Eagles/Dogs game: most critical of the last few weeks

You're talking about Aussie rules right?
No sorry, Im referring to the mythical game of ruckman jumping and tapping the ball to an uncontested midfielder every tap out, while the opposition just stand and watch in amazement as the ball just lands repeatedly on a chest, unopposed. Or on the times it doesn't and hits the ground it just automatically bounces directly into pridus's hands on the run without an opponent nearby. The game where one ruckman is an evangelical beast where every touch is to an uncontested advantage and the opposition will be so completely bedazzled by this they will have no response. Yet this team has dealt with and won games against such angels with wings rated higher, and performing higher, Some WC BF fans believe this halo that archangel Nic attires, will be the one and only undiminished facet of the game that will result in a demolition of an opposition. 25 hitouts per game, with an average of 40% to advantage, 11-12 hitouts to advantage a game is the deriding factor as to why WC sit second on the ladder. The same afl where Jacobs averages 30 hit outs a game, and similiary 40% to "advantage". Yet the dogs pretty much flogged this team, as their opinion of the ruck is mainly inconsequential. No one has stated Nic isn't a great ruckman, and on the weekend he will dominate easily. All I am saying is it is not the biggest and major factor of a football game, as the dogs, and other teams have proven over the year, by sending mid fielders in to ruck. SO get off your high horses and read what people actually say. No one has bagged nic on what he does. Have I watched the Eagles this year... some. Have you watched the dogs this year without a ruckman or 15-20 game ruckman. The centre clearances are sorted by the mid field, regardless how good the ruckman is. Thats the footy Ive been watching.

I don't like to just point out one thing to prove my point, especially as most of what you have written about makes sense and proves your point but I did read what you wrote before and you wrote.

ruck is no longer a defining point of footy anymore. Nick will probably get hand to ball first, ten to one, but there will rarely be advantage from it.

I disagree. The advantage of having Nic in your side is almost unmeasurable.
I'm not on my high horse. Nic's a great ruckman but his overall efforts around the ground aren't up with a Goldy or Stef Martin, but his influence on a game through his ruck taps is second to none.
His ability to get his hand on the ball first is massive for us and our midfields improvement this year is on the back of his tap and clearance work.

We havn't been noted for our rucking all year. we have gone into a few games without a ruckman. Think it was Gws smashed roughead 52-3 or something in the ruck, but we still managed to win. Beveridge doesn't place much importance of the ruck, has managed to deal with other ways. As long as nic isnt jumping up on his own hopefully it won't be an issue as it has been all year. We havnt won the ruck contest in a single game this year. Yet Campbell is getting better.
That was Sandilands vs Cordy and we lost, whoever was going third man up that day had more hitouts than Cordy that day IIRC, Minson and Roughead killed Mumford 2 weeks later.

NicNat is a centre square/clearance beast like Sandi, Mumford, Lobbe, Minson, Maric etc, just he uses his athletic abilities in the ruck contest such as his massive vertical leap to jump over opponents, where as the others use their height, positioning to get under the drop of the footy and strength to dominate their opponents, he is much better at ground level than those blokes also. Campbell will have his work cut out for him today so we can only hope he can break even and that NicNat's chemistry with his mids are down

Callum Sinclair will have to be looked after also, WCEs talls in the forward half could be a problem if their midfield move it quick and efficiently enough

If you tried looking up some other stats maybe, you'd see WCE win about twice as many centre clearances with Nic in the ruck as opposed to when he isn't.

There is no other player in league with such a huge differential to clearances from them being in the middle, ruck or otherwise.

So Quinten the dogs look full of running, amazing form line, a future superstar forward in Stringer and mid in Bontempelli they look like certainties to take it up to an eagles side missing most of their backline?

NOT ANYMORE!

I really really like the dogs. They will be an absolute superstar team very very soon.

Picken out was massive as he corrects some of the clearance differential. I'll not mention our outs as we've been without all season.

So how did NicNat go?

Naitanui had 48 hitouts and only played 61% of the game.
Sinclair had 22 hitouts.

Redpath had 8 and Campbell 12 hitouts.

But yeah rucking has nothing to do with AFL anymore. We won by 77 points because that's what Jesus wanted.

West Coast seriously depleted backline coming up against a hard running, free scoring doggies team.

Critical for the Dogs top 4 chances as Sydney seem to have the easier run home.
Critical for West Coast as Hawthorn have a 3 week holiday on the run home.
A loss here and West Coast are cooked for top two with a hard game against Adelaide to come.
They get LeCras and possibly Naitanui back which will help.

I think Bullies by 4-6 goals.

What's the thoughts of the BigFooty collective?
Bit you tipped freo to beat north as well lach

Was a great weekend of footy wouldn't you agree

Stringer is a deadset beast.

Great running side the Dogs
, just got lost that last qtr.
When the game is on our own terms we are a good running side, no way we are a great one, great ones win flags

Beveridge's all out attack game plan backfired badly, I'd like to know what scores from turnovers were for West Coast
