Sure but then if we are doing that why not play Jyhe or Bartlett?
Like I said a couple of posts ago, I’d be tempted to play Richardson!

But Boland bowling test overs to have him cherry ripe for the WTC final is the priority. If Boland doesn’t need to bowl those over then very happy for Richo to get the gig.

Just feel you need a guy with a fraction more pace they will be used as purely and simply a burst impact bowler in these conditions you aren’t expecting quicks to bowl 30+ in these conditions

I’d be happy for Jhye/Bartlett and Boland to go, and then make a call once we see the pitch.

Starc is going to be there for sure unless you have something I don't know there, he was fine in sydney he'll be fine in 3 weeks with a break

I agree they won’t suit Boland’s bowling. Prioritising his overs if he needs them before the final. Otherwise Richo would be perfect if Starc needs a rest.

Surely he could do that in Shield cricket though, this is where the Cummins thing is very annoying

If Boland needs to bowl, it should be at international level. Yes if Cider was playing that would change everything.

He just needs overs regardless where that is. I doubt he plays so he's basically over there as a net bowler

Ok I wasn't aware of that.

Wouldn't it be an ideal opportunity for Head to captain the side in this instance?

I'd rather him focus on being a bat, not against it but I think Smith is the right choice. Could also have Carey do it too.

Why are people talking about Connolly as an all-rounder?

He might become one, but at this stage he's a level below Travis Head as far as part-time bowlers go. He doesn't have a wicket from his 4 First Class matches.

Someone like McSweeney or even Renshaw would be a better option than him as a batter that can bowl if required (not saying the latter should go, just giving examples).

I saw Glenn Maxwell was asked what he thought if his own prospects.

Am I missing something? Is this a serious proposal?

I don't think realistically he is.

Seems every summer people go down that path. He is a great short form player but not up to Test with the bat or the ball.

Yes, for sure Westie. But assuming he’s fit he’s in. Given the dead rubber nature of the series (if any series can be a dead rubber) I wouldn’t be against letting him get cherry ripe for WTC.
I think if there is any doubt with his fitness he shouldn't tour....it's too much of a risk with the WTC and the ashes

We played Hazelwood got burnt he couldn't get through a test

I would hate to see Starc break down in Galle and be in doubt for the WTC

If we're keeping score then bowling average becomes an important stat:
Which 3 bowlers would you pick base on their bowling averages:
19.86
Joel Paris
20.95
Jhye Richardson
23.09
Pat Cummins
23.74
Scott Boland
24.12
Josh Hazelwood
26.96
Mitchel Starc
Depends a lot on the sample size.

And averages aren't score, and aren't indicative of result. ;)
