If Horse allows Hodge to rack up an easy 30 across half back as the spare man I think I'll lose my mind.

Played in the midfield on Saturday for a fair period and also had stints forward. I'd expect to see him in the guts at the start.

nah mate, feel free to respond any way you want. Unlike your Board's bully mods, ours play fair and square, just like our team :p

Our mods are ok - think a couple of them are admin actually. TBH I don't usually post on team boards.

It might not count for much but I think the SCG would suit Hawthorn's game better than ANZ. I don't recall Hawthorn playing ANZ all that well in the past and I believe their recent record at the SCG is much better.

If Mcglynn doesnt get up and he probably wont, Tommy is going to have a big game on brother from another mother, Sammy. Dont even worry about collecting possies, just blanket him. Just watch out for a knee. Breust and rioli will be trouble for shawy and smithy who are both down on form. Missing Rohan already tbh. Can we play KJ up forward more, and pull Buds out the forward 50? Towers for Heeney, Zak stays, Cunninghams been sub for a couple games so is probably either sub or ressie bound - so robinson as sub maybe. Richards probably comes back but a little nervous

Expect them to win but hopefully we keep it pretty. 3 goals

the one thing we did last time we met was took our chances.

hawks didnt take theirs

Suspect they wont miss the same chances this time, Can sydney make the most of theirs, cos recent form honestly suggests hawks in a canter

Yeah this is true but have a look at the last two times we beat them, Hawthorn were flying coming into those games as well albeit against lesser opposition.

Round 7 2014 - Hawthorn 27.13.175 def St. Kilda 4.6.30
Round 8 2014 - Sydney 15.17.107 def Hawthorn 13.10.88

Round 7 2015 - Hawthorn 24.11.155 def Melbourne 7.8.50
Round 8 2015 - Hawthorn 9.15.69 def by Sydney 11.7.73

Form lines tend to count for less going into these games.

Hawks are a shit interstate team North and West of the border..

We're actually not too bad. We've won 2 against you guys over the past 4 years in Sydney and have had some wins over the Crows and in WA over the past few years too.

This year and last we've lost interstate to PA, Swans and Freo (we'll ignore GWS as we simply fluffed that) but all those sides are near the top echelon and are always hard to beat at home and we still ran them close despite taking some depleted sides in to those matches for whatever reason.

Certainly our interstate record isn't great but we are still bloody hard to beat anywhere. I'm just going off the top of my head but I can't even recall a blow out over the last 2 years. Most losses are by a goal or two tops and even when we've played shockingly or been clearly outplayed we've still found ourselves in positions to win. Perhaps North by 30 odd last year is the worst of the past 2 seasons.

A question for the Hawks fans here, any idea of whether Roughead or Frawley will get up this week?

As deathevocation said, they'll both be very unlikely. I don't think some of our fans realise the magnitude of Rough's situation. Even if the surgery itself was successful, the area in question still underwent a fair deal of trauma and needs that time for the wound to heal before taking the field again.

Geez, sounds nasty...Hopefully he has a quick recovery and gets back soon, awesome player to watch when he's on.

If we play like we did in round 8/round 2 we win the game in a canter

Doubt that very much. Firstly, we rarely get beaten in a canter. Secondly, you only just scraped in that game after we wasted opportunity upon opportunity to ice that game, without even playing particularly well. We currently look to be in better form. Sometimes form means little going in to these matches anyway but we look to be playing a great deal better than we were then and I'd suggest your guys will have to play better than that match too if they want to get another win.

Would you want a Swans player going down with a knee or out of the game with a corkie?

Its really dangerous sticking the knee up like that.

Players have always put their knees up against on coming traffic to protect themselves. Mitchell has been lined up twice this year and his reaction is an instinctive protection reflex IMO.

This video shows a severe injury caused by your bloke and there's no reason to even consider punishment because just like Mitchell he was protecting his own body against being cleaned up front on.

That was in a marking contest!

Mitchell didn't even have the ball when the blokes lined him up. At least Shaw had reason to be creating a contest. Mitchell has even more right to protect himself from being lined up off the ball IMO.

Fair enough on the point that the hawks barely get beaten in a canter, I agree we just scraped home at the MCG and I agree your form is better than ours heading into the match. But I say this because this game is at ANZ, MCG is a different ball game - even at our best the hawks are still 60/40, whereas at ANZ hawks haven't been world beaters at all in fact even in 2013 round 23 I gave us no chance whatsoever and Hawks only managed to win by 12 (pulling away in the last quarter). And that's why I say play the type of game we did in round 2/round 8 we win easily (note by easily I don't mean 10 goals). Then again that's just my opinion and I could be completely wrong.

Pyke, Nankveris, Naismith whatever same type of dinosaur ruckman same effectivess zilch.

Seriously just throw a utility in the ruck i dont care if you have to bring in Derickx and just run him into the ground all night we are not going to beat Hawthorn with Tippett in the ruck.

Sure that's true. However the flip side is last year when you guys got us by 19 or something (pulling away in the last Q :D) we had Lake and Mitchell out injured from the week before, Shiels and Hodge pull out pre game, Gibbo rip his tit off during the game and Cyril subbed out by half time. Was one of those 'whatever could go wrong' games and we played poorly and still found ourselves in front during either the 3rd or 4th quarter. Just emphasising my point that we'll always be hard to beat, no matter the circumstances.

In the end it's always hard to beat the best teams on their home decks (unless you're Richmond.....they just struggle at home) so it doesn't matter if it's Freo in WA, Swans in Sydney or us at the G, you have to play well when travelling and have a lot go right to get the win.

One thing I'm not sure of is which of your 2 Sydney grounds would suit either side better? I assume you guys prefer SCG right?

Looks more opportunistic than instinctive to me in the video. And the kneeing incident with Scott Thompson really takes away any benefit of the doubt he might otherwise deserve.

A small fine should help him change his approach to self preservation.

Think I have a vague recollection of the Thompson one and maybe that's a different case where self preservation wasn't an issue and a penalty of some kind may have been applicable. Would have to see it again to make a call. However, when it comes to blokes considerably bigger lining you up well off the ball I have little sympathy for them if they cop a corkie from the small bloke raising the knee for protection (as Tippett did) and see no need to change at all..........although the media outrage will not doubt ensure he will have to. To me Fyfe's knee drop straight in to Shiels chest while he was on the ground is a much more 'newsworthy' example of a punishable use of the knees.
