I wouldn’t take Khawaja, and whilst I’d certainly take him on the tour, Konstas shouldn’t open over there IMO.

Cummins, Hazlewood can stay home, and I’m not sure I’d bother taking Starc either.

Not bad but I can't see them dropping Konstas for a 33 year old Handscomb.

Horses for courses for me. I'm no fan of Handscomb but you have to ask who is going to score more over the course of 4 innings. The fact that Jadeja quickly dismissed Konstas boxing day makes me think he's unlikely to do too well in Sri Lanka.

i floated the idea him at 6 and beau at 8.. it's a free hit tour and will be turning day 1 so nothing to lose really

add to that i can't see having Konstas at the top happening you just can't have him opening at this stage. rather he play out the state long form and learn his game
I hate the idea of nothing to lose in a test series, they should all be treated as valuable.

Khawaja (would move past him personally)
Head
Labuschagne
Smith
Handscomb
Webster
Carey
Starc
Murphy
Lyon
Boland/Kuhnemann

Squad: Konstas, Boland/Kuhnemann, Inglis, Swepson, Hazlewood if fit
I’d leave Konstas at home to play shield and replace him with McSweeney and give him a chance in the middle order over Handscomb but otherwise pretty much who I’d select.

The idea Hansdscomb is a must-pick for the subcontinent is up there with picking a second spinner in Sydney as one of the great modern cricketing furphies.

The bizarre jigging around of the established batting order on base hunches was a significant part of our poor performances in India last time around. They didn't do that during the last Sri Lankan tour, so you'd hope they don't this time around.

Khawaja
Konstas
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Webster
Carey
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Murphy/Kunhemann/Roccichiolli

McSweeney
Inglis
Boland
Second/Third spinner

Given Cummins was absent the last time we played two spinners, I think you're looking at Starc sitting on the pine (and Webster opening the bowling) if they go down that route. I think two is more likely (with Webster and/or Head as the third spin option if needed.)

Starc averages 17 with the ball in Sri Lanka and 15 at Galle where both Tests are being played. He should be the first (and maybe only) quick selected.

Gaz likes the bowling marks Starc makes which sounds funny but maybe he gets the nod based on that, Jayasuriya is going to be the big risk. luckly we don't have to many left handers
can't play two quicks the deck will be so dry NZ learnt that the hard way

First test would look something like this given Cummins won't be there. I'd give Head the opportunity to skipper and forget the idea of going back to Smith. It is the perfect time to give someone else the opportunity.

Konstas
Head (C)
Marnus ( happy to leave him out) Massive Decline over last few years
Smith
Handscomb
Webster
Carey ( Inglis snapping at his heels)
Starc
Kuhneman
Boland

Murphy
Abbott
Swepson
McSweeney
Inglis

Absolutely he deserves to be there, my comment had nothing to do with his quality.

Just wonder if we'd be better off resting him, getting him ready for the WTC final & England next summer.

As shown above, the horse doesn't perform as well at the course as people like to think. Handscomb shouldn't be anywhere near it. And what in the f### are people posting sides with all 3 of Murphy, Lyon and Kuhnemann? Not going to happen. One spinner in for Cummins. That's it.

Final is 5 months later than the second test.

He's scored the second, third and fourth most runs in each Asian tour he's been part of.

Also the reason is generally the second seamer generally opens for 4/5 overs at Galle in the first dig and rarely bowls in the second. Webster is more than capable to do that for both tests, so you're kind of hamstringing yourself by picking Boland.

Every test series is important but it’s a two test series in a spinner’s paradise at Galle and we’ve qualified for the WTC Final so I’d be taking the opportunity to freshen up the team and look at a different line-up to help prepare our next generation of players for the future. Assuming a squad of 15 selected.

1. Konstas
2. Head (c)
3. McSweeney
4. Smith
5. Connolly
6. Webster
7. Carey
8. Abbott (Neser preferred if fit)

Squad: Inglis (+), Rocchicioli, Handscomb, Richardson

Absent: Cummins
Injured: Green, Hazlewood
Managed: Khawaja, Labuschagne, Lyon, Starc

Every single test match counts in my books...Plus with the team only winning 2 out the last 10 away series, they will be desperate to get a series victory
