The Filth Medal

Every season we like to acknowledge a rising star at the club by presenting The Filth Medal. Named after former-captain and list-builder premiere, The Filth Wizard, the medal is awarded to the best performing player who has started the season with less than 20 games under their belt.

In Season 31 we debuted two rookies (from a to z): andleanback and Zoops, whilst 11kgm has continued eligibility from season 30. Not every season can get you an EKA winner but in Season 31 the potential was shown for many shiny things to come from this source in the fututre.

This season we award Zoops The Filth Medal as the Hawks’ rising star for season 31.

[PhenomenalV1]

YOTC Plate

The YOTC plate is named for legendary Hawk forward YOTC, who holds the leading goals per game average for the club. It is awarded to the leading goal scorer of the club for the season. Fittingly as it is the most obvious award we'll get it done first up instead a poor attempt at building suspense over the rest of the season recap.

The winner of the YOTC plate for season 31 is PhenomenalV1 with 38 goals.

PV1 rotated through full forward, half-forward flank and forward pocket on his way to topping the goal kickers' list by 4 goals over second placed (and last season's winner) Itsmyshow. Notably PV1 only had 2 more scoring shots than IMS so both were in it up to the end with IMS outscoring PV1 5 goals to 2 in the last three games.​

East Side Hawks 16.7.103 lost to Gold City Royals 17.12.114 @ The Eyrie

It was a mixed bag at The Eyrie. We were celebrating legend Biggie 's 350th game, and hoped we could pull out something spectacular to celebrate. Although we fought back well from a 5 goal deficit at half-time and even took the lead, the Royals squeaked it in the final quarter. Despite the loss, some silver linings emerged: Zoops delivered his very first goal, and PhenomenalV1 scored 8 of them! SM was best in the middle with 27 disposals, and PMBangers and Chipmunk had 8 and 9 tackles each. Hate was untouchable, scoring 5 frees for during the game.

Or, how to ruin Hate 's 350th... Following our loss to the Royals, we were looking to bounce back and establish parity in the win count. Unfortunately it was not meant to be and we slipped to 2-4 and outside the 8.

As for the game itself, we got to a good start, with 4 different scorers to push us to a first quarter lead. The first goal was shot by the in-form PhenomenalV1 . This continued in the second quarter, where we dug deep and were ahead by 10. The goals were spread around, with 7 goals by different players (PhenomenalV1 Golumless Itsmyshow Chipmunk PMBangers Hate 11kgm ) displaying our team ethic.

Unfortunately, we then fell to a 5-0 goal blitz from the Bombers, and they finished 4 goals ahead at the end of the quarter. Despite a valiant effort in the final quarter, we finished 5 goals behind. Best for us was PMBangers with 26 disposals, 4 tackles and a goal.

Four in a row and an unhappy 150th Hawks game for Milera2Betts ...

The less said about this game, the better as we fall to a fourth defeat in a row. We also lost in the Warriors Song Contest, where we were beaten by a song from the 1980s and a song from the 1870s.

In the game itself, we were over 20 points behind before we scored our first goal from TY24. 52 points behind at half time, 45 at Q3 and the game was long gone. However, we rallied in the final quarter to keep the percentage somewhat respectable.

As for positives, over half of our team scored a goal - so we are showing some great teamwork. There were goals for por_please_ya and eth-dog (2 each) and half the team scored one goal apiece. Agent93 had a team high 21 disposals, while Chipmunk again led the tackle count with 5. PMBangers was making a nuisance of himself, drawing 4 frees.

East Side Hawks 15.12.102 defeated Sin City Swamprats 12.12.84 @ The Underground

We FINALLY snapped a four game losing streak with an impressive win against the Swamprats. It was a cagey opening, trading goal-for-goal and we ended the first quarter 2 points up. The first goal was by Itsmyshow , which was so good it made the sim quote hip hop tracks. He scored 2 in the quarter and was assisted well by a goal by Milera2Betts .

But it was the second quarter where we really shone. 5 unanswered goals in one of our best quarters all season. por_please_ya was accumulating disposals like they were Easter eggs on a hunt and PMBangers was tackling anything that moved. However, we had been in promising positions before, so the 34 point lead at the break could easily be recovered. The Captain team talk make that clear!

To the delight of the fans, the Hawks responded. Some stout defence meant that we maintained our lead. Despite a rally by the Rats which cut the deficit to only 2 goals in the final quarter, some crucial goals by Chipmunk , PhenomenalV1 and Biggie pushed the game beyond sight. We won!!

There were some fantastic individual performances - PhenomenalV1 (league: 10th top goalkicker) and Itsmyshow both scored 4 goals, PMBangers had 13 tackles and 6 FF (league: 8th for tackles) and por_please_ya 32 disposals (league: 7th for disposals). Hate had a rucking masterstroke, passing duties to Golumless so he could get 27 disposals and 4 FF himself.

East Side Hawks 8.13.61 lost to Mount Buller Demons 20.9.129 @ The Eyrie

Another loss means we have lost 5 of the last 6 and at the bottom of the ladder. Looking at the stats it appeared that we were outfought in the tackle count, which was part of the reason for the loss and there will be some extra defensive training sessions this week.

It was a high possession game but one where inaccuracy cost us again. The Demons always had a lead and even 33 disposals by Biggie and 31 by BOG por_please_ya wasn't enough to stem the tide. Special mention to Zoops with 27 disposals.
