Seriously just throw a utility in the ruck i dont care if you have to bring in Derickx and just run him into the ground all night we are not going to beat Hawthorn with Tippett in the ruck.

Derickx was injured in the reserves last week.

Granted I haven't seen the Brissy game yet but I am surprised at the negativity for this weekend. We will be without Rough and Frawley and Gunston is coming off the flu to end all flus apparently. It is also at the dogshite excuse for a surface that we never play really well on. It is a massive game for both seasons though, there is no doubting that. You win and you keep us at bay and move 2 games ahead in the top 4, making it hard for us to jump you on the ladder. We win and we jump you on the ladder making top 2 far easier to achieve. Who's cuisine will reign supreme?

Dan Hannebery
- I would be surprised if Hannebery wasn't the Swans next captain. He's having I think the best season of his career so far. He's likely to be leading Sydney's best & fairest right now, is in contention for another All-Australian, and would have to be a smokey for the Brownlow medal as well. One of the best midfielders in the game, he's also hard to stop when he's playing at his best as he did on Sunday against the Brisbane Lions with 34 disposals, 6 marks, 6 tackles, 4 clearances, 5 inside 50s, 7 score involvements and 82% disposal efficiency. If he fires again on Saturday night against the Hawks, Sydney will win.

Josh Kennedy - Another dominant display by Kennedy on the weekend against Brisbane picking up a career-high 41 disposals, 9 tackles, 9 clearances. Such a difficult match-up for the opposition to try and contain, as he's so strong around the packs dishing out the handballs and winning the clearances makes him one of the best inside midfielders in the game. He's the one the Hawks have to try and curb, otherwise Sydney will win the game.

Nick Smith
- Best small defender in the competition. Rarely gets beaten and knows how to nullify the oppositions best small forwards. Expect Smith to again match-up on Rioli. A player who Smith has beaten on a number of occasions in the past.

Luke Parker - Tough and durable Parker has taken his game to another level in 2015. Kicks goals, can play as a half forward and in the midfield, he's one of Sydney's best young players. He's one of many midfielders for the Swans who pose a huge threat on Saturday night.

Lance Franklin - Whilst Buddy wasn't at his best on the weekend, he still contributed for the Swans with 3 second half goals and yet again proved to be the difference. Currently sits on 698 career goals from 217 matches at an average of 3.22 goals per game. He may not be far off from having a breakout game. Hopefully it's not this week.

Tom Mitchell - Young Swans midfielder Mitchell has slotted in nicely since he's come back into the side. His inclusion into the team gives Sydney another midfielder who can push forward and kick goals and it also allows players like Jack and Kennedy to spend more time up forward. One of the Swans greatest strengths is the amount of midfielders who kick goals each game.

This game will be won and lost in the midfield. The battle between Kennedy, Jack, Hannebery and Parker vs Mitchell, Lewis, Shiels and Burgoyne will ultimately decide the outcome of this game. The Hawks can't afford another slow start like the one they gave up in Round 8 against the Swans away from home. If the Swans get off to another good start they will win. Expect this game to be low-scoring and fairly tight throughout the night. The winner will secure a top 4 spot. A massive 8 point game up for grabs here.

The most crucial part in determining the result of this game could be the first quarter because in my opinion that's when Hawthorn are most vulnerable. For the Swans to win this match I reckon we would need a fast start and build an early lead. In the Hawthorn games I've watched this year the Hawks have had some slow starts and tend to only kick into gear around the 10 minute mark of the second quarter and by the third quarter they're hard to stop (won 13 out of 14 3rd Quarters in 2015). I would say we need burst out of the blocks (kick 5+ goals in the 1st Quarter) and ideally lead at half-time by at least 2-3 goals to be in with a chance because the Hawks will come out firing in the third and we tend to drop off a bit in the second half.

Yep, very good point. I'm usually pretty confident (although still apprehensive if it's close) that we will get on top if we are close or in front at half time.

Our losses v you and Essendon required us to come back from big margins to capture the lead before the effort took its toll and we faded again late. If we stay close early we are fairly consistent at putting on some margin as the game progresses.

Nice write-up, I think Ben McGlynn might be doubtful as he hasn't played any reserves for over a month now. Hannebery is in my opinion without doubt our most consistent and dangerous mid this year, been doing good inside grunt work and providing a lot of crucial outside run. Kennedy has been a bit down this year from previous years despite the stats, he's still getting high numbers but perhaps not with as much impact. It seems his disposal efficiency has fallen off a fair bit this year. Tom Mitchell's been a great addition to the midfield this year, Craig Bird is a very solid hard-working team player but Mitchell has just added a bit more class to the inside.

No need to be a genius to realise just how good the Hawks are playing atm .... it's a tad worrying to think what may happen in this game. If we don't bring our 'A' game then we'll lose, our (fans) confidence in beating the Hawks will take a dive, while the team will be doing extra homework on tactics and game plan.

We're good in the mids and up forward but our backline is something around average these days. We need to win that midfield battle to be a chance. Should be a ripper but who knows !?

I would seriously like to "like" your post .... but as you tipped the Hawks by 3 then I'm afraid to say :p

Swans by there barest of margins -1

As deathevocation said, they'll both be very unlikely. I don't think some of our fans realise the magnitude of Rough's situation. Even if the surgery itself was successful, the area in question still underwent a fair deal of trauma and needs that time for the wound to heal before taking the field again.
So if we win you will default to Roughead out - box hill were playing?

Definitely need Mcglynn in the team if he's fit - adds a couple of goals to our team plus experience and hardness.

Hope Bird is able to work himself back into team at some stage for another crack as he's convinced me enough over the journey he has an uncanny ability to bob up for crucial goals but suspect highly unlikely for this game given he's been out for a fair period along with intensity of being a big game.

On the fringes, would like to see heeney in and cunningham to stay with both towers/robinson out.

Hawks are a bunch of wily old bullying pr!cks, so we need to have as much experience as possible in the team.

Mitchell didn't even have the ball when the blokes lined him up. At least Shaw had reason to be creating a contest. Mitchell has even more right to protect himself from being lined up off the ball IMO.
Idiot, you turn side on to protect yourself, Mitchell knees front on with the point of knee, he is a little grub and deserved to be given a spell for last week. If it was Goodes People like you who will inevitably boo him on the weekend would be crying bloody murder. Whats the Hawks fans "reason" for booing him again?

Good write up

Suspect mcglynn wont play

Be sad to see jones go personally so hope that is not the way we go

Nick smith is not currently playing like the best small defender in the game, far from it

Pyke, Nankveris, Naismith whatever same type of dinosaur ruckman same effectivess zilch.

Seriously just throw a utility in the ruck i dont care if you have to bring in Derickx and just run him into the ground all night we are not going to beat Hawthorn with Tippett in the ruck.

tippett is actually a real good ruckman in my opinion

Man we really miss mcglynns presence, his ferocity towards the players an ball is needed badly, id like to see him an heeney in for towers an Robinson, those calling for pyke an shaw to be dropped really don't know how longmire works, ROK situation was a one off

Would have come up for this if it was at the SCG but have been to ANZ twice and Spotless this year and CBF making the journey from the city to the olympic park area again... As for the match this should be a ripper and a legit 50-50 in my eyes.
