Test (Early) Sri Lanka tour squad predictions

I feel like it's a bit early for him?
He’s not in the best 6 batsmen in the country I agree, but as I’ve mentioned earlier if there was ever a time to have a look at the next generation at test level, this tour is it. Don’t want him to go if he’ll just be carrying drinks though, would be better off in shield. Hopefully this means no Maxwell on tour.

McSweeney in the squad from what I have been reading around the place. Now that these tests don't matter in regards to qualifying for the WTC I'd much rather see us back him in the middle order than see Handscomb playing again. Can't say I've ever understood the hype around Handscomb's ability to spin, perhaps above average in comparison to other but not so spectacular that he should be a must pick at 33. Seems a pretty short sighted choice to me.

McSweeney made 54 and 127no against a NSW lineup featuring Lyon this season, that's all I need to know to give him a crack over Handscomb if it does come down to a choice between those two.
Handscomb's ability against spin is over rated, gets pinned lbw by a quick arm ball more often than he does by pace bowlers. And supposedly his weakness was against pace by playing deep in his crease.

Why are we taking a bloke that has played 4 FC games without a wicket?
Averaging 60 with bat, it might be a bit early yet, who knows? But this sort of gamble has been forced on us in the end by the reluctance of selectors to blood new batsmen over the past couple of years despite and aging top 6.

Seems like Head is going to open with Uzzie. Do we still take Konstas? I think I'd rather see him get a few Shield games in than run drinks in Sri Lanka.

One of Inglis/McSweeney can then bat at 5, with Handscombe there in case of emergency.
Similar thoughts with Konstas and keep him away from the remaining T20 games and let him play grade cricket.

Because it’s a tour we can mainly. Has potential he won’t play and that’s my issue though if he isn’t playing I’d rather him in shield

His form is overrated too. What’s he average away from the Junction Oval? Harris is like this too a bucket on the Junction but drops significantly without that.

We don’t need Handscomb anyway.

McSweeney is a good player of spin himself and is way younger

Only can play 1 more t20 game anyway before they meet up or something they are doing red ball practice as well from all reports

Absolutely rate Cooper Connolly but it does seem a bit early for him. Think he needs some shield games to really develop himself further. Excited to see him in the set up though.

There’s an old saying if you are good enough you are old enough. If you are talented enough you are good enough. Cummings and Konstas picked off very little FC form. Backing the selectors in they rarely get these ones wrong

I’m fine with Connolly. I’m always worried we are a chance to lose such young talented guys like him to the shorter forms. Get him in the set up, don’t throw him to wolves and set him up to fail like McSweeney

So with your selection policy you’d only pick Tasmanians? Can’t pick anyone from NSW, SA or WA playing on the best batting surfaces in the country and in NSW and SAs case, usually grounds not even a decent size.

That would be silly. He should play in Sri Lanka - it's a free but for him and us, there's nothing at stake in these games at all.

It will be great exposure on spinning wickets against high quality bowlers, and even if he doesn't score runs, it's not a failure, it's a valuable learning experience.

We are delusional if we open the batting with Khawaja on this tour. What is the fricken point? Surely getting games into Konstas in all conditions is a priority over giving Khawaja a game. Goodness me these guys are turds.

Why we’d draft in anyone over the age of 30 for this tour is beyond me. Two tests to have a look at who is going to regenerate the side after the WTC final and Ashes.
No test team ever has just sent a development squad. You don’t need to rebuild like an AFL list.

Agree 100%! konstas and Connolly need to play or stay in Australia. They need games
