Eddie McGuire makes on-air gaffe about Adam Goodes and King Kong

The world does not revolve around you.
I was driving down the main road in Wangaratta last year, had my 5 year old daughter in the car with me, anyway there was this Italian man unloading horse manure from his ute (they bag it up and leave it out the front of their property and charge $2 per bag), anyway this guy had no shirt on and he was hairy as all fk, my daughter said 'Daddy Daddy, i just saw a Gorilla', now this dude had darker skin than Goodes, is my daughter a racist?

Kids call it how they see it sometimes, Goodes should be smart enough to know that.

I'm a Pies supporter and I think he's a fantastic president. I think if there's one thing we can learn from the past week its that it doesn't often matter if he is racist, or what his intentions are. The end result from his words was the same regardless.

Whether he meant it or not, his words caused people a lot of hurt. Even Eddie has acknowledged this. Given the timeliness of his comments and the platform on which he made then, the public reaction is appropriate.

I disagree completely. Maybe his timing was less than stellar, but Goodes literally looks like a Gorrilla. Nothing to do with his race. He's what, 6'4? Built like a treecutter and has a thick, black beard. **** apologising for that. I'm all for people getting upset when racism involved but with things like this people get too ****ing touchy.

Half of you in this topic are acting like complete soft ***** too. Man up, grow a pair. It's not like Eddie said "Adam Goodes is an ape, let's lynch him because he's aboriginal," now THAT's a story. This? This is an excuse for the Eddie haters to get their panties in a bunch... And yes, I say panties and not boxers because you're all acting like a bunch of girls.

I'd rather see Eddie take a step back from some of his media commitments, if he is suffering from exhaustion which has resulted in this gaffe then clearly the sensible thing to do is re-assess your commitments and take a break from some of them.

Erm, I was replying to a post claiming that a lot of the dislike of Harry O is grounded in racism, which made me realise that even though I dislike Harry O, I never once thought "Oh gee...Harry O is black!" or anything to do with his skin colour, and is definitely nothing to do with why I dislike him and I imagine/hope others are in pretty much the same boat.

It's pretty simple, no need to over-react. People getting hysterical is why this thing with Eddie has turned into the media circus it has.

This is the post. http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threa...s-and-king-kong.1009298/page-74#post-28472008

You said:

, I don't even think about what colour he is

Why is colour even an issue? Why even say that? You bring it up? Person you replied was talking about racism.

He is Brazilian by the way. That overrides anything about his tone of skin.

Do you have issues with people who spent too much or not enough time in the sun?

Yeh, sorry. Perhaps I should've walked across a bridge with you and worn a badge or something, then I could take the moral high ground and pat myself on the back for the changes I've made for Aboriginal Australia. o_O

Cos that's exactly what I've done by pointing out the huge generalisation you made for an entire race.

"I saw a kid in the Kimberleys who didn't seem phased by Kevin Rudd saying sorry, so therefore Adam Goodes shouldn't be upset about racial slurs!"

You're a brilliant person.

Oh dear. What is it with you blokes that you think you can just insist and demand the meaning of others words. No. Sorry. I know exactly what my point was ... after all, I am the one who made it. Looks like your "shoe-walking" abilities aren't so flash after all.

You were acting superior to people whose backgrounds you know nothing about. Claiming they are ignorant and don't know how to "walk in another's shoes", while you are not ignorant (let's say knowledgeable) and do know how to walk in another's shoes.

The meaning was all prefaced by the initial question - What about those who scoff and use the term "political correctness" but aren't deflecting their own mistakes or prejudices? Are they also ignorant fools who will never be able to walk in another's shoes?

Meaning what if there is a world where people don't agree with you, but you don't, in reality, hold any air of superiority in your thinking. I then went on to ask you a number of questions to demonstrate the potential range of experience of those of whom you make your claims. You see, the world is far more dynamic than "if you don't agree with me you're ignorant and your thinking is inferior".

You've embarrassed no one but yourself.

Whilst it took me a while to read through your absolute rubbish, at the end I would just suggest you go back and remove your head from your obviously ignorant arse and re read the posts
Never once have I claimed myself superior in any way, simply said that those who don't find these remarks hurtful such as yourself, should look at them from from the point of view of those who do find them hurtful, instead of whining about the world drowning in political correctness
If you don't want to stop and think about this then simply don't
After reading your babble, I wouldn't expect you to

You taught her well. Your 5 y.o thinks a person is a gorilla. You must have been proud.

*Post ignorant comment about racism. Complain that it's PC gone mad to cloak your inherent racism.

*Receive Like from DogDays.

*Feel vindicated by fellow moron and continue to display ignorance.

*Explain that white fella can also be big and hairy, over and over while continuing to miss the point entirely.

* Go into left-wing hysteria. Label everyone who doesn't completely agree with you as a closet racist.

* Receive likes from Kynge of Begrem and Glacier

* Feel vindicated by support of fellow PC zealots and continue to display tunnel vision.

* Explain that your view on the situation is only correct one and anyone who tries to look at it differently is automatically an uneducated bigot.

DogDays likes this.

I'm beginning to think you're just trolling Roby, no one would go that overboard in their analysis and I shouldn't even need to explain the meaning of my post, even if it isn't admittedly well worded.

Good work adding some much needed sexism to the argument.:thumbsu:

Yes, what other reason would you call a black person a monkey for?

A well used turn of phrase perhaps. In another "my offense is the baseline of reality" event, Akermanis made the comment "if you pay peanuts you get monkeys". Unfortunately for him, the radio management were Indigenous and in another master stroke for Australian race relations, Aker was dragged over the coals and forced to apologise for his "racist slur".

Compare this by Rendell

"I said as a throwaway line, as a ridiculous line, you might find we only recruit players with one white parent if it's not addressed now," Rendell told the Nine Network's Footy Classified.
"... I've never had a policy like that in my life. I wouldn't have a policy like that, it's ridiculous, silly. Everyone's the same.

To Mcguire's explanation.

At a press conference, McGuire "unreservedly" apologised for "hurt caused" by the comments, publicly apologised to Goodes and said he had phoned the Swans champion to express his regret directly.
The Collingwood AFL club president said he wouldn't resign over the "two-second slip of the tongue" and denied "racially vilifying anybody".
"Every part of my being is about equality,'' McGuire said. "It burns me to the core that I would be associated with vilifying.''

Uh oh, we've got a double threat here guys. You're going to leave many in this thread gnashing their teeth in anger and confusion at how to deal with you.

How can they continue to pat themselves on the back for being so righteous and neo-politically-correct when you're in the room?

You're ruining the thread, and I think you should leave.
Oh and I am from immigrant parents (true) .....forgot that bit;)

You taught her well. Your 5 y.o thinks a person is a gorilla. You must have been proud.
Should i have taken her to the police station? damn, 5 yr olds should know better!!

Should Goodes be offended if a baby says he looks like an Ape as well should he? you clearly don't have children, lets prey it stays that way.
