Daniel Rioli, Aidyn Johnson and Kieran Lovell, as well as potentially a tall like Skinner, but ultimately opted for best available.

Hope you boys aren't too disappointed, Ive got some quality selection to come, but they'll last a bit later in the draft.

Cheers. Glad some people aren't too disappointed. Looks pretty solid. Tough, composed, good skills and versatile.
I think half back is a bit of a need now (Waters gone, Butler and Ellis going...), and could also help us push Nelson further upfield if we wanted.

What about Ryan Burton you gize?
