Economic downturn will sink boot in to clubs

I also think the AFL wouldn't want to get rid of the side because of the area it's based in.

Whilst there may be many good reasons for the continued funding of the Dogs I am far from convinced regarding this one.

The AFL didnt swallow this line of reason re Waverley and there are no clubs based in the broad expanse east of Hawthorn so why the West is vital I am not so sure.

It's also close to North Melbourne.

I dont have them handy. I can find them.

The 2006 Sydney figure was around 750,000 (they were in that one too)...

I will get back to you later, its late and I have an early flight to catch. But I'm not hiding any numbers or selectively editing... Sydney people watch sport when they are in it, apparently more on TV than at the venue.... or maybe it was because they played North - not much glamour ....

Yes. Smart arse comment aside, your figures do seem to back that up. Your figures also point out that the average Sydney supporter is without a doubt the most fickle supporter that has ever existed.

I'd be interested to see what the 1999 TV ratings were.

Add something productive or piss off you pelican.:thumbsu:

I did. You passed it off because it doesn't suit your world view of ignorance.

When you decide to contribute something constructive to any thread, then can you let us all know - maybe start a new thread to celebrate it. Who knows, maybe one day you'll post something that doesn't get comprehensively pwned.

Then your not a real AFL fan.

LOL. What, so you watch all eight games in full every round do you?

Over here, we get three full games a round. North tends to be shown every second weekend. I'll watch interesting games, but I'm not going to sit through some Sydney - Freo drudgery, or meaningless late season clash between two bottom sides that has ni impact on the finals, just because its footy.

If only all Sydney fans had an ounce of your dedication to the game and you might be able to get 20k to a final.

Or if they played a side worth watching that had any of their own supporters turn up ...

Gotta love the irrational attitude to North.

When we got 25k to a final against an interstate side in Melbourne, it was our fault.

When we were the interstate side at a final in Sydney, its our fault too.

Either the home team is primarily responsible for drawing the vast majority of the crowd (logical) or it isn't.

And I suggest North is a side Hawthorn supporters would do well to watch. You might figure out how to beat us with any regularity then.

Little off subject but something that this thread has got me thinking about.

Which two teams would bring the biggest viewing audience for a Grand Final?

WCE v Coll
Bris v Syd
Syd v Coll
Coll v Ess/Carl/Tigers (all Vic)

Or some other mixture?

syd v coll - the AFL's ultimate wet dream...

A possibility this year is St Kilda -v- Footscray. It almost happened in 1997. That game would outrate any other combination - the battle of the underdogs. A promoter's dream.

But not nationwide and thats what matters with the TV monies/sponsership deals that come to the clubs because of the massive exposure The flow on effect from TV being the biggest source of funds the AFL/Clubs recieve now.

Brisbane v Sydney or Collingwood v Sydney for mine would draw the biggest ratings around the country.

Re: Economic downturn will sink book in to clubs

Yes, but its taken you guys 12 years to get there. Good on you too, but to demand other clubs do the same in 12 months like some here door is a bit much.

Its all about the trend. For mine, North are trending in the right direction: towards sustainability. Footscray are treading water, while Melbourne are really depp in it.

How could you possibly say North Melbourne are in a better position than us? Yes you made a bigger profit this year, but if our shorts sponsor had have come through with the $390,000 they owed us you wouldnt have. Also you guys had a highly inflated membership due to neutral and other clubs supporters buying memberships and as it can be seen now, probably wont resign seeing that you are well behind in membership now.

Also, we have far far more assets than you guys, i tried to find the figures from the herald sun a couple weeks ago but couldnt.

Permission has been given to the Edgewater hotel project, which when built wll bring in annual profits of approx. $1million dollars (and will not cost us a cent).

Facilities wise ours are almost finished, and the business and leasing moneys we will bring in is expeced to be between $500,000 and $1million. Where as yours hasnt even been started, and well might not even happen, it has been announced on multiple occassions before (previously building didnt start because someone forgot to test the soil, and the results when found meant a great increase in cost).

Its kinda funny, getting membership control is a big deal, yet every other victorian club not only has it but has for decades.

What is one way North are in a better position than us?

Why did you sign such a dud sponsor? You got less from the tortilla kings than we got from ours. You take more off the AFL than us as well.

The reasons for the membership drag have been addressed many times. We'll get 32k this year, which you'd be aiming for too.

Invisible assets.

Good on you, screwing blood money out of your own community.

First sod turned next month.

Better list, better head to head than you, culture of success, take less off the AFL, not reliant on pokie money. And don't wear sickening mock up of British flag colours.

Good point. On the other hand, on a nationwide basis Sydney -v- C'wood or B'bane -v- C'wood might improve ratings in either of Sydney or Brisbane but the sentimental clash would improve ratings everywhere.

Not wanting to get into a giant sh*t fight over these things, however I would suggest that the Western Bulldogs should be one of the last teams to be pointing the inflated memberships finger.

What is one way North are in a better position than us?

The fact that we made a profit without the gifted draw that the dogs have been getting for the last few years?

Who gets the bigger cheque from the AFL?

One way I would say the Dogs are better at North is PR.

North continually gets linked with folding/relocating when there is clearly another Melbourne club in the queue in front of them.

One area they could improve in.

Agreed, though is something we are working hard on.

The only two clubs who list both their match day members and other categories of membership are Richmond and the Bulldogs.

Gifted draw:eek: What do you call playing away in every State like we did last year then?

Why cant we point out inflated membership figures? and if anyone says the pet membership thing, that isnt actually counted in our membership.

Gifted draw? played in every state last year.

And sweet left foot.
Yes, we will make money out of pokies, but nearly every club does, and ths plan is introducing no new pokies to the area, just relocating them, you cant be crtically of us for moving pokies when collingwood and hawthorn have tried to introduce new pokies to the wesern suburbs. And unlike north, who got a few new short term income streams, we have at the soon to be finished whitten oval and the future edgewater facility two good long term income streams which between them will nullify the need for the CBF.

Also, getting dudded out of the sponsorship money from ezybonds was out of our control, they couldnt afford to pay a long term deal because they have gone broke because of a WORLD economic crisis.

Oh and better list? funny, we came third and challenged geelong in the prelim.

There is a reason north are under more media pressure than us, you guys havent got any new long term income streams, and the AFL in the past have mentioned that they prefer our bussiness plan to melbournes and yours and are more committed to supporting us.
